Inspiration for This Nomination:

Carlos will do whatever he can to make a resident’s day. He takes initiative and he’s a self-starter. If something needs doing, he just gets it done. He’s dependable and he’s compassionate. If called to come in for a shift at the last minute, he’s always willing to work, no matter what time he was called. He is an all-around loving, caring person.

Caregiver's Best Skills and Attributes:

Carlos' biggest strengths can be summed up like this: he's a natural when it comes to caring for our residents. Carlos has a way of engaging with residents and making them feel valued and respected. He always participates in our activities right along with the residents, and whatever he’s doing, he brings his own special touch. If he’s playing Bingo with the residents, he’ll turn it into Hawaiian Bingo.

Feedback About This Caregiver:

Our residents love Carlos. Every day, Carlos puts a smile on their faces. He walks in at the beginning of his shift with an upbeat, positive attitude, and he walks out at the end of the day with that same attitude – even when he has worked a double shift. He’s just as pleasant at 10 p.m. as he was when he arrived at 6 a.m. The residents know that and they respond to that.

What Others Have Learned From This Caregiver:

Every community has a resident or family member who is never happy, and we are all challenged from time to time when one of them is rude or unfair. Without going into detail, I’ve watched Carlos deal with the family member of a resident who was unkind to him, through no fault of his own. Carlos always deals sensitively and professionally with everyone, regardless of whether they have treated him fairly. Even when that person has spoken rudely to him, he remains calm and kind himself. We are all learning from Carlos’ example.

More About This Caregiver:

Carlos is eager to learn and to improve his skills. He will be undergoing training as a med passer soon. Because he is thorough and detail oriented, I’m sure he will do well. If I had a loved one with Alzheimer’s, Carlos is the person I would want taking care of that loved one. In fact, if I needed memory care, Carlos is the person I would want taking care of me. He’s that good.

Carlos also cares for his two young sons at home, which makes his story even more amazing.
