I loved everything about Orchard Hills Living, but the only thing was they don't take insurance. It is out of my pocket. Other than that, the staff was very knowledgeable, very pleasant, and courteous. It's a private home with a yard in there. It's very clean and smelled very good.

This was such a wonderful place for my father-in-law. I just wished we found it sooner. The food was wonderful, the care was so touching and full of empathy. It just felt like a home environment yet with 24 hour care we could finally relax. Again Eric and his staff Amy were beyond what I had at his previous place.

Orchard Hills Living is a very small facility with probably six residents. It's in a conventional single-family house that's been converted into assisted living. Since it's small, there was almost no social activity going on. People seemed to be in their rooms. I think my brother and sister-in-law need to be in a larger place where there's a lot more activity going on, so they can get engaged. The staff was able to answer my questions fairly well, but there was some kind of language difficulty. The place was fairly clean. It was just like being in a house. They had a nice backyard and it goes back up to an elementary school where you could go out and see some kids, which might be attractive.

I liked Orchard Hills Living. I liked the layout of the rooms. There's some space in the middle, that's with dining, and they are very flexible in dining times. If my mom wants something at a different time, they have flexibility on that. The most important thing is that the owner is Chinese, so she can talk in Chinese with my mom, so my mom feels safe, and understandable. The neighborhood is good. The only thing, I hope there's a walking area in the backyard; they have a backyard, but it's all grass-based. I only met the owner, but she said there were two staff on shifts. I saw they had some treats, she said they have all kinds of foods, and they can cook Chinese food if the resident wants, and they do have English speakers. I don't know what culture they are from, but the owner said they can make meals based on their personal favorites.

The tour with Orchard Hills Living was OK. It was nice. The people were friendly and showed me around. I like the fact that it's not like an institution; it almost feels like home. There's only six residents. I like that because I feel like my mother would get better care that way. The rooms are OK. The bathrooms are a lot dated. It's a little tight, but it is handicap accessible. They assured me that if she were to shower or whatever, she would always have someone with her. There would always someone that was there to help, so that's that's a nice thing. It feels like a house. It is cozy. She's going to have roommates. It seems like they always have something planned out daily, but I didn't specifically really see what was planned. I want the hallways a little wider, so they have more room. They have a nice sitting room, dining room, and TV room. She has her privacy and has her own room. I liked that.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My aunt is a current resident of Orchard Hills Living. It is a ranch home in a nice community of Ann Arbor on Georgetown Boulevard. It is on a real nice street with nice neighbors, and it's kept well clean. Since it is a home, there are only six patients in there and each of them has their own bedroom. They have a caretaker 24/7 who actually lives there. There are a couple of caretakers that come in and work eight hours shifts. I think it is a very nice type of facility. They are very conscientious. They fix her with some healthy homemade meals and the food looks excellent to me. They always have a salad and they like to serve soup for lunch, because they want to make sure that the residents stay hydrated. They also do all the shopping. They ask the residents what they would like to eat, and then they shop for them. I think they do a real nice job. They seem to be quite caring for all of the residents and alert to her care, so I appreciate that very much. It is an older home though, and the doorways are small. They keep it very clean, and it always looks nice. I come into the facility rather briefly because I am taking care of her little dog, and they do not allow dogs in there. So I just have to bring her some supplies and things she needs, and then the staff takes her out to the back in the yard where she could see her little dog. Then I leave right away. I am not able to stay too long inside. We just had limited funds, and they came down from their regular price for me. I appreciate it so much.

I visited this facility recently (January, 2018). I was really impressed with the cleanliness of this place, and the dedication of the employee who was working at that time. The owners were very nice, and took the time to answer all our questions to our satisfaction. When we got there, it was dinner time, and the residents were sitting down for their dinner. They all looked very neat and clean, and happy!! Really impressive!! Another plus is that they have all private rooms, which is hard to find in Ann Arbor. I would definitely move my dad here, but they had no vacancy. i will strongly recommend this place

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My mother was at OHM for a couple months maybe 3 Up to Sept 1 2016. We felt safe with her care there, The following are pros and cons: The owner wants to keep all unused rent if the patient passes away which to me is pure selfish and criminal, In other words Big places do not do this and will refund 100% of unused rent if the patient passes away. For example,If a full month of rent is paid on March 1st for the month of March, and your parent passes away on March 2, the owner will try to keep all of the rest of March's rent since it is inside the 30 days. That means a new patient will or can be taking over in the same bedroom for the rest of the month while owner receives DOUBLE rent for the same bedroom. Also when we talked to the owner about us moving out, the main focus of owner was all about making sure we pay for the 30 days after the move out notice.. That mattered more than finding out what can be done to accommodate our mother more. The food from what I understand was nothing special, I don't believe the clients were given a choice of meals. Maybe a choice would be too costly and inconvenient for the staff and owner. Overall the care was good and my mother with Alzheimer's seemed satisfied . The house was always very clean and visiting was as convenient as can be expected, The staff seemed very dedicated to providing personal care from what I could tell. The financial cost per month could not be beat from our shopping around.

I visited this facility

My mom was at Orchard Hills and now home. It was OK, but the food wasn’t the most wonderful thing. Visiting was fairly easy; we were satisfied. We just moved her back home because the food is more plentiful for what she wanted and tailor fit for her desire at home. It was good, and it was the cheapest place. They watch TV mostly, and they wouldn’t go outside because there’s only one staff member most of the time. The staff has to be inside with the rest of the people. One thing I didn’t like was the person -- her name is Marian -- is obviously money hungry; money is really an important thing on her mind. We talked about her moving out, and the first thing that came out of her mouth was, "You have to pay for the 30 days." That reaction was her concern about getting paid for the 30 days even if she moved out like earlier; that was really annoying. Most places, if a person passes away, the family gets all the money back that’s unused, but this wasn't the policy there.
