I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My father was at Brookdale University Park Alabama. The room he got there was too small for him, and there was a time he couldn't get help when he needed something in his room. They just weren't quite as attentive, but they have more actual activities. They had parties, like a Mexican night and different things. My father is just not sociable enough, so it didn't really matter. They have more options for the amenities and the place is bigger.

My husband will be moving into Brookdale University Park Alabama. I liked that it didn't look like an institution. It looked like a resort. The staff was professional and courteous. The rooms looked like nice apartments. They had various areas for activities. It had a dedicated physical therapy room, a dedicated gym, and an area for television or theater. It had so many different dedicated areas for various social and medical activities that were just really, really impressive. They had a food menu of various things you could choose and an alternative to choose from, and that's one of the best things that I liked about it. They had private dining and common areas. It was not like you were putting somebody into a nursing home. It was like somebody was going to live in an apartment where there were activities. There was a planned activity calendar with various activities every day just for independent living. There would be games, crafts, going to restaurants, taking them to the grocery store, and taking them to doctors. They also had a little place, like a bistro, where you could go in and purchase coffee, a sandwich, a soup, or a Coke.

I went to Brookdale University Park Alabama. It was a very pleasant visit. I had lunch with an old friend who's living there. I also visited another older friend while I was there, and we had lunch. I liked the size of the rooms. It was a very nice place. I am considering living there in a few years. The staff was very informative and gave me a bunch of information to take home and look at and I have. I feel like I know what's there and it is something I will consider as a possibility. The food was excellent. It was not too much, which I liked as well. It was a reasonable portion, but not huge. The menu had eggplant parmesan, chicken marsala, and spaghetti. Based on my friend's recommendation, I got the spaghetti and it was very good. All of the rooms, as I understand it, have either a courtyard or a balcony. The room I looked at was on the second floor, so it had a balcony. The staff was very accommodating and informative. It's a good location.

We toured Brookdale University Park Alabama. It was excellent. My wife had a friend living there already. The woman in charge, Amy, did a wonderful job of explaining the cost and everything. So that was fine. The room she showed us was empty, but it was not the room that we would like. The living atmosphere was good. It was quite clean. The staff members were very helpful.

I was not that impressed with Brookdale University Park, because the assisted living where we would be, was like on the third or fourth floor. It was clean and nice, but it gave you a little bit of a cramped feeling, and the ceilings were low. The room that we saw was nice and kept up well. It was spacious enough and was laid out well. There was room for the residents to have their own furniture, and pretty much every one of them did. They were decorated to each person's taste, which is great, because you see lots of different things that way. It's an older building, but they were maintaining it well. The food looked very good. We were actually there around Memorial Day and they were doing barbecues.

I like Brookdale University Park Alabama. I like the person that took care of me and I like her professionalism. They are thorough with everything. They made sure that I understood what she was relaying about because I'm new to this field of how to care for my loved ones. She coached me through it to a level that I can understand. She explained to me the different parts of it and made me feel more at ease because I'm dealing with a precious diamond that I'm giving to them, which is my sister. Those mean a lot to me. Even though the price is kind of high, my family and I will try to work out something to get that done. Her safety and her security are my main thing, and just listening to the staff, secured me that my sister will be fine out there. For what my sister needs, the size of the room was perfect. There is a shower with a bathroom, and everything is accessible. They have some type of program where they can detect when a person has fallen. There are a lot of things they have that are up to date that got my attention. I was impressed with the facility. Some of their people were engaged and playing games with the residents, so they were keeping them involved in different things on one of the floors. I saw them out there engaging with them. I was impressed with that. The staff showed me the dining area and how they get to cook things. They also take them out to eat once a week anywhere they want to go. I thought that was great. The facility is well maintained. They keep it thoroughly clean.

I toured Brookdale University Park Alabama. The staff was very friendly. The residents seemed very happy, and the services seemed very good. I did not taste the food, but the menu looked good. Their breakfast was like scrambled eggs and bacon. Lunch was grilled chicken. The room sizes were good.

I visited Brookdale University Park Alabama. Amy, my tour guide, was very nice and very knowledgeable. She was just as helpful as she could be. She followed up with things. The residents seemed to like her very much. I really couldn't say enough good things about her. The residents there were very kind in letting us tour their apartments. I liked the facility, and I liked the location. It had a place where I could park my car. They had a nice library. Right at the moment, they were having a problem because they had some pipes that burst during that hard freeze that we had. So they were certainly tearing down to the basics to get it all repaired. I didn't see the facility at its best. But at the same time, I saw that they were keeping up with the maintenance. I wish they had more flower gardens or places where you could grow things.

The person I dealt with at Brookdale University Park was Angela. She was very thorough. They had a library and the rooms were nice. They had a little kitchenette off to the side of it there. They also had places for them to get their hair done, and she showed me that. I did get a brochure. The staff was good, she knew what she was talking about, and she was very friendly and asked questions very professionally. They take them on outings, but with the virus that has been curtailed.

Brookdale University Park was very nice; it was just expensive. The staff was great. They informed us, and they were lots of fun. The room was nice. It was a 2-bedroom, and that's what we're interested in. I would have chosen it, except for it's too far from my current community. I wanted to stay around this area. They had a media room. We saw the dining room. We saw a library and the physical therapy room. We saw other things too, but I can't remember because it's been a while. It was very nice, and everywhere we went was clean.

Brookdale University Park was a great facility. I just did not feel that it's right for my dad. It is over in a very affluent part of town, and I thought that the amenities and the general culture of that facility was not appropriate for a man who has worked at hard labor all his life as a steelworker. He just did not fit well in that environment to me. The staff was very kind and took a lot of time with my husband and me. She told us all about their programs and what was going on there. She took us on a tour and took us up on the memory unit. We kind of walked through there, saw the room where he would have been, and took us out into a garden area. Everything there was extremely nice, and she was very nice. It just wasn't what I was looking for my father. It is an extremely large community, so they had every kind of senior living there. When you drive in, you literally went through building after building to get back to the memory unit. It was almost driving through a large apartment complex. It was large and impersonal. I did not feel like he was gonna get as much individual attention there as he would get at the other place.

I like Brookdale University Park very much. I like the public relations director. She was wonderful. I went with another friend, and she made us very at home and I like that. They were very upfront about everything and about the pricing. We looked at several different room styles. I think it is a lovely place. There is one thing that holds me back and that is that the bathrooms. They are not modern at all, and they are not desirable. They don't have any vanities, they're not pretty, and they're just blah. I just really did not like the bathrooms. Other than that, I thought it's a lovely place.

Brookdale University Park is nice for people who have extreme memory loss and can't get around. They keep the place clean and the person in charge is very good. Everybody's really nice. I've only encountered one person that wasn't nice in the couple of months that my husband has been there, but other than that, it's a good place. The assisted living is also very nice, and my husband will be moving there. He will be able to go down to eat in the main dining room, and you get choices of food to eat, and the food there is very good. They take them out to eat every now and then. My husband participates in bingo, and they have activities even for people who need memory care. His room is great and very nice.

Brookdale was a very nice place. It was quite large, and seemed crowded, but it was nice enough. I talked to the tour guide, and she was informative enough, but It was really too large for us. They showed me the rooms, they were nice, some had more square footage than the others, but it was more expensive. They have a movie room, beauty salon, and a room for physical therapy, like an exercise room, and they have separate dining facilities. They were very accommodating.

The apartment that I saw at Brookdale University Park was nice, but a little bit small. It was a one-bedroom, and I would love to be in that apartment. I really liked the place. Whenever I am ready, that is where I want to go. Their activities were excellent and had almost everything you want to do. They play bridge every Sunday afternoon which I like and had a room for church services. They also bring people in to entertain or inform the residents. They only provide two meals a day, but it was good, and their chef had many years of experience which impressed me.

Brookdale University Park was our favorite. We liked the size and the setup of how everything was arranged inside and outside. It was very well thought out for seniors, and we really liked the apartment choices in the independent living. We liked the price, the size was fantastic, and the security guards and security cameras all over the property. It was immaculate and very clean, and the dining area was very nice.

My mother was a resident of Brookdale in 2015. At first everything look to be going fine.,One day me & my sisters showed up and found her sitting in her own waste and you could from the smell it had been on her a while. When she was feeling bad knowing she was a diabetic we asked for the nurse she never showed up to check her sugar. This started on a Thursday by that Monday night she was rushed to the hospital with a sugar level of 535 and blood pressure of 79/45. She had had mutiple strokes from that Thursdayto Mondaythat they didn't diagnose. My mother passed in June of 2015.

Overall, Brookdale University Park is a lovely, inviting facility. When you walk into the lobby, they have a living room, a library on either side, and a double staircase going up to the dining area. The people who work there are very fine. I think the security system is a plus. The place is big, and I don’t know if they inspect it enough. The food going into the assisted living area is brought from the kitchen to another floor across the building, so it’s not always that hot and the smell coming from that second kitchen is not so great. The assisted living is not what you would expect it to be because they can’t provide all the assistance; you have to be pretty much self-sufficient and just require minimum care. She was in independent living for a while and it was great. She had a great room with a full kitchen, and the dining room that the independent people go to is lovely with a high ceiling and lots of lighting, linens on the table, and carpets on the floor. If I get any services, like someone taking her in a limo to her doctor’s appointment or to the beauty salon, or if I get her rug shampooed, all of that is billed through one bill. They have a clinic where you could make an appointment to see a gerontologist, who comes every Monday, without having to leave the facility, so I thought that was a nice thing.

The apartments were immaculate and large at Brookdale. The staff was very friendly and warm. We didn’t see many activities happening. It was a little higher end and pricey due to it being a gated and guarded community, so it had added security.

Brookdale University Park is a beautiful, luxurious facility. It’s clean but way out of my price range. Everybody was very nice. They have a restaurant in the building with a chef, and your rent includes three meals a day. It’s just really top notch.

We had an excellent visit at Brookdale University. Their representative met with me and gave me a little tour of the facility. The people that I interacted with were really gracious and listened when I was questions. I was extremely impressed with the place. It's very upbeat but very quiet, as well. They have a lot of activities going on, and if I was going to move my aunt, I would choose this place. The room they showed me was very nice and quiet. It smelled good. It had a little kitchenette, and it was very pleasant. I did walk through the dining area, and it was very attractive and very nice as well.

They are also very efficient. The marketing people are also very good. My room is lovely, and I am very happy with it. The dining room is lovely, and the food is good. They have lots of activities. They have exercise, Tai-chi, crossword puzzles, and spelling bees. They have entertainment in the evening. They try to keep you busy.

It was very nice, but he chose one closer to his home. Everything was wonderful. The staff that I saw seemed very nice. The activity calendar looked good. They had different musicians come in to perform, different games, different gatherings for men and women, and outings. I did not get to eat there, but the plate looked like it was a well-rounded meal. I did notice that sometimes it took for them a while to get to the residents to see what they needed.

We saw Brookdale Place. It was absolutely gorgeous. That was, by far, my mother’s favorite choice of all the ones in our city. It was extremely clean, and the interior was very immaculate, very nice furnishings. The people were super nice. The dining room was very, very nice. If she went into a senior home, that is where she would love to go. The people that we toured with were caring, and they knew their stuff. It was a really good experience. I would highly recommend it.

I visited Brookdale Place several times. It was excellent. The staff members were impressive. Their credentials were excellent. Most of them had Master's Degrees in their specific field. Their dementia unit had a nurse that had a PhD. The facility's location was also convenient to get to. It was in the nicer sections of Birmingham. The apartments were very nice, with very reasonable rates. You could have a 3 bedroom apartment, which looked brand new even if it had been there for a while. The grounds were well-kept. The lobby and the entrance into the facility were very nice. They had a good number of computers. They had a lot more activities compared to the other facility where we may move my mom into. Brookdale had a better set up for the residents when they're coming and going. They had a separate area at the desk at all times. They had sitters on site. The food was wonderful. The dining room was very elegant. It also had linen table cloths, chandeliers and crystals. The facility also offered services like getting a resident's lunch to his or her room if he or she doesn't feel like coming to eat in the dining room. I would recommend this facility to anyone. In fact, I have already recommended it to other people.

We found a great facility in Birmingham; it's Brookdale Place. My father is doing real well. He's in the Clare Bridge Unit and he's doing really great. I helped him set up his room and got him situated. He's done much better and he's in better shape. My father didn't adjust very well during the first week, but I guess you would expect that. He was scared and he was mad. But he has settled down and after about 10 days he started doing really well and they started working with him. The staff was very kind, friendly, and helpful. The place is clean, and my mother feels comfortable going there to see him. However, the only thing that I found while I was up there was the first weekend we put him in, they seem to be short staffed and not exactly organized but that straightened up and there was a shortage of women. So I was a little worried. I've voiced my concerns, and since then I think things have been all right. The staff puts him in a wheelchair and wheels him outside every day which he loves. The view out of the window is beautiful, you can see the birds feeding, and trees, grass and flowers. He was enthralled with the place. He just love it! I couldn't imagine finding any better place to put your father. He gets lonely sometimes, and he was used to having my mother with him all the time. Other than that, I think he's just done amazingly well.

My experience in this nursing facility was great. They treated every person with care. Everybody that lives there looked happy to be there. The place was very clean and organized and the employees were very cooperative with me visiting the nursing facility. On my first visit, I was impressed with the warm, comfortable furnishing of the nursing home. My first visit was kind of difficult because I am not used to seeing that many old people in one place. But once again they all looked happy to be there so it was easy to get over it. There was always an employee helping someone that needs help. They most impressing thing was how almost every day the residents will meet up in the lobby and talk about life. That seemed to me like the place was giving them life again. The first aide my grandfather had was wonderful, intelligent and sensitive. But after we found out that he couldn't go home they found him a personal one.
