I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My mother-in-law has moved into Holiday Whealdon Estates. It's very good. The community is very nice. The staff has been very attentive to her needs. Her room is very nice. They fix anything you need fixing the same day. The food is pretty good so far and the dining room area is set up like a five-star restaurant, so that's pretty impressive. The staff is very friendly, personable, and professional.

I toured Holiday Whealdon Estates. It was an older facility, but that's not a bad thing, that shows character, and it shows that it must be good to last all this time. The staff was extremely cordial, and helpful. I got to sit down with the residents at lunchtime. And that impressed me that I got to sit with the residents and talk with them. All of the residents were very satisfied and very happy, and I enjoyed my visit with them because I got to interact with the residents. The rooms were a bit smaller than the other place, but it still was nice. It had a built-in refrigerator and microwave in the room. They had many things. They had a movie theater area with movies, and what impressed me was they had a chapel. Different religions come in. I loved the staff, we just joked and laughed, and had a wonderful time.

Our tour at Holiday Whealdon Estates was nice, but the facility would not meet our needs. It's older and a little worn, and they only have one small elevator for three floors. I wouldn't know how they would evacuate the older people with walkers and wheelchairs and whatever with one small elevator. You have to carry your laundry somewhere down the hall to a laundry room. The staff was very nice, but the setup was not what we needed. We had lunch there and it was very nice and very tasty. The serving staff was very accommodating and very nice.

Provider Response

Sheila, thank you for taking a tour of our independent living community. We appreciate your feedback and do want to share that our staff is prepared with detailed emergency response plans. If you have any further comments, please email us.

Awesome facility and staff are amazing. My mom is so happy here. She loves that she doesn’t have to cook anymore. She enjoys three fantastic meals a day. She enjoys all the activities and making new friends. It’s like cruise ship on land! There is always something fun to do. Whealdon Estates was the perfect choice for her new home.

I am/was a resident of this facility

When I moved in a little over eight years ago, I had a chip on my shoulder. I didn't like it for about the first year, but gradually I came to see it as home. The residents & staff now feel like family & I also learned patience. I enjoy living here.

My aunt is in Holiday Whealdon Estates. The staff members are very caring, considerate, and ready to help you at any time you need any help. You could tell they love their clients. Her room is very spacious. She's got plenty of room to get around. The dining room is always clean. The food is healthy for the people. You're allowed to eat with them on occasions. You can pay $5 and you can have lunch with your loved ones, which is very nice. They're tearing out the concrete on the grounds and replacing it, so it can be a safer area because some of the concrete was breaking, and parking was a little bit tight. They're doing some reconstruction in there, and they've got beautiful flowers planted. There's a place out there for the residents to go outside and just enjoy the outdoors. They have a lot of activities for the residents to do. They do bingo and word games. They have somebody that can come and do their hair. They try to accommodate you for any needs that you would have. She doesn't participate in a lot, but when I'm there, I hear them making announcements that bingo will start at 2:00, and then they have art activities. They teach art there. The food is pretty good. I like everything that I've eaten there. Sometimes, she's not real fond of what they're serving, but they always give her options of something else. At dinnertime, she could either get a sandwich, or a salad, or cereal. She doesn't participate in a lot, but everytime I've been there, I've seen people participate, so obviously it has been pretty good for them. They offer contracts with other people as the need arises. If you need somebody to come and bathe you, you can add those things to it, but they contract out.

I liked everything about my tour of Holiday Whealdon Estates. It's close to my doctor's office and I love the staff. I had an opportunity to interact with the people who live there, and I had lunch with them. It was my birthday and they gave me a cake, it was nice. I just got a good feeling, I got to visit one of the client's apartments to see how it was decorated and I thought that would be my choice. They didn't have everything that the rest of the places had, but I liked it the best. They're in the process of renovating, and they told me about the things they're going to be adding. I'm very pleased with that community. It's also located close to restaurants that I visit often, so it's the perfect area.

Holiday Whealdon Estates was very clean and the apartments that we looked at were updated. The residents were friendly. When I spoke to one lady who's been there a couple of years, she said that she enjoyed it there and that the place was very good. They had nice windows that looked outside (so you got some good light in) and the bathroom was well laid out and had good storage. The staff we met was very nice, knowledgeable, friendly, and willing to talk with us and answer our questions. They had a hair salon, a clean dining area, and a washer and dryer at the end of each hallway that the residents could use and that they didn't charge extra for.

I went to Whealdon Estates, and it was a great tour. I had lunch with a couple that gave me some good feedback on the place. The reason why I wouldn't move in there is that I have a dog. I wanted to be on the ground floor and I wanted a two-bedroom, but they only had one available on the first floor. It would've been perfect except the backyard had a big drop-off, so they couldn't fence it in like they had all the other first-floor units. I would move there if they called me back and said we got another two-bedroom on the first floor with the fence. They had a pool room and a place to play dominoes and cards. I know they have two stationary bikes, but that was it for the gym, no weights or anything like that. As far as the administration goes, the director was awesome and very knowledgeable about how to get in quickly and had connections with the VA where I could call the VA number and just say, "Jessica told me to call you," and they knew who Jessica was. That was very helpful and they called me back. They were very helpful in guiding me on how the process takes place, and how to downsize and get moved in. They have two downsizing companies they use that specialize in that. They followed up a couple of times to see if I had any more questions. Even the receptionist called me one evening just to check and see if I had any more questions. When I called and said that I wasn't interested because there wasn't a room for me, they were very understanding and polite. I have no negative things to say about them. They were very knowledgeable in how to get me approved through the VA quickly and get moved in within a week. It would be a very nice, inexpensive place to stay if they had the room that I wanted. The room I looked at was a studio apartment and all it had was a sink and a mini refrigerator.

My brother has moved into Whealdon Estates. I just thought it had a good vibe to it. It wasn't smelly. It looked like it's a good location. It's clean and it's small. I like that part of it. The staff is very nice and very helpful. They have everything you can get. You can have somebody give you your medicine; you have to pay extra. You can pay extra and have your clothes washed. They have a laundromat on each floor, they have a beauty salon, and they have a restaurant. They give you choices in the restaurant; you have three choices at each meal. They decorate it nicely for the events, and they have a van that takes them to the doctor. It's very reasonable for the prices that are out there.

Whealdon Estates was friendly and family-oriented. The person who gave me the tour was knowledgeable and pleasant. The apartments were clean but were smaller, then they have movies, card games, a little exercise place, a game room, and a movie room. It's just a little bit older, but it's adequate.

My stepmom will be moving in to Whealdon Estates. We like that we were able to get a first-floor apartment with access to the outside because she has a dog that she's bringing with her. They are super pet friendly, so the dog can go outside and go to the bathroom, without her having to walk too far to take her out. The staff is great. We are leasing the model apartment. It's small, but it's very nice and they're willing to make accommodations in them. I feel like they need updating because they're older. They weren't my first choice, but they're the best choice for the situation that we need. They have three meals a day. They will wash your linens, your towels, and other stuff once-a-week when they clean your apartment. They are pet friendly, and that's a big amenity. They have a beauty salon on site, so that's good. They have activities for the people to do. The place needs updating. The apartment was better than a three, but the facility to me was a three.

I was very impressed with the facilities at Whealdon Estates. We spoke to some of the residents there and all of them were very, very happy and highly recommended the place. That was very good to hear. The staff was very knowledgeable. They showed us the different options as far as the rooms go. They were very helpful and they answered all of our questions. It's an independent living community. The apartments were very nice, they were laid out well. They had, I think, 3 different options. They had a studio, 1-bedroom, and a 2-bedroom. Some have patios and balconies and they were very nice. It was an older community. It's been there for years and years so it was nice but you could tell it's aged.

Whealdon Estates was nice and clean. I think they could have done a little more upkeep on the grounds. The property isn't updated. What I like best about it is that it's a friendly environment. I think the outside could be updated a little bit, as well as the inside. The staff was nice and professional. They have a salon, a gym, activity room, movie room, and laundry.

Whealdon Estates was nice, spacious, and clean. They also have caring staff members. They have a place where they can do the laundry, an entertainment center, and a nice open dining hall. They didn't go into detail about activities but they mainly just have bingo and movie nights, things like that. I don't know how big the rooms were but they were pretty nice sizes. It was comparable to most apartments as far as 1-bedroom apartments. That's what we were looking at and it was nice.

I had been to Whealdon Estates already, so I know how that place looked inside. It was nice, and I liked it. My relative is a resident there, and she has been placed in different rooms. I also went there to eat with her before Covid, and the food was delicious. The rooms were clean, well taken care of, and in good condition.

My sister is doing OK at Whealdon Estates. She has a little studio. The staff is friendly and helpful. Maintenance and cleanliness could be a little better. They don't have a maintenance man there right now, and there are a few things that need fixing, but nobody can fix them. Right now they're not doing much. They got the residents locked down. She gets meals from the facility, but the food is mediocre. It's not like home cooking of course.

The price at Whealdon Estates is what made me choose it. The employees were very friendly and very helpful. I thought the room was a good size for the price. It was pretty spacious. I didn't try the food. The dining room was designed pretty good. It was well lit. The place was clean. They have a gym and a salon. I don't think they have a pool. There's also a pool table. The staff members were very friendly and helpful.

Whealdon Estates was very nice. The people were very cordial and very helpful. I think I'm going to enjoy it there. They spent almost an hour with me, and they showed me the 2-bedroom apartment. They also had studio and 1-bedroom apartments, but I prefer more space. They had a nice dining area, the activities seemed fine, and they provide three meals a day. The facility was pretty well laid out.

My dad is now in Whealdon Estates. He has his own apartment, they serve him three meals a day, but he is responsible for everything else. He loves it. He has a studio apartment which fits his bed. He also has a sofa, a television, a desk, and a couple of dressers. It may not be new, but it is nice. They provide three meals a day. They have a good chef that fixes excellent food. I have eaten there several times and I haven't had anything that I didn't like. They have activities all throughout the day. They have movies every night. Then at about 7:00 or 8:00 the place shuts down and it is really quiet, so my dad likes it. Whealdon Estates is safe. My dad is starting to make some friends. They take him to the bank, and they take him to Walmart. It is a nice set up. The place is clean and it has a vibrant, active environment. Everybody is moving around. The residents are friendly and the staff members do a good job. They have a free washer and dryer for the residents. Whealdon Estates is affordable. My dad has some relatives that live very close to him. It has worked out really well. They have a big calendar on the wall that lists all of the activities that they have for the month. They also give each resident a smaller calendar that they can have in their rooms. They have live entertainment, bingo, arts and crafts, exercises, and movie nights

Whealdon Estates was excellent and away from the busy street, but it's also kind of in the middle of the city. The rooms were fine and spacious and most of them had a small balcony that you can go out on. They were very nice and very well maintained and they stressed the fact that they were able to modify like if we wanted a television on the wall in the bedroom, they'd be glad to do it. They would be willing to work with us to make it as comfortable in any way we wanted it possible. The rooms were bigger and you've got a full kitchen, a refrigerator, and a stove. It had everything in there. They also provided two or three meals a day. The food was good and the menu looked fine. You can order what you want. The staff was great. It's a Holiday retirement, which is a chain across the country. They've got lots of them all over and if we wanted to go somewhere else in other city, they could have a room free available for us to stay in and to visit. While you're there, you get free meals too. The facility was fine. It was old, but it was an open design, and I liked it. The rooms were a little bit bigger than I thought they were going to be.

My brother moved into Whealdon Estates. The amenities that they offer are so wonderful, and the people that run it are very caring, loving, and concerned. The workers and staff there are very friendly and accepted my brother. They had so many things to offer him. He has a studio apartment, it's a nice size, and it has a small kitchenette with a small refrigerator, cabinets, entryway closets, a very large closet for hanging clothes with shelving, and a small balcony. There's ample room for him. He's on the second floor, and they have a free laundry room near the elevator. They offer three meals a day in their dining room, and once a week there is housekeeping. They have various activities. On Friday afternoons during football season they have a tailgate party catered by the kitchen and everybody's encouraged to wear their team shirts. He has come to know many people, they also offer some religious things and have a rosary for the Catholic residents on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. They have a priest come in on Fridays and Saturdays to say mass and Eucharistic ministers distribute the Holy Communion. Outside of every resident's door is a calendar of the activities for the month with the time and place for each. They have entertainment in the lobby, or sometimes a 2-piece jazz band. They also have a big piano and the residents like to sit around the tables and sing old songs. They have an exercise facility, and a walkway around the building that's satisfactory. Each resident is required to wear the button around their neck that has GPS so they can tell where he is in case he's taking a walk and falls. The maintenance fellows they have are wonderful, they are very attentive, kind, and pleasant to deal with.

Whealdon Estates was very nice. I had lunch there. The first time I was there, a lady was singing in the meeting room, and the music was transferred to all the rooms. The rooms were very nice and had balconies. It was very inviting and had lots of activities. I met three people - one my age, one a little older and one younger - who were really happy and content there.

Whealdon Estates was absolutely horrible. I wouldn’t put a pet in there. They could improve on the staff and the appearance of the place. It’s very run down. The general manager told me if my dad fell, they couldn’t do anything to help him. The staff was hiding behind walls when you’d go into a room. I was not pleased at all.

Apartments are set up well, but getting response to maintenance issues is not timely. Food is an issue. Fancy names for subpar delivery. At times it is not edible especially the supper. examples: turkey cheese sandwich with no turkey.; meatloaf overheated in microwave to be like a brick, burned to a crisp liver. serving sizes that should be an embarrassment. Night crew does not know how to cook and does not care what they deliver to the residents. Management seems unable to make appropriate changes. Complaints are met with promises of changes, but none are made. Good activities by volunteers. Light Housekeeping is definitely light. Change linens and towels.

Whealdon Estates was nice, but it was too expensive for my friend to afford. They let us have lunch with them, and the food was good, but I noticed that for people who have false teeth, the chicken was a little too tough. My friend had some kind of surgery in her throat, so she had to take time to shred it, otherwise it would get hooked in her throat. The dining area was nice. The people were very nice, and they talked to us. For people who can afford it, it’s good.

Whealdon Estates was okay. It wasn’t as nice as the other facilities I’ve visited. The staff are friendly. The facility was well taken care of. It has no distinct smell like in other facilities. I got my sister to facility in Baton Rouge. The name of the facility is Whealdon Estates. I think it is a pleasant place. It is really independent living, but you can ask for assisted living too, so that's what I'm doing. The staff is very helpful and pleasant when I talk to them. The rooms are adequate. I think it is fine, but it is not big enough. There are a couple of things that could be better like they have a closet which is nice, but its door is so heavy that it's hard for her to push it. They do take them out to different places. They also have bingo and people do come in for entertainment like singing and dancing.

Some really nice people working there and their managers actually live at the community are very personable and involved. During my visit I was introduced to the many residents as we walked around and met many happy people who were all referred to by name. Jefferson Hwy is busy but the community is set way back and not visible from Jefferson Hwy...the driveway leads out onto Jefferson we were lucky it was not duing rush hour
