Covenant Woods is absolutely a first class facility, and we had an excellent lunch there. The dining area was beautiful. At the time we were there, they were expanding the facility. They're too expensive to me.
I am completely overwhelmed by the positive response from this facility. My family had a very sudden and critical need for a nursing home bed when my father entered hospice and my mother was hospitalized within hours of each other. Rebecca and Anthony moved heaven and earth to get my father into their nursing facility virtually over night. Rebecca handled everything including the applications, medical doctor's paperwork and organizing hospice providers. Thank you Rebecca. The staff in the facility were warm and friendly. They were so helpful and courteous. The facility itself is full of natural light. My Dad is able to maintain his dignity. Mostly, there is a sense of peace in a place that could be so full of trauma. I want to thank Covenant Woods for their care and guidance in getting my father and mother settled so quickly, and smoothly
Covenant Woods was on my list of "must visit" places when I was looking for an assisted living facility for my mother. As a "continuing care retirement community," I knew it was going to be much pricier than some of the others in my area, but I also knew it came with a lot of amenities and guarantees. I was absolutely right in my assessment. When I went to visit Covenant Woods, I immediately fell in love with the location, the atmosphere, the friendliness of the staff and the variety or rooms and activities it offered its residents. Unfortunately, I had severe sticker shock when they explained their pricing structure. Basically, prospective residents need to ""buy into"" the community and then pay a monthly maintenance fee for recurring services. In return, you are guaranteed to be taken care of for the rest of your life.
Covenant Woods is a perfect place for someone who already owns a house free and clear and is able to sell it for a nice profit. They can then take the money from their house and invest in a unit at Covenant Woods. However, those individuals who are like my mother (very middle class), can not afford to live at Covenant Woods, since they are unable to come up with the more than $100,000 needed for a ""down payment,"" plus the $3,000 or $4,000 a month that is needed for monthly fees.
Covenant Woods offers a variety of apartments and homes. Each one is beautifully designed with handicap-accessible features. Their nursing staff is top notch and they have a better ratio of nurses to patients than most facilities I visited. There is an extensive calendar of special events and activities for individuals of all levels of care and most importantly, the people seemed very happy living there.
I was invited to eat a meal in one of their dining areas and spend a day as their guest with my mother. Unfortunately, I had to decline the invitation, since I knew that if I brought my mother over, she would fall in love with the place and I knew we couldn't afford it.
One of the things that impressed me the most about Covenant Woods is how the staff addressed each resident by name whenever they saw someone, and asked them a very personal question, encouraging conversation. I felt that this was a great way to engage those who need companionship just as much as they need someone to help them with their activities of daily living.
Covenant Woods is located in a suburban area, but is less than three miles from a major hospital center. They have good relationships with area medical providers.
If you are able to find a way to buy into Covenant Woods for your loved one, you should definitely check it out.
Having visited Covenant Woods on several occasions, I was able to receive a guided tour of the establishment. My first tour was given 10 years ago, but I have since been back. Originally, the establishment was a campus that consisted of both assisted living quarters and assisted living houses. The main building on the campus was like a hospital in that the people that lived there shared rooms that were maintained by employees. The individual houses were contained in a neighborhood setting and their inhabitants were checked on daily by nurses and ground's keepers.
About 5 years ago, the campus expanded greatly and built a gigantic apartment complex next to their existing buildings. It is now a completely finished 4 story building with extravagant patios, fountains, and furnishings. I have entered the lobby of the new building several times and always found it to be in pristine clean condition.
When the building was being built, I was given the chance to observe the architecture from inside. The walls were all supported by steel beams and the rooms were gigantic.
Overall, Covenant Woods portrays an image of unsurpassed employee ethics and accommodation. It's inhabitants are full of life and energy. Most of all, they keep their establishment in perfect condition.
