I am a current client of this provider
I called and inquired with a lot of other home care agencies and a lot of them needed the 24/7 and we are not there yet. Companion Care Aid is referred to me by a friend who have used them for some time and they got the 24/7 care. I called Companion Care last year when we were not ready and now I called them again. Last year they told me I needed 9 hours minimum and this year they told me we need 6 hours minimum. Since I am not working now I felt I couldn't justify more hours than we really needed because you have to commit certain hours a week. It's a job for them so they have to set up their schedule too. My husband is the one being cared for and he is German and he still speaks with a heavy accent. He goes back to Germany a lot. He has a very funny sense of humor still so if you are pleasant with him, he is usually very easy. They don't have much conversations. He understands a lot of what's going on around him but he just can't express it. He has lost all his numbers and everything so he can't use the remote control or dial the phone. Basically he can't really be left alone. So anyway, what's good about Companion Care Aid is that they got back to all of my inquiries. They listen to exactly what kind of person I needed because I had found somebody on my own and she was wonderful. She was excellent actually. However she had a really heavy accent too and I wish It could have been a fly on the wall. Even though they were both speaking English, they are both speaking very heavy accents. He loves her but he just can't understand her most of the time. She's Indian accent and he's German accent so it was kinda comical and so I thought I'd hire somebody that is really American without an accent so I ended up hiring Companion Care. The caregiver so far, she only have come twice and she's finishing up teaching at a pre-school this week and she's starting a certification course for 2 weeks. She had been doing the caregiver job for 7 years. She was a little apprehensive because my husband is incontinent. So apparently the 24/7 caregivers are trained to do that and if I leave for 48 hours on a weekend, they're trained to do it. My children want me to work on finding someone I'm familiar with so that I can go away on for weekends because they don't live nearby. My daughter is out of the country and my son lives in Virginia. So anyway, the caregiver is very attentive and helpful to us. She is very bubbly and friendly. She is on her 50's and she has 3 grown children.
