I am a immediate family member to a patient. My family member has expressed concern with at least one of the nurses lack of attention, she wants to get in and out as quickly as possibly and has signed his name for his medication releases. As a family member I am disappointed with the communication and partnership. I thought hospice was suppose to communicate and partner with the family in order for the patient to receive the best care possible. If you are looking for a provider that is willing to partner with the family, this is not for you. I would recommend finding someone else. We are in the process of looking for a new provider.
I had been through hospice with my mother and knew what to expect from them, but my dad was under the care of Mount Carmel Hospice from March 17 until we switched. They told us we would have a home health aide come to help him bathe, but we didn’t get anyone. He was a World War II veteran, and they said they had veterans volunteer to come and sit and talk with him for four hours a week, and that never happened. He just got to the point where we couldn’t get him to take his medicines, and we called them because we needed a nurse to come out, and we didn’t get a call back. We called them at 1:00 in the afternoon, called them back at 4:30, and they didn’t call back until 8:00 that night to see if we needed a nurse, and of course by that time I told them no, I needed it six hours ago. We had to call them probably three times a week and one nurse would come maybe twice a week. They said that as he gets worse, they would be able to come more often, but we never got a visit at all from the health aide or from the volunteer department. They didn’t bring us anything, like when we needed gloves, bed pads, and stuff like that. She went out in her car one day and just brought in a handful of gloves. It just wasn’t a good experience. They’ve been in business for 25 years, which is a shocker.
I would very much recommend Mount Carmel Hospice. I wasn't the primary contact so I can just say that I got good feedback from the person who was. Their care was excellent. They provided massage therapy. They were just above and beyond. They really did a good job.
