St. Paul's Senior Community

The staff who toured us at St. Paul's Senior Community was young and fairly new at what she was doing, but she was very nice. She was trying to be professional for her age and did everything she could with what she had. The rooms had a large hospital bed, a bathroom, a TV, a refrigerator, and a microwave. The place was a bit quiet and looked a bit vintage.

The amenities at St. Paul's Senior Community are really good. The staff is very helpful and caring, and they continue to be that way for my mom. She is in the skilled nursing part and they're really attentive to her and make sure she gets what she needs. Their communication with us is excellent. They have quite a few other facilities, but some of them are not open because of COVID. They have the rehab facility and the activity facility (where she's been able to play bingo a couple of times). They have an outside garden area (where they're able to go out and sit) and a cafeteria area. It's a nice facility.

I've been to St. Paul before and that's why I wanted my mom to go there. It was clean when I went there, and this was before COVID in 2018. The place was clean. The tenants were happy. I've been to other places where it's smelled really bad, but it looked like the maintenance was done. Even the landscape of the building like the grass is cut. It's just clean. The people were super friendly and very helpful. That was in the July or August 2018. St. Paul is my first choice. It was able to accommodate by putting the residents in a special place for Alzheimer's without moving them out of the facility. That's important because my mom had the beginning stages. If she lives 10 years, it could get worse and she might need different care. I'd rather her be in the same place. Then the other thing about this community (and it's a big one) is there is always a nurse there 24 hours a day. That's very important because I've been to some places where the nurse comes twice a week. My mom never stayed there, but I was visiting somebody else. It's a friend of the family. I was there for quite a long time, and I see how they take them to lunch. At that time, it looked like they took field trips. They had a bus for the ones that could go and wanted to go. They also had trained dogs. They're not just regular dogs. They were really well trained and well well-behaved. They would visit the old people that needed friends, so that looked good. The food looked really good. It was clean. The cafeteria where they eat lunch was clean. The staff was friendly. It was easy to get around in the place because they had signs on the walls. It's just easy to find where things were and how to get information. It was fairly priced.

I saw both the independent and assisted living of St. Paul's Senior Community. I had a very good experience with the place. I liked them, but I would say the independent living rooms were maybe a little small. However, they were doing upgrades and refurbishment on everything. The facility looked really good. The marketing guy spent a lot of time talking to me. I was also there years ago when my grandmother was there, and it's much improved now. It's got a new building, refurbished rooms, and beautiful trees in the surrounding area. I have no problems with the physical appearance. There were a couple of residents sitting outside the doors and each of them had different kinds of activities and so forth.

My parents are currently at St Paul's Senior Community for rehab and I've been happy with them. The building is beautiful. I think they keep the facility very clean and I feel like I've seen genuine care for my parents. I've been happy with the amount of physical and occupational therapy they receive and with the level of communication that the staff has with us. My mother does not like the food but my dad is OK with it. I've seen a lot of the meals that are served, and a lot of them looked decent, some better than others. I think it's hard to make something really spectacular when you're cooking in large volume. They have a gym that they go to work out in, which my parents have told me is really nice. Their suite is very nice too. I wish there was a little more entertainment or activities to keep them occupied because I think boredom is a big issue. It's very expensive but I'm assuming that it's probably about the same as the others. In skilled nursing facilities, you very much get what you pay for, so I would rather pay a lot to have them well cared for.

My wife is in St Paul's Home for rehab. They're pretty much short staffed, and some of them are not very good. It's clean, but the food doesn't taste good. Her room is small. They have a salon, but she has a beautician that does her hair. She's in the new section. They don't do much except bingo. It's more like an institution.

I don't know how they can possibly provide decent care if they treat residents like they conduct business. My dad has to stay in a psych ward where he does not belong through the entire weekend now because their admissions staff was too cowardly to tell us they would not accept him. They avoided our phone calls until Friday afternoon, when it was too late for us to make other arrangements.

I visited St Paul's Home, but did not choose it for Mom because she would have to share her bathroom. It was a good distance from her room, and she would not make it there by herself. They had Catholic masses, which I liked. I met one person, and he was not a friendly person. It's a newer wing, so it was clean and neat.

I visited a friend over at St Paul's. It's entirely too big. If and when I ever have to go some place, it's going to be smaller. It's nice, but it is just absolutely too big. It's one of the better places, but I really don't like it. It's too spread out. My friend is 90+, and she's still up and around. Her apartment is on the fourth or fifth floor which means every time she leaves her apartment, which is often, she has to take the elevator down to the first floor and then you have to walk so far when you get to the first floor to get to the dining room, and she doesn't complain. She uses a walker, but it would be entirely too spread out for me. I have several friends from church over there. We went in to play cards, and they were going to serve us food in the card room, but we decided to go through the line and pick up our salad and then pick up our other food. On the other side of the building, they have a nursing home which is completely separate from the independent living. She has a 1-bedroom apartment, and she likes it very much. It's a very nice place. They rebuilt, and a lot of it is new. We play cards every two weeks in a room where they have different activities. It had a long table and a buffet. We had to get out by 3:00 because my pastor from my church has a bible study over there. It was a nice large room. They use it for a lot of meetings and get-togethers. My friend likes the food very much. You could get fish or Sloppy Joe sandwiches, which didn't appeal to me, but it was OK. We paid $5 because she had to pay for the guest. They have entertainment, and there's something you can go to every day. The staff all seemed nice and friendly and talked to us.

My dad was in St. Paul’s until he passed away. The location was good, and it had just been renovated. I liked the building and everything. When my father went to the hospital, he lived in a rehab then moved to memory care in the same location. From there, he can go to nursing care or do assisted living. It was a huge facility, and I liked it. placed him in there because, I thought, if his condition got worst, he would go to a nursing home or if he got better, he could go to the assisted living. Unfortunately, that did not happen. The dining area was nice and open. I liked that the visitors are welcome. It was a big, open area and very clean. The staff was very good and very accommodating, including a physical therapist and social worker. The nurses were accommodating.

My uncle was in St. Paul’s for a month. It's a beautiful, brand-new facility, but it was very expensive. The staff was very good and cared about the patients.

My mother-in-law is in St. Paul indepedent living facilty in Belleville Il. Ajoining the independent living is an assisted living and Nursing Home. My mother-in law visited many facility's prior to this choice. The one thing that helped her make the decision on St. Pauls was the 'homey feeling". The apartment is set up to fulfill her needs, as she uses a walker. She is on ground floor and is able to have a patio(small) out of her bedroom. Moderately priced facility. Food is consistent, the dining room serves lunch and dinner, breakfast she is able to make in her fully equipped kitchen. In the independent living area their are approximately 65 tenants. She has been thier for 10 months and has grown to appreciate the convenience of the facility.
