I'm sorry to say that my mother received terrible care during her 11 days in this facility. The facility is dirty, essential equipment is broken or unsafe, and staff takes no measures to wash hands or use hand sanitizer between patients. 75% of the nurses and aids need to be fired. They are cold, uncaring, and have no clue how to work with patients and families during such a difficult time. The pastor (Shane) is completely clueless when it comes to counseling or comforting dying patients and bereaved families. He defers everything to the social worker. If you ask a spiritual question he gives you a 'deer in the headlights' look. He has no business working in a facility like this. There are 2 RN's and 3 aids who are exemplary. The volunteers are amazing, each and every one of them. Other than those few people, our experience with the staff was a nightmare. Other than administering morphine and Ativan, the staff rarely checked on my mother. If you care about your loved one go with MUSC palliative care instead.

I am a friend or relative of a resident
Hospice of Charleston was good. They did what they were supposed to do. I just didn't like the part where my father didn't eat or drink anything. They didn't try to give him anything, either. The staff was good; their attitude was fine. The nurse communicated well. The services themselves were pretty good. They did their job keeping him comfortable. They gave him the medication to keep him out of pain.

I am a past client of this provider
A year ago in May 2011, my mother was admitted to the Hopsice Center for care. She unfortunately suffered from Alzheimer's disease, which steals your loved one away before they are physically gone. She loved flowers and was very dedicated to walking around the block in our neighborhood and picking a wide variety of flowers which she had our house decorated with year around. Unfortunately, one afternoon she fell while on her walk and broke her hip, which caused a dramatic decline in her health. She was admitted to the Hospice Center for care at the end of her life. This facility has a sense of peace and caring which is felt upon entering its front doors for the first time. She also had fresh flowers in her room during her stay, which were provided by the wonderful volunteers. The staff is caring and concerned and provided excellent care not only to my mother, but to our family who was struggling with the situation. My father is visually handicapped and the staff and volunteers at the Hospice Center were just as helpful to him as they were to all who entered their doors. I can not thank them enough for being caring, professional, and supportive during this trying time. They will forever be in my gratitude and thoughts.
