We toured the Glencroft Center for Modern Aging. We saw a gentleman by the name of Richard. He was unbelievable. He explained things very basically and very clearly. He didn't overwhelm us because there is a ton of information and we're new to looking at this. My mom can get very easily overwhelmed but she did not feel that way there. She made that comment to me when we walked out of there. Richard explained everything very well. He gave us some helpful information on how to obtain information about veteran assistance. He went over the programs and all the activities and everything that Glencroft has, which is amazing. He was very thorough, but not overwhelming. We got enough information when we left there, and my mom likes the community, and it is something she would be interested in and entertaining moving in there. It was a wonderful experience. The common areas are big green-yarded areas that are well-manicured with trees. They have an outdoor amphitheater. They have concerts and barbecues. There are areas for pets. They accept pets, which is good because my mom and dad have a small dog, and they welcome them there. We looked at their casitas, which are kind of on their own. And then we also looked at their apartment area, which is in a three-story building. Both of those were nice. They have a big pool, and they have lots of activities. They have a rehab center there. They have a big outdoor area where there's plenty of space to be able to do the things that you need to do. And that's a 40-acre campus, so if you wanted to go out and just walk around the campus, you can get your steps in, which my mom likes. They offer yoga and Pilates and things that my mom is active in right now. Richard was the main person that we dealt with. We also spoke to the receptionist who was very welcoming and offered us water. She immediately went in and told Richard that we were there. There was no hesitation. Within probably 3 to 5 minutes, Richard came out, introduced himself, and took us to his office. We passed some of the employees that were there. They were all very courteous and kind. Most of them were busy working, but the interaction was great. It is an older facility, and there's no doubt about that. But it was very clean. The landscaping was maintained. The buildings were painted. For an older community, it seems to be very well taken care of and manicured.

We were impressed that Glencroft Center for Modern Aging had so many options. It's 50 years old and I think it's been fairly well maintained. The apartments were quite spacious. We were looking at apartments that are called Casitas. They're in a separate area for the higher functioning independent people and I liked them. You have an afternoon patio and a morning patio. So, you had two options for you to drink your coffee and have your cocktail. It seemed very open. You could put a gate/fence down for your dog. You can make it as beautiful as you want to. Then we toured the apartment and it had a full kitchen. It's beautiful and well-maintained with lots of space until we get to the bathroom. It was a very narrow opening. They should put a pocket door in there. It was a fifties bathroom, if you're old enough to be aware of that. It's a very narrow door and a very narrow space. You just get in there, do what you have to do, and get out. That was a real turn-off for me. If they widened the door, and made it a foot wider, that would have probably made me happy, but no, the bathroom was not. The gal was very helpful. She had lots of information and was willing to talk numbers if we wanted to. We ate there and the food was acceptable. It was fine. The service was good. They had attentive staff. It didn't wow us, but it was home-cooked food. The campus is confusing until you know it. You had to go from one place to another. You're walking or driving, but probably walking would be the best thing, and there are so many buildings there that I could get lost very easily. I think it's too many buildings to try to find where you want to be, but they have everything that we were looking for. It's just in a strange place.

The tour experience at Glencroft Center for Modern Aging was a five. It was very nice. There is a nice variety of townhomes called Casitas Campus, which is well laid out. They have great amenities. The fitness room is awesome with a full-time trainer. They have a variety of home casitas or apartment-style living, three locations to eat on the premises, a bank, a thrift store, and an entertainment room. They have lots of activities and lots of scheduled activities as well. They have a traditional dining area, one with a fast-food atmosphere, and the third one is a bar and grill. Rick, the staff, was very cordial, very communicative, answered all the questions, and gave us a second tour. This is our primary choice at this time for my father-in-law. It's very clean and well-kept.

I felt like Glencroft Center for Modern Aging was an older property. It could have been more updated. But the people who were working there were extremely nice and knowledgeable. They were very helpful, wanted to help me out, and made sure my mom was going to be OK. And that was the good part about it. I just don't think it was modern enough or large enough. It was clean, but still very dated. They had games and crafts. They offered the services to get to the store and doctor's appointments. The surroundings were beautiful. What was most important to me was the fact they had a beauty salon she could go to and they had dinners that she could go to and eat with people if she wanted to. They had a lot of interactive games to help my mom. If we were to put her there, she could get to know people and have people to interact with. The staff who gave me the tour was very personable. The dining area was small, but there was a variety of meals.

I moved into the Glencroft Center for Modern Aging. They upkeep quite often. The campus is nicely laid out. It's a very nice place to live. The staff is great. They have a gym where they do all sorts of balance classes and things that people might need when they're out of surgeries and stuff. They have sewing, quilting, and painting classes. There's a lot of class for everyone. They have two different restaurants. They have their dining, and then they have Henry's, which is a great place for hamburgers. Henry's gives you almost anything you want, and that's nice. I like the food plan now. They have a hospital here on campus, too.

My mother moved into the Glencroft Center for Modern Aging. She's very happy there because of all the activity. They have a mobility class, water aerobics, and talent shows. She does comedy there. The food is OK. The facility is very clean and well kept. Security is always driving around, so there are no issues. It's very safe. My mom's apartment is perfect. The staff is very helpful.

About Glencroft Center for Modern Aging in Glendale, AZ
At Glencroft Center for Modern Aging, we feel “Successful Aging” can be summed up simply by making sure someone, no matter what their age, has a sense of purpose and direction. If we can provide our seniors with purpose, passion and meaning in their lives then we will put them in the best possible scenario of aging successfully. As an organization we maintain focus on helping our residents achieve a sense of fulfillment in many key areas of their lives: physically, mentally, socially, spiritually and emotionally.
Making New Friends with Similar Interests
At the core of us, humans are social creatures. Even when older, there is a need for a community where every individual feels like a part of something bigger than them, like they matter. There is a feeling of being safe and lightness of being that can come from that arrangement that is invaluable. Research shows that of the top factors that improve quality of life, our daily social interactions with other people top the chart. While you are out and about in your community doing what you love, you’ll come across other seniors of your age who enjoy the same things. If you find your social circle has gotten smaller, consider taking an on-site class to meet interesting people with similar interests.
Enjoy Many Amenities Close to Your Home
As you factor in the cost savings of having so many things you love to do so close to your home, you’ll also want to consider the convenience. Yoga or fitness classes, indoor pool, some special events, various type of adult education, and entertainment are all located onsite, along with gourmet dining options staffed by professional chefs. Regularly scheduled worship services and other special services such as bible study, home and hospital visits, as well as grief counseling services are available at Glencroft. We have our own separate barber shop and beauty shop easily accessible on campus. Free weekly trips are made to several nearby grocery stores and shopping centers.
Never Worry About Home Maintenance or Yardwork
One of the key advantages of a senior housing, Arizona community is saying good bye to yard work, home maintenance. There are a lot of pieces that have to fit into the puzzles of making a place a home. There is the cleaning that has to be done, ensuring the front lawn is kept well respectable. Does it look like there might be a storm? So, the roof has to be checked too. Winter is here; are the heaters working properly? Who will clear the driveway? There are dishes to be washed after meal time and laundry to be done periodically. It’s a lot of work, and it is work that is easier to do when you’re younger and your body does not begrudge you those strained muscles. Being in a continuum care community affords the benefits of maintenance without the input of your time and energy that goes into it. These things are included in your monthly senior living fees packages. You may even have the option to add extra housekeeping services too.
Move in Healthy and Stay Healthy
We offer an incredible variety of engaging activities for any senior who is experiencing changes in their physical and mental health. The social element here can provide great motivation and stimulation.
The vision of Glencroft is to create an environment that inspires seniors to experience enriched and fulfilling lives. Glencroft is the largest Senior Living Community in Arizona and the 4th largest in the nation. The community sits on 40 lush acres of citrus trees and grass. We offer all-inclusive services to our residents which consists of housekeeping, security, meals, transportation and activities. If your loved one needs additional attention we offer ‘Glencroft at Home’ services to help with activities of daily living to assist residents. This allows our residents to remain independent for the longest amount of time.
