Inspiration for this Nomination:

Kelli not only meets, but exceeds everyone's expectations with her personal touch and imagination while caring for others. She treats each on as if they were part of her own family. The story I have chosen about her is only one of many I could share.

Caregiver's Best Skills and Attributes:

I could say so many things. She is always on time, which is a big deal to a client. We expect people to be there when they say they will be, and Kelli will always be there on time for her clients. She seems to be intuitive to their feelings and needs. She is creative and helps make a uncomfortable fearful moment into one that is positive and motivating for the client. She highly respects the one she is serving and tries to bring out the best in them. A personal touch that far exceeds basic needs, which she does with loving patience.

Feedback About This Caregiver:

One of her clients loved her so much she requested that Kelli sing at her memorial service when she past on.

The lady in the story was so impressed with Kelli after the Tea Party that she wanted the story told to others. Saying Kelli is extraordinary.

Kelli is the absolute best......another one has said.

More About This Caregiver:

What others have learned from this caregiver: Never treat caregiving as a job. You will not only be blessed by the life you put back into someone who is experiencing difficulties in aging, you will find your own gifts and creativity along the way. It's about giving life back and discovering that one can enjoy life to the fullest no matter what their age or situation.

A TEATIME AFFAIR........ My client was distressed over losing her husband, facing new personal health issues, and moving into a retirement center. She was at a loss as to who to sit with at meals. We decided that there would be no better way to get to know others than to have them in to your own apartment, and pamper them as special guests! A tea party would fit the profile perfectly! My client was nervous about hosting until I convinced her that I would basically take on the organization, and guide her through the actual party. It was a lot of fun planning the food with my client. We spent one morning buying the ingredients for cucumber sandwiches, and easy (but colorful) hors d'oeuvres. We bought cookies and pumpkin tarts, and strawberries. A pretty display of tea ware and sparkling cider dressed the lace-covered table. We had two hours to put everything together the day of the party with a nap for my client before people came. It was a wonderful morning with delight on the faces of all the guests! We even had "Adult Show and Tell". Each guest was asked to bring one of their favorite things. Then they shared about the item or experience and many memories were shared. The best part was to see the beaming face of my client who knew she had done something special for a handful of women that she could now call friends! I've noticed that she has been gaining confidence this past month, and is able to join people in the dining room with ease. No wonder tea parties have been part of cultures for centuries!
