I am a past client of this provider

Hospice care for my father. Hospice claimed to support the family as well as the patient. This was not true for our family. We constantly had to reach out to them for updates and follow ups. They said the team would do something and we had to micromanage Dad's treatment plan to make sure it happened. Added stress we didnt need-especially from an agency that specializes in end of life care. After our Dad passed, we never heard from anyone at Vitas UNTIL we completed a survey and they realized "the ball was dropped" and no one reached out to us. Hospice is a great end of life decision. VITAS is NOT a great end of life decision. I wanted to give zero stars but you have to give at least one!!

    I interviewed this provider

vitas of middlebury jumped into action immediately and took over the care of my mother who had just returned home from a rehab center. we found out on a thursday that her condition was terminal and deteriorating quickly, and by saturday morning i called vitas and they came immediately and from then on they took wonderful care of my mother who passed a week later. vitas was here at home with her every day and night and also in constant contact with me and my family, checking on us as well as helping my mother as she slipped away. even now, four months later, vitas sends me information and offers help, which i didn't think i needed, but i probably will call to help me cope with the loss. i don't know how i would have gotten through this without vitas. my mother wanted to stay at home and vitas allowed me to keep my promise that i would.

    Provider Response

Dear Millie, Please accept my condolences for the loss of your mother. I shared your feedback with the VITAS Waterbury management team and we all greatly appreciate your input. I'm glad your mother's wishes to stay at home were honored and that she remained comfortable during this difficult time. We wish you and your family all the best during your time of healing. Sincerely, Avni Parekh

My Dad was only in Hospice Care at St. Mary's Hospital in Waterbury Ct.for only two hours before he passed. However, in this short amount of time the compassion, caring and professionalism of everyone we came across was remarkable. The interview process was comprehensive, we were not being pressured or hurried. The unit itself was very serene and peaceful. All of this helped make this devastating time a bit easier to cope with. Vitas Care is a wonderful organization, do not hesitate to call on them. They still keep in touch and it is 3 months since my dad's passing. Marguerite

    Provider Response

Dear Marguerite, I'm sorry to hear of your father's passing, please accept my condolences. My name is Avni and I read all reviews and comments about VITAS. I am pleased to read you weren't pressured or hurried, as it's never an easy decision to place a loved one on hospice care, whether it's for a few days or a few months, it's still a challenging decision. VITAS' inpatient units are specifically designed with our patients' comfort in mind. I'm glad it provided a sense of peace while your father and family were there. I have shared your kind words with the Waterbury team who cared for your father, as well as our management team, and we all greatly appreciate your feedback. As you know, we like to keep in touch and make sure you and your family are OK. Please do not hesitate to reach out if you have any questions. Sincerely, Avni Parekh

My Mother's condition was changing and her doctor said that it was time to contact Hospice. When asked he recommended Vitas. Everyone we worked with was wonderful. The nurses were wonderful, so kind and caring. The admissions process was easy to follow, the nurse was very helpful. The nurses were with Mom 24 / 7 ,they took care of getting the medication and adjusted as needed to keep Mom comfortable. They were very gentle and kept her clean and comfortable. While everyone was great to both Mom and the family, Diane, Attah and Bob G. Were exceptional. I would not hesitate Vitas to anyone in need of Hospice services.

    Provider Response

I am a past client of this provider

When my elderly mother was diagnosed with end stage cancer, our doctor thankfully called in Vitas Hospice Care. Their nurses arrived the very next day to start care and our family felt immediate relief. Their goal was to keep my mother comfortable and able to live a quality of life in her last days. The nurses were pleasant and paid special attention to the emotional needs of our family. They took care of everything for us - swollen feet, they took care of it - break through pain, they took care of it. When the end of near, they brought in the most caring, loving nurses 24/7. When she finally passed, the nurse that was with her stay way past her time to make sure our family was okay. We would recommend them to anyone who wants comfort and good care in such trying times. Thank you Vitas.

    Provider Response

Michelle Hanlon, General Manager, VITAS of Waterbury

Vitas Healthcare's caregivers took care of my husband and worked all day and all night. They did everything for him and took full charge with his care. They are also very pleasant.
