Cogir of Vancouver was my favorite so far. The tour was good. The staff I met were all pleasant. I ate lunch there, and it was good. They're not big meals, but seniors don't need as big as I did. And I was so impressed with the staff and that dining room. I was there a little while, and they greeted everyone by name and were very cordial like, 'Can I get you a dessert? These are choices.' And they were like that to everyone. I was very impressed by the waitstaff. The common area was nice. They're lacking a few amenities now, and it's nothing against them, it's just how it is there. They don't have as many options for food there either. It's good for what it is.

Cogir of Vancouver was very nice inside and more modern. They did have a 1-bedroom apartment, and it was very clean. There were residents out and about, and it looked like they were happy. The staff who showed me around was very knowledgeable. He was very pleasant, very professional, and very nice. They had a cafe, and they had a buffet with a sit down place. I really liked that they had different amenities like that. They had a courtyard, a beauty salon, and a movie theater.

Cogir of Vancouver seemed really nice and a little bit more modern than the other one. It seems like a little newer, but it was more expensive also. It was more than my dad could afford at this time. The staff who gave me the tour was knowledgeable, friendly, and nice. There's a lot of activities, groups, game nights, and social hours, stuff that my dad would be able to be a part of. I did not try the food, but the menu looked good, there was a lot of options.

We toured Cogir of Vancouver. It was fabulous. Christopher took us through the tour. Beautiful facilities. They are very clean and very nice. It was like having a small apartment. It was nice. The food looked delicious. They keep them busy. We are very pleased with that one. They have a theater and a nice restaurant. They have a very good menu that they gave us to review with my mother-in-law. They have a big fireplace. It's very homey. While we were waiting for the staff to come and get us, we talked to three ladies there and they were just giggly. They love it so much. They have friends and activities. They have a bus that they take outings in. It is a beautiful place. The staff was very nice. It's just good and a very nice environment. They have very nice rooms. It's a very good layout. It's a rectangle with a courtyard, and so it's got a lot of rooms.

I visited Cogir of Vancouver. I thought that the person that gave the tour was not very nice. It turns out we had to have memory care anyway, which is why we couldn't even do it. The place was nice. It was more the attitude. The dining looked good, way better than the other place. The surroundings were nice and pretty, with trees and stuff. The inside was also nice. The food looked really good. You could get food all day. They had a sit-down place to eat with a menu and stuff, so it looked really good. They had nice outside areas.

My dad is now living in Cogir of Vancouver. I like that the community is just the right size. They also provide the services that we needed. From the places that we toured, they were the most descriptive of the services that they provide. He is impressed with the staff there. They are all very friendly, and you can tell that they know what they are doing. Overall, it was really important that he has the services that he needs at the right price. They were competitively priced compared to some of the other places. They weren't significantly lower, but they were more affordable; it was a big factor as well. The room is spacious and set up for a senior who has problems walking without a walker. His room is really nice. It is a studio with a dining area, a kitchenette, and bedroom. There is plenty of open space to maneuver around for someone with issues walking. He is very picky, and he said he enjoys the food. They have a lot of options. You are able to eat between 7 AM and 6 PM when they have the cafeteria open. Each room has a kitchen with storage for snacks and a microwave. Yesterday, I personally saw there was a beanbag competition going on. They advertise that they have a virtual reality system there, and they do golf, bowling, and volleyball. They also take people on a lot of tours, such as wine tours. They plan trips to the beach. My dad just moved in. We have been in communication over the past couple of weeks just to make sure the paperwork was in. They've been very forthcoming and forward. There were no hidden fees and no surprises. The day that we were there, we got a lot of help moving in. It is large community, and they have the independent, assisted, and memory care separated. They allow the residents to decorate their doors, so it has a home feel. They have a lot of activity options. The calendar is full for the month of gatherings, movies, physical activities, and trips. It is definitely worth the money that we're paying.

Provider Response

Thank you so much for the FIVE STAR review! All of us at Cogir of Vancouver thank you and appreciate the kind words. We love to read that we are being recognized for the things that we are doing to help older folks enjoy their retirement living to its fullest.

Cogir of Vancouver was nice and very well kept up. The staff that we interacted with was very pleasant. They had nice size apartments that were updated, they just didn't have any openings at the time. We walked through the dining area, it was very nice. They also had patio areas and a lot of outdoor seating. It was a nice community. They seemed to know the residents who live there by first names. The staff would greet them as they walked through the main door, or at the desk picking up packages. They were very friendly and the staff seemed to know everybody, so I like that.

The staff we met at Cogir of Vancouver was very helpful, encouraging, very friendly, and knowledgeable. They have one-bedroom apartments, a courtyard for the residents to go to, and an activity room. They also have a lot of entertainment and games going on. They're actually having a car show this weekend.

Cogir of Vancouver has independent living, assisted living, and memory care, so they provide progressive care. It's nicely run. I would rate the manager a 5, but for the overall staff, I would rate them a 3 since they have help problems like any other senior living place right now. My mom is in a two-bedroom duplex. They do housekeeping for her, provide her food, and transportation to doctors, or go shopping. They have a social director. There are card games, puzzles, bingo, and the usual activities. By industry standards, their price is comparable to all the others.

The staff (both leadership and caretakers) seem to genuinely care about the residents. My family member was wanting to go back home since he was kept so busy with fun activities in memory care. They are very communicative. We appreciate them greatly.

I had an in-person tour of Cogir of Vancouver. The person that I spoke to was very professional, informative, and listened to me. I saw lots of staff as we passed through the hallways. I liked that because it looked like people were present and there was help available. It was a very beautiful place. It was smaller, which I also liked. I liked that they had a washer and dryer in the unit. They have all the activities. The meals were not scheduled. You could go to the dining room at any time, and it was restaurant-style.

I went to Cogir of Vancouver. The appearance was really nice. The grounds outside, I mean, you get a very positive feeling outside, even as you walk into the building. It has the feeling of a very nice hotel inside the lobby area. You got a nice big dining area, very open ceilings, very nice. I met with the sales rep, a really nice gentleman, and we went up and looked the facility over, looked at one of the rooms that was to be a one-bedroom, not a studio, and about 590 square feet. A really comfortable layout. It's got a bedroom, a living area, a fairly large kitchen area more than adequate for one person, a very nice bathroom, closet space, and washer and dryer inside the unit, so it's a very, very nice unit. The dining area looked very nice. We did look at their menu. The breakfast had fruit and other things every single day. So I guess it was fruit, hot cereal, cold cereal every day. You can order eggs, bacon, sausage, all normal hot breakfast items if you want to. They have pancakes, waffles, french toast, omelets, along those lines. He said you can get breakfast anytime during the day. Lunch and dinner, they do a different soup every day, different salads every day. They have two entrees every day that are different throughout the week, and then the sides of the mash, beans, carrots, rice, that changes every day as well. If you don't want either of those entrees, they have different options for the week, and they said that there's a week at a time. So like last week they had some fish Reuben sandwich/a chicken casserole available if you didn't want any of the entrees that they were serving, and different desserts every day. It's a pretty comprehensive menu that they have available. The one concern I have is hidden costs that I'm not aware of at this point in time because he mentioned things like if they have to come up to the room to take my mother down to the dining hall, there's a charge for that. If they deliver a meal to her room because she doesn't feel like going down to the dining area, there's a charge for that. So I'm kind of worried about the hidden fees.

I visited this facility

We toured Cogir of Vancouver. We liked that it was more of a community instead of a facility. The room was amazing. It was pretty. It was extremely clean. It was set up well. My in-laws fell in love with it. They like the idea that they can stay -- do a license so they can do memory care in their apartment until they get to a certain level. So it was nice that they could stay in their apartment as long as they can. They do have a washer and dryer in the bathroom, and they have a walk-in shower. They have a dishwasher, a refrigerator, a stove, and a microwave - - a full kitchen. The staff was good, he was very knowledgeable about it. He's very passionate about his job, so that was nice. He was very passionate about them feeling like they still have their independence. So he was excellent. We did not try to have the food, but he was very honest about it and was very upfront that one of the dishes was not up to par today. And we like the fact that it's anytime dining, so if they want breakfast for dinner, they can have breakfast for dinner. They do have a nice courtyard. They have water fountains throughout the courtyard, they have little garden boxes throughout the courtyard. They do have a balcony, so the second and third floor or even the bottom floor has a little balcony. They can put a little balcony or patio chair out there. They want to move in there as soon as possible.

Provider Response

We are always grateful for the reviews that we get and we want to thank you so much for your very kind comments. We are very excited that your in-laws are joining us and looking forward to having them in our community. We appreciate the confidence you placed with us. Thank you again!

My tour at Cogir of Vancouver was really good. I like that it has all the features of the other ones, but it's not so pushy. Like if somebody didn't feel like doing all the activities, it didn't feel like there would be this pressure for that. I like that they were accommodating to allow my mom to have an animal. And I like the layout of the apartments, they're nice. It felt more like a home than a resort. The staff was great. The facilities director, Craig, was the one that walked me through, he was very knowledgeable was not pushy at all. He was very upfront with cost and everything and he even brought in the nurse to talk to me about their process for admittance. And so he was very informative. The apartments were very nice, bright, and homey.

My parents moved into Cogir of Vancouver. Their room is bright and cheery. They have a one-bedroom with a full tiny kitchen. My father is blind and they both use walkers, and there's plenty of room for him to find his way without banging into things. They have really roomy walkways and doorways. Their deck overlooks a garden area with sitting spaces. The building is like a square and in the middle is a garden, a fountain, walking paths, and sitting areas. They've got very friendly staff and really good food. We were very impressed with the food because you can eat anytime you want. There's no scheduled time that you have to eat, which is very nice. I have seen exercise classes, they have bingo, and they have movies. There's a little theater right next door to my parents. There's a one-bedroom apartment with a kitchen with a stacked washer-dryer, but there's also one full-sized washer-dryer per floor.

The room at Cogir of Vancouver was very tempting and had a very good price. But they offer independent living, but they also offer assisted living care with it if you need it. And that's good, except they are private. So once you're out of money here, you're on your own. They offer independent living, but they also offer assisted living care with it if you need it, and that's good. Except they do private pay, so once you're out of money, you're on your own. The director was great. The facilities are great. They could have used maybe a little more selection in their fitness room equipment, I've seen places with a lot better choices. They provide a salon, a small gym, and maybe a courtyard. There's a washer and dryer in the room. Just from a glance, as far as I can tell, the place looked clean to me.

Provider Response

Thank you Cindy for taking time out of your busy day to write this great review for Cogir of Vancouver. Not only do we offer independent and assisted living, but also memory care! We are the perfect community to age in place with independent cottages with garages as well as an independent and assisted living building as well as a memory care neighborhood. We appreciate your feedback and are always looking for ways to improve our amenities. We recently completed a fantastic movie theatre with popcorn and all! Thank you again for your review!

The tour at Cogir of Vancouver was fine. They basically interviewed me a little bit. The facility is more for people that are needing care, like memory care and a little bit more. I guess for somebody that is not necessarily in the best of health, there's nothing wrong with it. It's just that it didn't didn't seem to fit my my expectations to what they would have and so forth. I saw their apartments. They're OK and nothing wrong with them. They are clean and nice. I just don't think that would quite fit my needs. It's a nice and easy place to get to, and there's no problem with that. They actually had a nice sign saying here we are. There were no problems in finding it. It was well maintained and kept clean. No problem with the facilities. It had fairly low pile type of carpeting. There were no trip hazards or anything like that. They do have some activities, and we really didn't dive into that too much while we were there. They have transportation to a doctor if need be or other facility if they want to travel across town.

We visited Cogir of Vancouver as part of a “grand tour” of places for a relative in Portland Oregon and found this place to have exceptionally lovely apartments and cottages, some with patios and balconies. The value also seemed exceptionally good compared to the other places we visited. The Community Relations Director - Craig - was so lovely and patient as he helped to familiarize us with the whole senior living experience. We did a virtual visit from out of town, and 2 on-site visits and got a really good feel for the community of the place. Everyone, staff, and community members, were so friendly and looked happy and engaged and clearly looking forward to their meals, activities, outings, and get-togethers. We would heartily recommend this as an assisted living residence.

Cogir of Vancouver was a wonderful place. The staff there was amazing. I couldn't put my father-in-law there because of certain circumstances, but I did go in and tour it and sit down and talk for an hour. It was kept beautifully. Outside and inside was just immaculate. The residents when I went in were sitting down. They had a gentleman come in and he was playing his guitar and singing for the residents and they were loving it. They were participating, and it was wonderful. The staff was wonderful and they wanted to make sure that they answered all of my questions to see if they could help me in any way, shape, or form. Because I couldn't get my father-in-law in there, they gave me a couple of other places to try possibly, so that I could get my father-in-law someplace. They were just wonderful.

Cogir of Vancouver was wonderful; I like them. We had chosen that one for my father and my mom to live in, they had a 2-bedroom, but unfortunately, my father passed away right as we were moving. I love the management there, they're just fabulous people. I like the care of the management; I think that's a big deal. Also, it feels like a wonderful place for people who want to not just sit in their rooms, it feels almost like a hotel to me. It's awesome. They have a nice restaurant, they have events, I think it's well-done. They offered us a meal when I brought my dad, this time since we had been there before. The first time I went there they had lunch so that my parents could see it together and it was very, very nice. I thought the food was great.

We really love Cogir of Vancouver Senior Living. They're wonderful and we would have placed my mother-in-law there. We would highly recommend them. They were very accommodating, they took their time it was a very good experience. We thought the atmosphere was nice and they just looked like a really nice place to have her go. The staff is very nice they listened, and they were very knowledgeable. It didn't feel at all like a nursing home, the dining room had really tall ceilings it looked like a vacation place they have a big fireplace, and they have a lot of different options for food. The rooms were actually bigger than the other places we looked at, and I think she would have been happy there.

Hi Sandy! Thank you for taking the time out of your busy day to give us 4 out of 5 stars - what can we do to make it a 5 Star experience for you? Let me know your dad's thoughts about the food, we are always striving to be the best we can be and your feedback is very important to us. As we open up more since the shelter in place, and we can begin to get Covid behind us, our full service dining will come back into place and our selection will be greater than what it is now. So please be patient with us, we are wanting to get back to our normal great dining experience. If you have any other concerns please feel free to reach out to me. My mother has Ahlzeimer's, and the reason we chose Brookdale Vancouver Orchards was because it's quieter and easier for her. There are only three stories with different levels of care, and it's easy to find areas like the dining room. Everybody is very helpful, friendly, and accommodating. Even the residents are very friendly and all come up to greet you. We love it here and recommend them. She has a large one-bedroom apartment with a full kitchen, washer and dryer, with a balcony, and a view. The rate is cheaper compared to the other place we looked at. The food is available from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., but soup and salad bar are open all day. You can also go in and order breakfast, lunch, and dinner between those times.

This place was great before Brookdale took over at the beginning of 2014. The new company has really ruined this place. It looks great from the outside but inside it's imploding. Brookdale treats it's employees worse than Walmart and is run by a top heavy, penny pinching management that could care less about it's staff and residents. Because of Brookdale this building has lost over half it's staff and they can't find anyone willing to work there. This company keeps raising the already outrageous rent here, while none of it goes to its employees or fixing the many problems this building has. All Brookdale cares about is taking as much of your money as possible, while underpaying and mistreating their employees -- leaving your loved ones needs overlooked and neglected.

My husband is at Brookdale Vancouver Orchards. It goes from independent living to assisted living, then it has a 20-bed memory care locked facility. They have four private rooms and 16 semi-privates. It’s very nice and very clean. There have been some issues related to his medications, so we’ve had a rough couple of weeks getting his meds straightened again, but their caregivers are mostly really good. There’s one or two staff members that this isn't best job suited for them, but in general, he gets very good care. I have been with him at lunch and dinner; it is good food with selections. They have a wonderful activity director. She’s there four days a week and takes them on outings. She does lots of stuff with them and has a wonderful personality. She’s perfect for these people and always has a smile on her face. I’ve been very impressed with how she is with the residents. The room is fine; it’s semi-private, and we were able to take his own furnishings there like his own rocking chair that he had at home that he sits and looks out onto the garden in through the picture window. They encourage them not to spend a lot of time in their rooms. They have a very large family room that has lots of couches and chairs including the lift chairs if they should need them. I’m happy with it.

When I got to Brookdale, it was happy hour on Christmas, and they were having a good time. It looked like a really fun place. My daughter was with me, and she liked that one the best. Everybody is having such a good time, they have entertainment going on. That was what I like the best about that particular place. They had an extra storage closet, which I thought was good. I liked their studio apartments; it seemed to be fairly good at 410sq. feet. It had this extra walk-in storage closet in addition to the clothes closet, which was nice. It had a little kitchenette. I like Emeritus at Orchards Village a lot. The layout was good. It kind of bordered a little bit on the big side and it also was very cozy. It looked like a lodge in the woods. The ambience of it wasn't like a medical facility or anything. This facility was able to accommodate a two-person assist that we like for my mother. They actually did a trial with my mom to see if she was a one-person assist or a two-person assist. They also had a memory care case my mother deteriorates even more. I was trying to find a place where I wouldn't need to move her again, so that was the next place that I was thinking that was going to do that. I checked their rooms and I like their sizes. They were very nice. They had washer/dryer in the room, which I thought it was very nice. The food was wonderful when we ate there. We did talk about activities. They did have bingo every night and other activities as well. The staff that I met was very nice. I really did like the facility a lot and it was going to be the place she would move into and may still be someday. They don't have many openings but they have always kept that door for us. They kept in contact with us to make sure she's still okay. I like that that they are giving us that personal attention.

Mom is now at Merrill Gardens (Orchards Village) and the facility is extremely lovely. I couldn’t say anything negative about it. The staff that I've met have been extremely helpful. I don’t really know much of the activities, but I know they have church, they have games, and they have arts and crafts. It’s been only a month and she has some problems adjusting but it's mainly because she has a mild dementia which was untreated, but I think she gets a little more involved each day. I haven’t eaten there, but the food looks very pleasant. My sister thinks it's wonderful, but my mother doesn’t think the food is very good.
