I visited this facility

The tour I had with NewBridge on the Charles was excellent and the community was vibrant. It's a fairly large community. It had nice exercise and swimming facilities. We did not eat there, but we saw the dining rooms and they were very nice. The maintenance was excellent. Two people met with us, and they were both very knowledgeable, had good listening skills, and were responsive to our questions.

should be ashamed

I am/was a resident of this facility

My mother was in the rehabilitation facility of New bridge on the charles & from the minute we stepped in the facility you could hear patients yelling out from there rooms for help & the nurses standing around the nurses station wouldnt go in & help. My mother suffers from incontanance,so she cant hold her urine which causes her to soil all over herself which eats away at her dignity. The nurses wouldnt respond to her ringing the nurses button constantly & finally she tried to get up & fell flat on her face. She was then rushed back to the hospital for a broken nose & also to make sure she didnt rebreak anything from the hip surgery she just had a week prior.I would stay far away from this facility unless you want to worry about your loved one. This is the worst facility shes ever been in. I would do your diligent research

My late wife and I moved into NewBridge in August 2010. She was Jewish and I was a (lapsed) Christian. I have always felt loved and respected by the whole Community, and have been able both to contribute to and experience the excellent group of Independent Living residents. Rooms excellent and roomy. Staff are caring, especially in this difficult time of lockdown during Covid19. Zoom is at the moment the main group activity. Previously there have been many fine programs presented in the large Great Meadow Hall.

If you want your loved one to languish in loneliness, this is the place for them! Although the employees are capable of speaking English, they choose niot to iengage in English with residents -- leaving them without conversations. I saw a woman's buzzer repeatedly disconnected because the nurse didn' want to keep helping her. It was sickening. I saw patients ignored...not knowing about the "fun activities" because employees didn't want to take them. Whoever wrote the great reviews..it wasn't the patients. The good news is that the care improves the moment the family arrives. Love your loved one? Don't let then languish.

NewBridge on the Charles was very nice. I toured several others; this was the nicest one I've seen, and I liked it the best. Everything about it was nice. The rooms were well organized and in good condition.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

Our parent lived there for 3 years and while it was so expensive, at over $17K a month, it was so disappointing despite that huge sum we paid monthly. The care was mediocre and some staff had bad attitudes. This is a place where they offer abundant extra-curricular activities, but they do as little as possible with care and with medically-related services. They rely on the attractive decor and activities to sell the place, but once your loved one moves in, you soon find the hands-on care is not very good with lots of waiting to be helped, and staff taking breaks and even sitting where the elderly can't find them easily. There is no chance to enjoy a nice day if there is no family to wheel a patient outside, staff don't bother. It is not a good place for Parkinson's because the exercise options are limited and an online search will quickly confirm the fact that PT should be ongoing for Parkinson's, but it was refused after a short stint at the beginning (when parent could have still been moved out again without too much trauma). Once there a few months, PT was discontinued despite obvious gain while doing it and then decline when it was yanked. We also were not allowed to hire a private PT to bring on site so the parent just declined more and more. Two or three workouts a week with a fitness trainer didn't do it with a disease that requires ongoing PT. Loss of hearing was also blamed on the disease, come to find out the hearing aides had been damaged by water after months of discussions, requests, and trying to combat the dismissive attitude about the hearing issues. Very mediocre care overall. As a loving family member, it was hard watching it happen and hard to visit. Very, very disappointing. Do not recommend especially if your parent has dementia as the only good feature, activities, won't be very meaningful. Save your money and look elsewhere.

Had i written this review a week ago I would of given it 2 stars... at best....A week later it is a 5 star facility. My MIL was in an accident, had surgery and needed a rehab. I am familiar with avery manor, briarwood and the many others in the surrounding area. She arrived on a Sunday, That was part of the problem... weekend nurses and staff. I did not find the aids very friendly and I was concerned that the handling of her was a little rough. However, I spent the entire day there Monday and I met her Dr. PT, OT, Social worker and the other various support team. I found them all to be kind, knowledgable and caring. The nurses and aides (in particular Charles) are wonderful. Her social worker (gina) is always accessible to family. Since we are there every day for most of the day we have been happy with the care she is given. the place is incredibly clean, lots of social activities and many seating areas that family members can enjoy. Highly Recommended!!!!!

I am/was a resident of this facility

I applied to New Bridge on the Charles even if the building is not finished yet because I have heard such good things about it. I have been here for four years now. I am in the Health Center as I had a stroke, and I am paralyzed now. But I still do participate in activities; I am a member of the book club. They have a library that I borrow books from, and I am a member of the newsletter committee. I am also on the resident council committee. The food is not that great, but the one thing that you notice right away when you walk in here is that it didn’t smell like most of the nursing homes do. It’s one of the cleanest places I’ve ever been. The staff is very responsive; they always addresses your concern. Since I’ve been here I took a college course in Psychology, and I have taken classes at night. I’m on the Dedham Democratic Town Committee.

I was a rehab patient for only two wks. ( thank God) I awoke every morning in tears!! My day aid ( it was discovered by a night aid) he had me washing up in the same container as I used at night, for close to a wk.!!!! When told he said nothing!! If I didn't introduce him to visitors he come back & say " WHY didn't you introduce me?" An over night aid would come in & try to argue with me over the fact that supplies were very limited & their was only so much to go around!!! She stopped coming after I broke down crying. My physical therapist whom I rarely saw, ( it came to light later) had me doing exercises that were hurting me rather than helping. For two days there were no paper towels, I was drying my hands with Kleenex. The food was so bad that I lost six pounds in thos two wks. One night nurse came in & proceeded to tell me about her husband beating her. Your in a very vulnerable state & at there mercy. There were also some really good ones, nurse Dagmar, aids Rose, Rosemarie, Carlene, & physical therapist Belle, although I rarely saw her as well when I did she was just excellent!!!! Also, despite it being a new facility, they had the heat blasting which was understandable seeing as most patients were quite elderly, but the cold air blew rt. through those windows. So part of the room was cold & the other hot as hell.

I am a friend or relative of resident

I had high hopes that my family member's needs would be met. The grounds looked beautiful, activities were plentiful, etc. However, my relative has experienced very little attention, missing clothing time and again (nothing done about it), staff who don't talk with the residents, etc. I'm afraid that the staff don't seem to care. newbridge has proven to me that you can't simply throw money at the problem of taking care of elderly loved ones. The food is good, but 600 per day is an expensive meal. if you want your loved one to have attention, engagement, care, and more, you'd be better off spending the money elsewhere, sad to say.

The facility is very nice and it's big. It's beautiful, it's new, and there are a lot of things going on. Security is also superb, but public transportation there is limited although the facility provides a bus for the residents to their medical appointment and for shopping. I would totally recommend NewBridge on the Charles.

I am a friend or relative of resident

My mom is has been at New Bridge for around 20 months, and I can honestly say that I am very impressed with the amount of caring she receives. They go beyond my expectations to make my mom feel comfortable and important. When my mom fell and had to go to the hospital and then to their rehab floor for a few weeks, their whole staff- all her resident assistants, nurses, activity director and activity councilor, SW, and more, each individually came to visit her at the rehab. It was amazing how many staff cared enough about her that they took personal time to visit her- and all at different times. Rabbi Karen even visited her in the hospital. I could write an epic on her love, compassion and caring she has shown my mom and all the residents. When she returned to her own room, the staff was amazing. Someone came every hour to check on her and made sure she was comfortable and her every need was met. Her PT and OT have been helping her get back on her feet, We couldn't ask for a better team of caring professionals. Unfortunately now she has become very weak due to congestive heart failure, and just when I thought that the staff couldn't get any better, they are proving themselves to us once again. They are extremely responsive and they make sure someone sits with her everyday for a while. All I can say is their staff is wonderful and compassionate. They have their own in-house doctors and NP's and my mom's doctor and NP have been very caring and have been great keeping us informed on her condition. I would definitely recommend NBOC to anyone looking for a long term care facility for their loved ones. Did I mention everyone has their own room?

As I think about my mother's last moments of her life at Newbridge. I have nothing but anger because I think that her care was poor because they had no idea of what was wrong with my mother. The nurse on the night that she died gave her an overdose of medicine that wasn't prescribed. The doctor prescribed just 25mg and she was given 50mg because the nurse felt that she knew better well within minutes of my mother receiving this double dose she began to transition. Its been over a year and I'm still not at peace with the way that she passed. May she rest in peace

New Bridge on the Charles was recommended to me by a cousin. I went and see this place and it was the most beautiful place amongst the ones that I have seen. It looked very pleasant. It was also clean and new. It got a lot of open air and open space. They also have a lot of very good equipments. I like this facility very much. The woman who took us around and the waitress who waited on us were the extent of the staff that I saw, but what I saw was very nice. We had lunch there and it was very good. New Bridge on the Charles would be my first choice.

Aesthetically and in every other way, this facility, which offers a continuum from independent living to memory care and short-term rehab, is gorgeous beyond belief. While here, you feel like you're away on vacation"”with its wood setting, complete with a three-mile path for residents and visitors to use. The common areas inside are very beautiful, with unique artwork everywhere. There's a library, restaurant, a dining room that's like an upscale restaurant, a sitting room to read in and even resources such as eye doctors, geriatricians and other consultants on staff. The rooms in the assisted living portion are spacious apartments that include nice touches such as granite counter tops and bathrooms outfitted with many thoughtful safety features. The most expensive independent homes look like rustic cabins from the outside. The quality of the food served in the common dining room gets mixed reviews from the residents, but there are many options available daily. There is also a restaurant and pool onsite"”and scheduled outings are offered, with van transportation when needed. The whole philosophy of housing and care at New Bridge is geared to elders"”and there is a real drive to keep people as independent as possible for as long as possible. The staff is very involved and concerned about residents' safety and care, and the administrative staff really know the residents who live there. They also work well with agencies and families. In the few cases in which there was a problem with residents or family members, the staff showed compassion and flexibility in working out a solution. Anyone would love to live there, but a barrier for many is the expense--private pay, with an initial payment of $10,000 upfront.

This is a relatively new development of Hebrew SeniorLife, a big company in the Boston area with lots of facilities. It's a CCRC, but you don't have to live there to move into skilled nursing or assisted living. They also do a lot of rehab in the skilled nursing unit. I've had relatives at NewBridge, and I know some of the staff well. It's right off the highway, convenient by car. But it's not within walking distance to shops or businesses. It a big campus--162 acres--and you drive quite a long way before getting to the buildings. The building are a mix: cottages, an apartment building, another large building, and a Jewish day school (inter-generational programming is one of their goals). There's a strong Jewish content to everything there: food, atmosphere, programming, culture. The staff is very skilled in assisted living, very experienced, attentive, and caring. They have high quality programming. There's also lots of sharing of resources with the different levels of care. But I'd like to see a better staff-to-patient ratio in skilled nursing. Patients can wait a long time for help. I rate the assisted living a 4 but the skilled nursing just a 3. Food in assisted living is good, not great. And the activities put a lot of emphasis on inter-generational concerts, lectures, art exhibits...that kind of thing.
