I visited this facility

The facilities at Oakmont of Capriana far exceeded my expectations. I had heard from others that it was a wonderful place, and that's exactly how I found it to be. The facilities are very, very wonderful. The one drawback is a requirement of a down payment of approximately $480,000 and that's rather prohibitive to many of us, but the facilities and their program and everything is outstanding and is very wonderful. It is top-notch. I saw an activity room, a library, and a movie room. I was interested in all of the eating facilities. They have many options. The lady that took me on the tour (my daughter was with me) did an excellent job of answering any questions that we have. She'd been there for quite a few years and she was very, very knowledgeable about the organization and we very much appreciated her insight. There's another negative thing, but a positive on their part is that they rarely have any openings. They stay full most of the time. Right at the moment, if I wanted to move in tomorrow, that's not possible. They're very popular and so the availability is tough to find, but there's a $1,000 filing that I'm going to put in to get in line for when the one-bedroom is available, and they just let me know about it.

I visited this facility

We toured Oakmont of Capriana. They only had mini kitchens; they didn't have full kitchens. That's something that my mother and her boyfriend were not interested in. But that was a beautiful place, and we like it. It was tucked in a normal residential community with private homes, but it was secure and behind a gate. It's a beautiful facility. They have a salon, beautiful dining rooms, and a movie theater. A lot of these places were the same, they had the same amenities. They did have higher levels of care that they could bring people into the home. The woman that showed us around was very kind and very knowledgeable. Everybody was just nice. All the units that we saw were beautiful; it was just a matter of not suiting what my mother and her boyfriend wanted. The facility was very large, and it was beautifully laid out there. They had a pool, a library, and a movie theater. They had indoor and outdoor dining.

Provider Response

Hi Christine, Thank you for sharing this feedback! We are so pleased that you enjoyed your visit to Capriana! Many of our apartment homes do feature full kitchens. We'd love to invite you back for another tour so you can see the kitchens and take another look around. It would be our pleasure - please give us a call.

I visited this facility

I toured Oakmont of Capriana. There was a little miscommunication of my going out for a visit. When I went, there was a little mix up, but the woman was very, very kind. She said, "Please come back when I have more time," but we did walk through, and oh my goodness, it was a lovely place. She even gave me a little cart of cheeses and sausages and apricots as I left, and she said, "This is for you, and you can eat it on your way home." She was waiting for me there. It's a gated community, and she opened the gate right away when I came. She was very kind, and the receptionist was very kind, too. She answered questions. I saw that the residents have snacks every day. They have fresh baked cookies. The residents were just sitting out there. I went to different activity rooms. It was a beautiful setting. Outside, the courtyard was very inviting for the residents. And I said, "Where is everybody?" She said, "They just had a Father's Day there." I saw the movie place, and they were watching It Happened One Night, and there were several people there. One disappointment was, when I talked with them on the phone about prices, I thought they would have a studio. But it was a little disappointing because I think it's $145,000 down that you put in and you don't get it back unless you move out, so I knew my loved ones couldn't do that for a studio. When I went there, I thought that the studio would be an option, and I don't know if it's really an option for new residents to come in, and that was a disappointment. However, she was just very inviting, and just wonderful. The building was very nice and very well kept. The food looked outstanding. Even the waiters were very polite, very professional, and very well dressed. I thought it was an excellent idea for the seniors that at each meal they have a sample. I don't know if it's wax or real, but it shows exactly what the meal is, so that if they can't read or if they're not quite computing or for whatever reason, it helps them see immediately what the choices are individually. They could also eat inside or outside.

What I liked the most about Oakmont of Capriana was probably the activities. They play Bridge (I am a big Bridge player). I love dogs, and they have places that overlook the dog park. They allow pets. I was also impressed with the menu in the dining room. It looked pretty high scale. They pretty much have the same stuff as the other facilities like housekeeping and everything. They have a washer dryer in the unit itself if you wanted to do your own laundry or you could have somebody do it for you. The two-bedroom that I looked at was like a house. I was blown away by the size of the apartment. It was huge. The one-bedroom was fairly good sized, too. Everyone was very friendly. There were more people up and visible when I visited. The only problem was the entrance fee. It's $50,000, and that's a lot of money. They actually wanted a $500,000 deposit and you get 90%of that back. It is still $50,000 that you're paying just to live there, and that doesn't cover your monthly fees or anything. That's just the entrance fee. I thought that was a little high.

Oakmont of Capriana was perfect. It was just too expensive. They have a waiting list. I believe that they're 80% capacity at this point, and they needed to pause it for the waiting list. They didn't have the two-bedroom, two-bath units available at this time. They had a beautiful koi pond, a pool, a rec room, a theater, and laundry in the actual unit. There's a full kitchen and a full-size fridge in the unit. They're very spacious and had plenty of storage. The rooms were very generous. The bathrooms and the shower stalls were very big. They had all the bars and everything in there that they would need to help hoist themselves up. The material was very good. They had granites and tiles. The facility itself was very clean and very nice. They even have a barbershop. The amenities include the transportation and medical staff on standby, and that seemed great. It's just very pricy. The staff members were very accommodating, and they answered questions very well. They had everything.

Capriana was very nice. I didn't eat there, but it looked like they had a pretty good variety. They had underground parking, which was nice, but they didn't have on-site extended care. Other than that, it was pretty convenient and in a nice location.

I enjoyed my tour of Capriana. The property was beautiful, they were very informative, but it's expensive. My parents are used to being in a 4,000 square foot house on eight acres, so unless I have space for them, they're not going to even consider it. This place has four acres of property, so it's appealing and we'll see how they feel about it. They have art galleries or art space for them to paint, needlepoint, and a craft type room for the women, a poker room, and pool tables, a wine bar, and a little coffee bar type place.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

It was very difficult searching for a memory care setting for my mom. She loves gardening, listening to music, and going for walks. We picked Villagio because we realized our mom can continue doing the same things she enjoyed before she was diagnosed. The person is charge of activities does a great job and every time we visit our mom is very happy. I look forward to getting the activities calendar every month to see what fun things the staff has planned.

Capriana was very nice, new, and modern with a great atmosphere, like going to a four-star hotel. I loved it. However, there's a huge amount of money you have to put down to get in, and that’s not financially feasible for us.

Capriana looks like a resort. It has everything that you want to do to stay active. The grounds are beautiful, buildings are brand new, the apartments are very nice, the amenities are outstanding, as far as transportation. The food looked very good, but they are using points system, so it was a little strange. It was an expensive facility compared to the other ones I visited, like $300,000 difference in entry fee. I would give them a perfect rating because I would love to live there, but I cannot afford it.

Provider Response

Thank you for taking the time to review our community! We are happy to hear that you enjoyed our grounds and amenities. Our meal points system can seem a little complicated at first, however it allows our residents great flexibility in deciding which meals they want to enjoy in our restaurant (plus they can use their points to host guests!). If you would like to learn more about the meal plan or any other aspect of our community, please don’t hesitate to call. Warm Regards, Jennifer Turgeon, Executive Director

I believe our insurance would not qualify us to live in Capriana. They were very nice. It was convenient, and it was near a very good hospital. It did not have a lot of action going on inside, which would tell that too many people were stuck in their rooms. As far as I could tell, the dining room was alright. The place was quite new.

Provider Response

Thank you for sharing your experience with Capriana. The location is great and we offer complimentary, chauffeured transportation with 10 miles of our community so our residents can take advantage of nearby shops and restaurants! Many of our residents utilize this service to go out on excursions, shopping trips or to run errands, which can leave our main building a little quiet during the daytime hours. We would love to answer any further questions you have about our community; please don’t hesitate to call. Warm Regards, Jennifer Turgeon, Executive Director

The one I liked the most was called the Capriana. For one thing, they did have the requirement that you would move from one apartment to another as your need for assistance increased. That was a good thing. I thought they might have been more flexible on the buy in. It was nice. The dining room looked like a good set up. They didn't have a meal ready for us unfortunately, so I wasn't able to sample them, but we had one of those sandwiches, which was quite good. They had the usual range of activities.

I like the people's attitude the most at Capriana. They are happy and cheerful and everybody is there to help. They have studio apartments up to two bedrooms which can depend on your needs. The dining setup is very good. They got a theater there, an exercise room, and a pool. Just the other day they had a fashion show. They got all kinds of hobbies and all kinds of games. It is secured inside and outside. It is secured on the retirement community on the outside and even secured on the walkways.

Capriana was a fantastic facility. It was very nice. There were lots of good things about it. I'm not sure how many guests they have. It's fairly new. They made some unusual statements to justify the fact that we didn't see anybody during our visit. My impression was that you're basically buying the rooms you're living in and hoping that you can sell it if you leave or die. I'm not going to pay $500,000 for that. I have not seen and read the details and contract, but it was enough to convince me I wouldn't do anything there. The rooms appear to be quite nice. The dining facilities were excellent. There's nothing at all wrong with the facility, but the approach is so extreme that I do not want to be involved in it. I don't want to spend my lifetime savings there and hope that if I die, it will somehow go back to my relatives so they can benefit from it. As far as the facility is concerned, it's great. But in terms of the agreement and the conditions under which you would move in, it's totally unacceptable. In terms of the facilities and services they seem to provide, I would give it a score of 5. Would I want to move in there? It's a 1, because of the contract and funds required.

Capriana was still under construction when we went there. The staff that we were working with were phenomenal. The facility is phenomenal, their building is phenomenal, and so the cost is phenomenal.
