I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My aunt is at Home Care at Kettle's. They were very, very helpful. They helped me move in quickly and also worked with me until we figured out the money situation. The staff is very helpful, very friendly, and always willing to help me and answer my questions and stuff. The residents are allowed to go outside. They have activities in the basement, although, I haven't seen my aunt go down there. Outside they have something like a gazebo. The nice thing about it is they have a nurse practitioner who comes every Monday. She called me and asked me if she could put my aunt on a prescription and then she worked with me to get insurance with the pharmacy that they use. We got my aunt set up on some medicine and stuff.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My sister is in Home Care at Kettle's. It is small. There are like eight people and that's what I liked about it. It's a home setting. She gets individual care and the same caregivers regularly where she can know them, and it's just a better situation. It's very close to my home and they don't shut down every other minute so I can go visit her. I'm happy with them. The staff is very efficient, friendly, very caring, and has a lot of patience with the residents. Alzheimer's patients can be difficult. They have a nice food variety. They post what they're going to have and we can look at it, and if we want to even go eat with them, they allow us to do that, so that's nice. It's always clean. The other day we went, they were washing the walls. I didn't see that they were dirty. Since it's such a small home and the residents are at various stages of Alzheimer's dementia, they try to work on an individual basis with them. My sister likes to color and do puzzles, so she does that and then they try other things with her. Since they don't have a lot of people in there, you can't do some of the things you do with more patients, but I think she gets more individual one-on-one time with the staff. What I'm paying for my sister is very reasonable. They have a patio and when it wasn't snowing, we could go out there. There's a table out there, and in the summertime, they barbecue out there. It's a nice little area and it's closed. She is in the later stages of Alzheimer's, so wandering is a concern. They limit the access of who all can get codes, but we can go in there 24 hours a day and check on her if we want. That tells me they're not hiding anything. If you're hiding something, you don't give people the code to get in. They have three homes and each home is designed to take care of certain stages of people. My sister's in the memory care one and it's locked, secure, and safe. It's a home atmosphere, so I think she feels like she's at home, not in a nursing home. We go check on her every day at different times of the day and we've never run into anything that we felt like "I don't like this." When we took her up to the door and she went in, she got a big smile on her face, one of the residents or somebody she thought she recognized, so that was kind of heartwarming, too.

My aunt has been in Home Care at Kettle's for two years now. They're pretty good. The owner is definitely very nice and works with you, so I feel like it's been positive. The food's been good. They home cook everything. I had a grilled cheese over there once, and it was good. My aunt mostly does TV over there, but most of the other folks that live there are high-need dementia. She has struggled a little more because she's higher functioning, she has trouble making friends just because it's mostly a community for sort of high-need dementia patients. The staff members are nice. I have had good interactions with all of them. I have had some issues. I've got my Netflix set up there and there's been some sort of weird charges, but it is all worked out. It is a nice house. It is definitely more of like you're in a house instead of in like a facility, which is nice.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

Home Care at Kettle's took care of my mom. She was in the memory care. She stayed there for two-and-a-half years. It was absolutely wonderful. They're the best staff. I never thought I'd find a place that would take care of my mom the way they did. They really motivated her, and they're cared for just like family. It was such a nice family atmosphere. They prepared great meals, and with her memory issues, they did little cognitive things and try to do some memory things. They did things like painting her fingernails. I know it sounded kind of petty, but things like that were really special. They went out of their way for things like that. I just can't believe the type of care she got. Any time they had any concerns, they immediately contacted me and touched base with me. The biggest thing for me was the nurse who had called on New Year's Eve and felt that my mom was taking a turn. Even with everything that was going on with Covid, they let me come in with my mask on and I got to lay with my mom and talk to her in and she wound up passing on New Year's Day. That meant more to me than anything in the world, just to be able to say goodbye to her. It is still so fresh, but she's at peace, and they were right there. They told me I was welcome to come and visit there any time. It's just like having another family and that's how they treated me as part of the family. They made my mom part of the family. I remember at one point my mom was having a little more of a lucid moment, and she told me that she felt very loved there, and that was probably the biggest thing for me to hear, that she knew she was in a place that she was cared for. They stayed on top of everything. When I had a home health nurse come in, they told me that they don't think she's following through on stuff, and she's not looking at some of the issues. They were right on top to let me know that they felt there were some issues there, and especially when we switched over to going to hospice. I wound up switching to someone they recommended, and I had such awesome care. Every one of the girls there are just loving, caring, and you can tell they take care of every one of them. They're not just residents, and they're basically an extended family. They show them a lot of love, and they give hugs and all these things, especially during Covid, when family couldn't visit, they stepped up even more. I have no complaints at all. If I had to do it all over again, or even to some of my friends as I have couples that have their mother getting older, and I've already told them that's where I would put them. For me, it wasn't far from where I live, but I knew my mom was safe and being taken care of, and that's a great relief when you can't be with her all the time. I just can't say enough about them. Everything was kept really clean. They made wonderful meals. Everything was just nice and cozy. It's just like going to your grandma's house. I'm an only child, and my mom was all I had left, and it gave me great peace of mind. I would definitely recommend them to anybody to go there.

About Home Care at Kettle's in Colorado Springs, Colorado

The story of Home Care LLC begins with family. As Beth's mother aged with Alzheimer's and required more care, Beth became frustrated with the lack of warm and inviting assisted living options.
