The marketing staff and all the promotional material paint a very pretty picture of life at Carolina Village. The reality is something very different and very disappointing. Anything you are promised during the sales pitch, be sure to get it in writing even if it has to be an addendum to the Occupancy Agreement. We didn’t and we lived to regret it when Carolina Village reneged on an option that exposed us to daily invasions of our privacy. We lived at the Village for 10 months but realized within 4 months that we had made the biggest mistake of our lives by believing the hype and propaganda. We would have left earlier but Carolina Village management strung us along for several months and then we had to give a 120-day notice before we could leave. No one at Carolina Village would correct the problem. Because they get such a large sum of your money on entrance (and have the 120-day notice policy) they act like they have you in a trap and you just have to accept their decisions no matter how unfair. The food is bad and getting worse – everything is greasy and over cooked. We noticed a further decline in quality over the time we lived there. Promises made do not come true and options disappear after you buy in. Carolina Village is like a corporate dictatorship that has outgrown and compromised its efficiency and quality standards. It is such a relief to be free of the huge costs and unfair treatment that comes with life at Carolina Village.

My mother-in-law was at Carolina Village. If you're very mobile, there are all kinds of interest groups. They have a gym, a woodworking facility, a pool, and all kinds of physical therapy activities. It was a very lovely place. They had a chef, and the food was prepared. They had individual selections. The food was very good and plentiful. They have walking trails, trees, and a pond. It was very nice, pretty, and serene. The staff was very caring. They knew each client who lived there by name. They had someone come in to help clean the apartment every two weeks. She had to put a large sum down when she moved in, and then monthly. She could afford it, but not everyone can afford it.

The room that I was interested in at Carolina Village was very open and had lots of windows. I was very pleased with the openness and the airiness of the rooms. It didn't feel like you were closed in. The staff were all friendly and helpful. I was very pleased with the ones that I met. They have a nice exercise area, and you can go there two or three times a week, or whenever you want. They have someone there who would help you out if you needed help. If you wish to, they take you on bus trips to different areas. They have other activities going on all the time that you can sign up for if you wish to. I have a friend who lives there and she says her food is excellent.

Carolina Village was a good facility. The rooms were immaculate. Everything about it was good. It's just the price is a little more than I could afford. They have a walking trail that they can get out and walk on. They have a group room where they do group activities if it's bad weather or something. The staff members were nice people.

We were impressed with Carolina Village. The lady who showed us around was very knowledgeable and very accommodating. We saw some cottages, but unfortunately, none were available. They even had a doggie psychiatrist that would talk to our dog. That impressed me, the doggie psychiatrist. The staff was very informative, very straightforward, and knowledgeable. She had a good rapport with seniors. We were very impressed with the Carolina Village, and Hendersonville was a town that is on our acceptable list. My wife was born there. The place is mostly new, so it's pretty good. They had tray ceilings which increase the high ceilings of the main living rooms.

This operation continues to decline. The monthly fees are tremendously high for the value. Communication from staff to residents and families is poor. Try to get someone to call you back. Worst, is the internal communications among the staff with different med center staff providing different care for a patient. No confidence that anyone is reading and recording in charts. While there are caring staff members, there are a good number of lightly trained staff with poor attitudes who are bothered by residents' request for care. The new apartments and cottages are poorly constructed. Windows leak outside air, door frames are not straight, doors do not close properly, you can slide packages under some of the doors which are out of alignment leaving large gaps under the doors. Maybe this is why there are so many ants. There is no heat or air conditioning in the bathrooms, it takes 5 -10 minutes to get hot water to the faucets. These units are also undersized from the original contract drawings future residents received when purchasing the units. Understanding COVID is a staffing issue, there is no reason for residents to be charged more for fewer services - for example meals and meal deliveries. Meal quality has also declined steadily in the last 3 years.
