  • Many people retire to Florida for the climate, and Port Orange has one of the most pleasant — scoring a comfort index of 7.2 out of 10. Summer’s blend of high temperatures of around 90 degrees and high rainfall can make for uncomfortably humid days between June and September, but the atmosphere is more enjoyable in other months.   • Voltran is Volusia County’s public transportation system. Its Gold Service is for residents who cannot use the fixed-route service due to their age or disability. It’s a shared-ride program with lowered steps and wheelchair lifts. The service operates Mondays to Saturdays between 6 a.m. and 11:30 p.m., with a limited Sunday service ending at 6 p.m. As of 2022, the fare is $3 per one-way trip. Companions are charged $3 too, but certified care attendants ride for free.
