I am/was a resident of this facility

We are new JKV residents—about a month. Unfortunately, I found myself hospitalized and needing skill nursing care for about 6 weeks. This is a reason we moved here. We live in a garden cottage down the street from the health center. It’s very convenient for my husband to hop in the golf cart and be here in less than 2 minutes. Having spent 6 weeks in a facility in McAllen last summer for a similar situation I can say that the health center here at JKV is head and shoulders above that other facility. Everyone is extremely helpful, attentive, and polite. I can’t say enough good things about our experience so far. We love our remodeled cottage and our neighbors are wonderful. I HIGHLY recommend JKV to anyone looking for a life care community. The convenience of going from independent living to assisted living or skilled nursing all in one place is invaluable.

I am/was a resident of this facility

My experience living in John Knox Village of the Rio Grande Valley has been fine. Sometimes you have to keep at 'em if you need something, but on the whole it has been comfortable. The staff is helpful and the living atmosphere has been fine for me. I would advise others to be direct with your questions and make sure you have all your answers. It does not have an Alzheimer's unit. So if their med center can't handle the person, they have to be removed, which is probably the same in a lot of places. That's for their safety as well as other people's safety. The staff is very nice. If you need help you call the office and they put you on the list of who's free to help you and they come to help you. The place's cleanliness is good, but the maintenance could be better. The food is fine, but right now everything is on lockdown for safety from the COVID virus, so there has been no entertainment for parties. The general food over at the cafeteria is satisfactory. It may have gone down a little in the last three months, but on the whole, it has been very good.

I am a friend or relative of a resident

We decide to put my parents in John Knox. It is a retirement community where they can actually go from retirement living to assisted living to nursing home, all in one place. I will recommend it because it is very nice, and I like it. I like the staff, and it is very clean. The food is wonderful. They have very good meals.

I am a friend or relative of resident

My mother has been living in a patio home at John Knox for four years now. This is the most warm and loving place I could ever hope for. The grounds are so beautiful and everyone there is very friendly and helpful. My sister and I can't say enough nice things about John Knox Village.

This was the second facility I visited and was ultimately my final choice. My grandma can barely see, has trouble moving due to a car accident a few ago, and is suffering from dementia. We could not look after her due to work and school. We live in Mercedes so John Knox being in Weslaco was an added benefit, it allowed us to visit daily and get a feel for the faculty. It seemed like a good place. We only meant for them to look after her temporarily, until we could adapt to the situation. I met many of the nursing staff during my visits there were a lot of good people that genuinely cared for the patients, but as with any other place, there are always a few that a just there, just doing their daily chores like programmed robots. All in all I would rate this place very highly and have recommended it to other without any problems.

I visited the John Know Village just about six months or so. My best friend has her great grandmother currently at the facility. I must say I was impressed with the place itself. Very unique, caring and everyone is friendly. Of course you do have your not so nice encounters. I do not have a name but I did somehow encounter myself with an employee, not really sure her exact position but I do believe she is in charge of payroll or other employee duties, but the point is that she smelled so much like smoke. I mean a lot like smoke. Just maybe she had just finished smoking. I do not really think that is something appropriate since their is elderly people and what I saw not all of them are in the best of health. Kuddos do go out to the cleanliness of the place. Rest rooms which for me are very important were great. The place might actually feel at home if I ever decided to get an early retirement.

John Knox Village is a wonderful facility. I grew up in the area. Both of my grandmothers and many members from my church lived there. The staff did a wonderful job taking care of them. I visited at least weekly for many years at each level. It's great that you can enter at the level of care you need and then move within the village as you require more care. One of my grandmothers started with an apartment there. It had a small kitchenette, but she took most meals in the cafeteria. She had a nice view of the lush vegetation on the grounds since at even at about 4 stories it is one of the tallest buildings in town.My other grandmother started directly in the skilled nursing center. She had had a stroke and Alzheimer's disease and needed total care. The staff was very caring and provided her all the assistance she needed with eating, bathing and other tasks that were more than we could provide at home.John Knox Village has a very active population with many clubs, hobbies and meetings in which to participate. The population comes from all over the country since many people choose the area for retirement. I also always felt like it was a safe and secure location.I think it is hands down the best location in Weslaco.
