Both Mom and Dad have been residents at Ware for several years in the Skilled Nursing unit and assisted living side (Dad)! The love and care provided by the staff is amazing! I’m so happy they are cared for and treated with dignity and respect!

Mom was at Ware Presbyterian Village for rehab and we were not pleased with the care staff. There was really nothing about it that was a good experience. I thought they were very understaffed. She had fallen twice in their care. The meals were cold. It's a beautiful facility, but I don't think they cleaned it enough (I think that was because of staffing issues, too).

My mother died from exposure to Covid fr staff as family was not to visit. I wasn’t told she tested positive despite ring on phone with nurses and director of nursing day she was sent to red zone. Her belongings were strewn in trash bags across floor of another resident’s room . Many of her prized belongings were never given to me. I was on campus couple months ago and was blown away by the expansion of the property- apartments, carriage houses etc… all beautiful buildings. Then I saw the dilapidated Health Center. Felt like residents there don’t warrant nice surroundings and dining room looks spartan. An outside area has a tent that has holes on it and is falling apart. There are big trash commercial containers for residents to see as well as flammable tank. Food used to be fantastic back in ‘08 years. During unending quarantine, was fun and vibrant in the great room. Since renovations were done, great room is not used. Residents needs were not taken into consideration. But it looked fresh and impracticable. Staffing is a constant concern and around 2018-2020 so much turnover in upper management. No consistent leadership as there was 10 years ago. It’s very disconcerting how a wonderful place caring for seniors has deteriorated this much over the years.

What I like best about Ware Presbyterian Village is that they had a lot of activities for the seniors. They put the effort in on that. My mother does not participate in them though and I can't do anything about that. What I liked least about the tour was that I didn't see any residents. The residents seem to be all closed off from everybody. Compared to the other places where they were milling around the facility. I don't know what the story was there, whether the people were allowed to have more freedom or not. I don't know about the amount of freedom they're allowed. I toured their assisted living and the person I toured with was fine but I didn't see any other staff there. There were no other people and I didn't know where they were. I didn't meet anyone else, they weren't available. They have a lot more people that are independent living and they have a pool, a fitness gym, exercise classes, and they have someone that comes in to do exercise classes. For someone interested in that, this place would be great for them. It's near restaurants but they also have their own food facilities. It's right on the outskirts of town. You can drive there in a quarter a mile.

Disappointed in the Decline

I wish I could post a photo of my mother's carpet. She's been at Ware for ~ 20 years and the carpet has never been replaced. She received a letter, some time ago, stating that if she wanted any new carpeting she would have to (at her own expense) pack up her house, move all her belongings to storage, and stay at a motel while the carpet was replaced! Outrageous! Equally outrageous is when my 90 something mother has to take care of her own mowing and/or snow shoveling, because it gets left undone by Ware. Occasionally there will be a meeting scheduled, to discuss residents' issues. Meeting guidelines (for those I heard about) stated that they would be hearing "compliments only". Problems or complaints couldn't even be voiced. Initially Ware was wonderful, but ALL services have declined over time (well before Covid). And yet, the monthly maintenance fees continue to rise each year. Presbyterian Senior Living seems indifferent to honoring their responsibilities to their residents.

Ware Presbyterian Village is really good because my church is right down the street from it. Location wise, it is perfect. There's food shopping. There's a Wal-Mart, and my church is there. There's a lot going on in town during the summer. The independent living is more in my line because I'm only 60 years old. The apartment that I'm looking at and the building itself is 55 or older. If it so happens that my health starts deteriorating, I can move from that apartment into assisted living right across the street from this apartment building. The staff was very good. They have one-bedroom apartments. The best part about it was the bathrooms. They had a walk-in shower, instead of having a bathtub that you had to lift your legs up and then go in. For the gentlemen, they have like a woodworking shop if you were into that kind of stuff. They have like community rooms that you can actually walk to or have somebody wheelchair you over to.
