I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My father is in Livermore Valley Senior Living. My mother-in-law was there a few years ago and I liked it and I knew the facility. The staff is very good and very caring. He has a single room and he shares the bathroom but he's very comfortable there and it's like a home which he would rather be at. I'm pleased with the facility. He does not participate in any activities but I know that they hosted several things and they have a living room where people can congregate and watch VT. In the past, I know they've had exercise classes and things like that, but I believe the clients that they have at the moment are more room-bound, if not bedbound. He is eating much better than he was at home by himself, so I'm pleased with that. I think the pricing is right up there with everybody else and I'm pleased. They have a very nice outdoor area. Clients can go outside and sit in the sun if they so choose or just get a breath of fresh air and that's always nice.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My dad moved into Livermore Valley Senior Living. The location was primarily what we were looking for because we live out in that area, so I was trying to get him closer to us, as well as finding a nice facility. On the outside it was very clean, and it appeared to be a pretty nice place. I talked with the person in charge of the kitchen, she had called regarding my dad's diet, and she was very helpful, and they are trying to make adjustments in his menu for the items that he eats more of. He is eating better than he was in the hospital. At the front they had a big window so you could kind of see in, they had a TV room, and I guess a social room where the patients were singing, some were playing board games, others were reading magazines or newspapers. It seems they have a pretty adequate area for the patients to keep entertained. They were really nice in working with me on a budget.

I visited this facility

I wasn't impressed with Livermore Valley at all. As soon as you walk in, to the right was their sitting room and all I could smell was urine. I thought it was very small and felt like a convalescent home. They have to get the urine odor out. The main room has little blue pads on every piece of furniture and that's not very welcoming to somebody coming in. The dining room was a little room with a few tables in it. The manager I met was very likable.

Thank you for your visit to our community. Unfortunately, at times the first impression doesn’t always tell the whole story. We are a small family style community that provides a high level of care. We have nurses on staff working everyday and a house doctor who comes to the community to make house calls. The staff is highly trained and the residents are happy. We celebrate birthdays and have wonderful activities for our residents. On this particular visit, it may be at the time when we were in the process of changing and cleaning and that might be the reason why you could smell urine at that time. However, there is not the case throughout the day and it is not something we would want for our residents. We treat our residents like we would like to be treated with dignity and respect. We invite you back to visit to discuss your findings and have you meet some of the residents and staff. Livermore Valley Senior Living takes excellent care of the residents.

I visited this facility

At Livermore Valley Senior Living, the young woman that I talked to seemed nice. It's a smaller unit, but they have more than six patients. It seemed nice. A lot of the patients were watching TV together; that’s about all that was going on when we were there. The room is just a room. I can’t say much about it. It had what you need with a bed, a lamp, and a chair included.

I interviewed this provider

We visited Livermore Valley, and it was very depressing with a bunch of sad, old people. It seemed dark and gloomy and made me really uncomfortable. It also had a little bit of an odor to it. It was a small place that wasn't fit for Mom. There weren't a lot of amenities, just a real tiny eating area and real tiny area for the people to watch TV. It was tiny all the way around. I saw one person who was nice and showed us around.

I am the Retirement Counselor for the community, so I coordinate all of the tours and I apologize for my absence on the date that you visited since I wasn’t able to meet with you and personally give you a tour. Had I spoken with you, I would have had an opportunity to find out your Mom’s care needs as well as explain our ‘Enhanced Care Model’ to you and we would have then had a better idea if we were a good fit for each other. We have perfectly bridged the gap between skilled nursing and assisted living by having nurses on staff daily, so our residents have mostly come from leisure care facilities that could no longer meet their care needs once their conditions changed. All of our residents fit into 1 of 3 different categories: 1. Residents With Neurological Disorders The most common are dementia, stroke and Parkinson’s disease. Less common conditions include MS (multiple sclerosis), ALS (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis) and others. 2. Medically Overburdened Residents These are residents having a large number of health issues resulting in a high complexity of care (i.e. diabetes, COPD, congestive heart failure, etc.). 3. Residents With Both Conditions I am not sure what time of day you toured our community, but we have been deliberate about not scheduling tours around an incontinence check since all of our residents are incontinent, so I also apologize for any odors that you might have detected. Our staff has worked extremely hard to ensure that our community remains odor free since an overwhelming majority of the residents that are admitted to our community are 100% incontinent. I can honestly say being odor free happens to be the #1 compliment that we receive from visiting families as well as industry professionals that routinely frequent our community. Here’s what a family member had to say about his Mom’s care at our community: “I am so grateful, the caregivers and nurses here absolutely rock! They are so caring and compassionate. I am thankful that for the last year I have had peace of mind, knowing she is receiving the dignity and getting the care she deserves. My Mother had been in another assisted living facility in Livermore for over a year. The previous facility looked more like a resort, but trust me, it was not a good place for someone who cannot be their own advocate or has mobility issues, and the care was borderline criminal. There were many times I had absolute proof that my Mother was being neglected and abused (baby sitter monitor). There were many times she went without a shower for weeks or sat in dirty depends all day. Sure the staff was all smiles when I was there, and yelling at her when I wasn't. LVSLC may not be the most glamorous or fancy facility, but it is always very, very clean and I genuinely trust them without hesitation. The staff are truly my Mom's advocate and continuously communicate her status and take the time to talk with you each visit. They take care of everything, laundry, bathing, grooming, medications, taking them through the garden, singing to them, or just taking the time to talk with them like a friend, and they closely monitor her health throughout the day.”

I visited this facility

Livermore Valley looked like a private home that they made into an assisted living facility, and I liked it. They were very good about giving attention to the people, and it looked very comfortable. I went into the rooms, and they were nice. They all had their own private bathrooms. They had one room that they use for entertainment with television and listening to music. I have a friend that's there, and they like the food.

Livermore Valley Senior Living is the only state licensed 20-bed Assisted Living community in the East Bay with licensed nurses on staff. We also have a Physician on staff that works closely with our residents and their families, reinforcing our philosophy of always providing the highest quality of care for every resident. Our medical staff is an essential component to how we service the needs of residents with a higher acuity of care (i.e. Alzheimer’s disease and Dementia, Parkinson’s disease, Diabetes, etc.).

Every resident at Livermore Valley Senior Living has a personalized and customized care plan that is unique to their condition and required level of care. Along with our Physician on staff, we also have a Podiatrist on staff that works closely with our team of nurses to help provide the best possible foot care for our residents while they reside at our community.

Standard Care Package for Every Resident:

  • Care and supervision
  • Observation for changes in physical, mental, emotional and social functioning;
  • Notification to resident’s family, physician and other appropriate person/agency of resident’s needs;
