I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

I would not recommend Ashton Senior Living. When dad first got there, he was only there less than 24 hours and he fell. He ended up with three brain bleeds. They did not transport him to the hospital. My brother and I had to transport him ourselves. There was no type of report. They could never tell us what happened to him. He fell three different times and no one could ever tell us what happened. He is in a wheelchair, so we're not sure. No video. No report. Nothing. The food was awful. My dad was always hungry. I took him to lunch every day because it was just pitiful what they were feeding them. The facility was not clean. I would go there every single day. My brother would go every other day and there had been several nights where they only had one person to put 30 people in the bed. He was supposed to get showers three times a week. We're not even sure he was getting it once a week. So we made sure, ourselves, that he was showered at least three times a week. We had to do it because they never did. It was terrible and that was probably the worst experience. My grandparents were both in assisted living and memory care and I've never experienced this before. The overall facility was dirty. We made sure that we cleaned our dad's room and made sure the sheets were changed. Again, we were there every day until we could get him somewhere else. That's the only thing we could do. No one would ever return phone calls and when we would send emails, nobody would respond. He always had bruises. He has been at the other facility right now, he is going on his fifth week, and he has had none of that. All the bruises have cleared up and the sores. He looked like he was put into a battle zone when he was at Ashton Senior Living and nobody could ever tell us what was wrong with him. It was very frustrating. There was a gentleman that moved in across the hall from my dad and he wasn't even there for two weeks and they took him back home. It was terrible. I think the assisted living part was better, but in the memory care, they had those people on the second floor and they're usually all asleep in their wheelchairs. It got to where my dad was sleeping a lot. Once we got him in a different place, he never sleeps. We used to think that it was part of dementia, but since he is where he is now, it's nothing like that anymore.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

When we got to Ashton Senior Living, it seemed like the perfect fit. It was in Gainesville and in the middle of where everybody is. They have very nice rooms. You could take your own furniture. They have home-cooked meals. The nursing staff is excellent, too. The facility looks like a big old home. They have couches and it is just very comfortable and smells phenomenal. It is so clean. The dining room is very nice. They got a big piano in there where people come in and play. The security is awesome. On the first floor, they have those residents that can come in and out and are kind of on their own. Where my mom is, up on the third floor in the memory care, is very nice. They have a huge TV room with comfortable chairs all around. Their meals are just like the ones downstairs and we got to fix her room up. The elevator is locked. So, they can't just walk up and push the button and go down. I wish they serve fried chicken every day though (as she loves fried chicken), but she's gained weight since she's been there and she looks a thousand times better than she did when I took her in. I've seen them playing cards around the table as well as bingo, but Mom doesn't want to do any activities. She just wants to watch her TV and sit there, but they are having a man from Duke University come and assist people in their stage of dementia to see exactly what kind of activities would benefit them. He's going to talk to each resident and I've signed up Mom for him to talk to her and he's just going to read about what would be the best activities for them to do. It's beautiful there. The place is always clean and mom is always clean. There's no smell. I've seen the nurses interact with the residents and they do it with kindness and patience that I would not have. They have a tough job and one of the ladies that's on the floor where mom is has been there for 18 years and you would never know that she had been there that long with the attention that she gives the residents.

I visited this facility

We toured Ashton Senior Living and we liked the price and their commitment to the community for as many years as they've been in business. The room we saw was a very clean and freshly well-kept place. It's a conjoined room. They have puzzle contests, church on Sundays, a crochet club, and a whole bunch of things. They have an activities director that gives them things to do daily. The staff was very kind and attentive. They have an open-door policy. They were very willing to answer any questions that we have.

I visited this facility

I went to Ashton Senior Living early on in my search and briefly. I just saw some rooms that were really good too. I think that was a year a half ago. They seemed very pleasant and caring. I saw one room and it was neat and tidy. It looked like they have a pretty good amount of activities. The menu looked good. The facility looked nice for me to consider so I told my dad about it. It appeared to be really clean. Sometimes these facilities sort of like have a smell to them, this one didn't.

My mother was a resident of Ashton for four years and we were so happy we chose Ashton. The staff was so compassionate, respectful and caring. They truly loved my mom and you could tell by their interactions with her. The food was delicious and attractively plated. She loved participating in all the activities-especially the fall festival they held. Games, painting classes, harp player, bands, parties/events, guest speakers, exercise classes, etc. kept her busy and engaged. The in-house therapy services were a Godsend as she didn't have to be sent out for therapy services. I am so glad she spent her last years at Ashton-she was so happy there.

I visited this facility

Ashton Senior Living in Gainesville is brand-new and looked very nice. I was shown a very spacious room that was well-built, and they had enough staff too. The staff who assisted me was very good, helpful and friendly. The dining area was okay, nothing to scream about it, it was just average.

The staff at Ashton Senior Living - Gainesville was fine. They had a large lobby area and some cottages that they started putting up, which were a little separate from the main building. They were exceptional. I would not hesitate to have my brother go there.

Provider Response

Thank you Kathleen! Our independent living cottages are the only private duplexes with assisted living amenities in the area. They are upscale, spacious, and elegant. If you are interested in seeing one of our cottages please call to schedule a tour! We also offer assisted living and memory care!

My mother stayed at Ashton Senior Living – Gainesville for two months. It was very nice and I was pleased with it. They seem to have good meals. The staff was good and I was happy with them. My mom's room was a 1-bedroom with no kitchen or microwave. They had exercise in the morning, Bible study and Bingo in the afternoons. It seemed like they had something to do all the time. They had an exercise room and craft room with puzzles.

I am/was a resident of this facility

Ashton Senior Living is fantastic. The people are very friendly and helpful, and the place is absolutely beautiful. I also like the location and the food is good. I'm in independent living, but they keep an eye on me and offer assistance because I'm afraid of falling. They have activities that I enjoy.

The staff at Ashton Senior Living - Gainesville was not professional and they didn’t want you asking questions. The room was like a hotel room. It was beautiful when you walked in the door, but it was not a place we would want to put a family member in. The quality of their staff was very poor.

I visited this facility

Ashton Senior Living – Gainesville was expensive. It's a brand-new facility and everything looked good. The rooms and furniture were nice. I was very impressed. The only negative was the staff, because they didn't have registered nurses, and they only use MAs and CNAs. The owner who assisted me during the tour was very pleasant and knowledgeable. The dining area looked clean.

Ashton Senior Living was amazing. This was the best place. I talked to the owner of the place, and he was the one who took me on the tour. I loved how the rooms were divided from the sleeping area, so it actually looked like a little apartment. They serve 3 meals a day plus snacks. My mom would either be here or the place in Seneca, if I can afford it. The staff was amazing. They were very personable. They took the time to talk to me and to ask about my mom or say something to her. They took the time to try to communicate with her. It is one of the best places.

I visited this facility

Ashton Senior Living is a fairly new facility, but the rooms are extremely small. It was assisted living only. They showed us their biggest room for assisted living, and it was OK for one person, but it would not come near satisfying our needs. The location was OK, and they didn't seem to have much grounds. It was in a very tight neighborhood.
