The area doesn’t get much rain, and seniors who are tired of snow won’t see any here. San Jacinto’s average January low is about 37 degrees, which is 15 degrees warmer than the national average. However, it still has about 22 days annually when nighttime lows fall below freezing.
  • San Jacinto doesn’t have a local hospital, but Hemet Global Medical Center is only about 2 miles away. This facility provides a full range of inpatient and outpatient acute care and specialty services. Its cardiology care services, minimally invasive surgical options for orthopedic conditions, total joint replacement, pain management and physical therapy are potentially relevant to older adults. The medical center has received Primary Stroke Certification and specializes in treating stroke symptoms.
  • Seniors in San Jacinto don’t pay California state income taxes on Social Security income. However, most other retirement income is taxed. California’s income taxes are relatively hefty for seniors with higher incomes, but those with lower or mid-range incomes don’t pay nearly as much.
  • Sales taxes in Riverside County include 6% in state taxes and 1.75% in local taxes for a combined total of 7.75%. This means seniors in San Jacinto benefit from paying lower sales taxes than 68.5% of California’s other cities and counties. Plus, groceries are tax-exempt, and prescription drugs are just charged 1.75% in local taxes, which also potentially benefits seniors.
  • Although the overall cost of living in San Jacinto is higher than the national average by 19%, it’s primarily due to higher housing and transportation costs. Health care costs are lower than the national average by 12%, which can benefit aging adults who require ongoing medical care.
