I decided on St. Andrew Estates; their grounds were lovely, and everything seems to be very well-kept. The dining facilities were beautiful, they have a lot of activities, I already know a couple of people there, and they speak very highly of it. It has proximity to the Catholic Church, and that’s important to me. It’s also close to the Town Center Mall, which is very nice. It provides transportation to doctor’s appointments and church.
The main thing that I liked was that they have a beautifully upgraded assisted living facility right there on the grounds, they have skilled nursing that’s been rated 5 stars, and it has single rooms. I have looked at several other communities where the skilled nursing was usually a double room or you had to pay extra. It’s also non-traffic. The advantage of the CCRC is that when you go in, part of your entrance fee is going to be tax deductable, and your monthly payments -- up to almost 40% in some cases -- can be considered a prepaid medical expense, and it’s tax deductable; that’s very important also. The apartment selection is pretty good, and they were upgraded for you with new kitchen, bathroom, floors, and windows. They have a lot of choices there that you can influence before you move, and they also provide a lot of help with advice about your move, which is very nice.
