I went to look at The Merion. It was nice, as well as the woman who showed it to me, but it was too expensive for me. The place was beautiful, it had a pool, and I liked the place where it's at. It's a beautiful neighborhood. I didn't want to pay that much money for it, and I didn't want to move to the suburbs. The staff member who gave me the tour was wonderful, she was very accommodating, she called me several times, and she's very nice. It's a gorgeous facility.

If I had to move today, it would be The Merion. If I had to move a year from now, it would be The Merion. lf you need a caregiver, they will find someone for you. The staff was so friendly and so cheerful. I love the energy there. The residents were getting ready for a play and getting ready for lunch, so people were kind of walking around, talking, and laughing. My husband and I've been to the Evanston Symphony Orchestra and they play there on a Friday and it's always crowded. The people there are alert as one can be. One particular room was exactly what my husband and I will have. When we walked in, we knew that it was a great room. It was a two-bedroom, almost full kitchen, a little dining room, and a living room, but it was on the second floor. The dining area was large and lovely. We just stood at the door and they showed us the menu. It was well lit and well illuminated. It looked friendly and accepting. They are on a city block, so they take up the whole area where they are. There are some trees here and there, and large sidewalks. They have a nice terrace where you can sit out, and there are pretty plants, a lot of planters, and things, but I haven't gone to the back of the building. There's minimal greenery because it's a city. They have a library, a workout room, and a little pool. They have happy hour. They have people who actually perform. They have a daily bus and you make reservations where you need to go. The only thing is that parking your car is about a block and a half down. It's a good-sized block down and you have to cross another street. I have all positives to say about The Merion. We definitely intend to move there when the time is right. My husband knows two people over there, or at least one person, and I met another one that we know through church and they rave about the food. They have daily cleaning if you prefer, or they have once a week cleaning and that's all part of your rental. The facility was well kept, very bright, and cheerful. I understand that they're going to start changing some furniture in the reception hall. The owner is kept up-to-date and informed, and he comes over and checks things out. Caroline, the sales counselor, introduced us and took us around twice, and she's fantastic. She's very honest and sincere. We liked being with her.

I liked the tour at The Merion. They were very professional. My concern is maybe it's more expensive than I could afford, but the facility seems fine. It seemed like they had everything, which is good. They have a gym and a library of some sort. The rooms I saw were on the small side, but for me it was fine. They charge a lot, and I think they're expensive. I didn't shop around other facilities so I can't compare. You get a stipend, and you could use it for breakfast, lunch, or dinner. I've tried the food, and it was pretty good. The staff that I met all seemed professional and decent.

I would first like to say The Merion is a beautiful building. Some of the residents are wonderful and some need not to be there for it to be a independent living community. However, most of the staff is nice, pleasant, and kind. The manager should pay more attention to the residents needs as well as those who shouldn't be in this particular setting. The staff I met in the Wellness Center, let's just say a few are wonderful and kind to my loved one but the supervisor and a few others have really unpleasant mannerisms. They have a tendency to treat my aunt with intimidation when my family or myself isn't around but we are aware. If I recall that's a form of abuse because she shouldn't have to be afraid to leave her apartment because the staff has to find her for things. This is suppose to be her home and she should feel safe at all times without feeling frightened and intimidated. If it continues and nothing gets resolved, we have no choice but to take further action with these employees. Otherwise and overall, the food is fabulous and for the wonderful, kind, compassionate, and caring staff thank you for your kindness and being there for my aunt. Tracy

The Merion was at the top of my list. I met the sales person. He was very friendly, very open, and answered all of my questions. He was not a hard sell at all. The apartments were a little disappointing, though. The older building was less expensive but you're also paying for a furnished apartment. The new section was very modern, which I really liked, but it was a little bit more expensive. For the meals, they surpassed the other community. The food was excellent. Also you can eat at any of one of their restaurants, which all serve something different. They have a piano or a bar lounge, which is open to the public. They allow them to come in and enjoy meals, drinks, and music. It is more open, so it's a big plus.

The Merion was a nice, newer, open, and newer building with elevators. The staff was friendly. The dining area was fine. I liked that I can eat with some people. It looked very clean and fresh.
