I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My sister is at White Oak Estates. The thing I like least is the personnel. Some of the nurses were very rude and screamed at me when I threatened to take my sister out of the facility. One of the nurses said, 'I'm not going to scream now, but you screamed at me. You go ahead and take her out.' So that was an incident that upset me for the kind of money that my sister was having to pay. I said if this is the way we're going to be treated, this is not good. My sister has been here not even one or two days, and to have one of their employees shout and scream at me like that, was very upsetting. I spoke to a supervisor, but I noticed that the nurse was still there. They didn't dismiss her in other words. I just thought to myself, if that's the way they're going to treat me, how were they treating the residents? Another reason that I was upset, was when my sister was first brought in, her bathroom was very soiled, and there were feces in the toilet on the seat. It was overwhelming that the first thing I saw after I walked into the room was the state that the bathroom was in. And my sister is paying $310 a day. That was very upsetting. Things just got off to a really bad start. Also, my sister is always in her bed. She's incontinent. When she first arrived, all they had on her body was a top to cover her, a pair of underwear, and a light sheet over her, and that's all that was on her. When I took a tour of that place before I placed my sister there, there was a larger room where they took them to shower. I suppose they take them in there in their wheelchair. But when my sister first came there, they did not bathe her. They didn't bathe her while she was in the hospital, and I was so looking forward to her being cleaned up when she went to White Oak. And the last time I went to see her, she looked more alert and cleaner, but I'm just not impressed. For the amount of money that she is paying them, I'm not impressed with the care that she is receiving. The only time I see personnel come around is for my sister's meals. Someone will stop by and bring her meal into the room. But I don't see the nurses coming in to take her vitals while I'm there. Perhaps that takes place at other times. But when my sister told me she was using that little sliding table on casters to hold on to as a makeshift walker to get herself to the bathroom, I was shocked. So it tears my heart out to know what she is having to go through and paying such expensive prices and not getting any better treatment than that. I was there one day for lunch. The food is not that appetizing looking. This past Thursday what they brought in for dinner was a stuffed bell pepper, a very overcooked squash in a little container like a fruit cup, and a drink, and that was it. That's what her food consisted of.

I admitted my mother to White Oak Estates. It was the worse experience I have ever had. I am sorry that my mother had to suffer from the medication errors, lack of care, restraining her, not allowing her to stand and walk from day 1 and she walked into the facility with a walker! Her room was seldom clean- dirty floors, dirty briefs in trash, brown substance on wipes and outside of trash container, broken pieces of plastic glass in the floor. No one in the the facility knows what policy and procedure are. Filed a lost and missing article and after weeks they started to look for it, filed a Grievance and couldn’t get response from Administrator or DON. Took weeks and had to corner DON for an answer. ADON and Activities were the most compassionate people there.

My father was in White Oak Estates for rehab. He was doing really well, he had twenty days worth of stay, and I think he was released early. The staff was really good, especially the therapist. We were trying to look for glucose-monitoring systems, but unfortunately, he was released before any of the staff could get him on that, but the physical therapist, speech therapist, and occupational therapist all did a really good job. He was in a private room.

I am/was a resident of this facility

We moved in to White Oak Estates a week or so ago, and it's good. The only problem I had was there's not enough storage space, but other than that, it's very nice. The people were friendly, so we liked it. This is independent living, but they have assisted living also. We have a 2-bedroom apartment with 2 bathrooms. I haven't really had the chance to eat there. They have some classes of different kinds.

I like the layout of the independent living quarters at White Oak Estates. They have a little sun room and I just like the way it's designed. I like the area that it's in, which is a convenient location in town, as well as the amenities it has. They have a very nice gymnasium-type room with a swimming pool and a good assortment of machines for working out. I like that they offer good safety features, for example they check on the residents twice a day. There are many features that appeal to me personally. The staff was extremely pleasant, helpful in providing the information I needed, and not pushy.

The furnishings of White Oak Estates were nicer, but the help was not as much. My relative did not receive as much care as she does at the one she's at now. The grounds were really nice. The rooms was a little bit bigger than the one she has now, but it had a smaller closet. It was really clean with nice carpet and paint. It cost about $300 more than the one she’s at now, and she is getting more care.

My mom has a two bedroom apartment at White Oak Manor. The staff are very friendly. Mom did an evaluation there, and she marked everything excellent except for the food. She only marked it good. Right now, she is having trouble with her knees, so she hasn’t been doing any activities, but they do have activities all around the year.

White Oak is a skilled nursing facility. It is very nice and very clean. They have a nice dining room, and they have a large activity room. I liked it there, and I like how it is laid out. It is a box, and they have four stations so they have one on each corner. I like that there are always a nurse station very close. I like that it was all hard floors because it is easier to keep clean than carpeting. The overall experience is very good. The lady nursing home administrator that I spoke with is very nice and very knowledgeable. We spoke with several other staff members, and they all knew all of the clients. It just did seem like a really nice place.

I went on a tour at White Oaks Estates. The apartments were very nice. I saw their menu, and it was OK. The dining area was nice. The facility was OK. What stood out to me was the wellness center. I would recommend this facility to others.

I visited this facility

My parents are on a waiting list at White Oaks Estates. It’s the closest to me and it’s the least expensive. The rooms are very spacious and very clean. As people are moving out, they’re updating them, and you can have a say on how you want it done. The residents look very happy, and they participate in the activities offered.

I visited this facility

I visited White Oaks Estate, but the price down there was way out, $6700 a month. It had a rehab center in it, and that’s where mom stayed for the rehab. The staff was very nice and the food was excellent, they give you a choice on the menu. The only problem we have is the price. The rooms were a lot nicer -- they had just remodeled and a lot bigger -- they had a sink and cabinet in the room. It was adequate. They had church services, and people come in to sing. The place was safe and secured.
