Fort Vancouver Assisted Living was old, shabby, and depressing, but the initial person was accommodating and nice. It looked institutional and old with minimal activities, but the room looked adequate. The lady who initially gave us the tour and showed us where the room would be available was a 4, but the administrator who explained the costing and everything was a zero.

My 97 year old mother had lived at Ft. Vancouver (Park Lido) for 7 years in a two BR apartment (NOT Medicaid, full pay, private insurance). She was hospitalized for an infection that she had contracted while living there. The doctors recommended hospice care at Fort Vancouver Assisted Living (NOT the rehab center). The head nurse came to the hospital and was rude, incredibly disrespectful to us AND the doctors, and told us mom could not return to her Ft. Vancouver home but would have to go into their rehab facility since they couldn't take care of her -- remember, hospice was engaged, they didn't have to do anything other than basic care. As Mom was in the hospital, we were forced to find another facility (within 72 hours!) and to move her things out. We got her moved; she died 6 days later. They couldn't have let her have hospice care at FV, in her own home for a few weeks (or 6 days???)? Never believe them if they say "Oh, of course, your beloved relative will be treated like family here." The other staff were horrified at this decision. BTW, staff who cared for my Mom were lovely. What a cruel action to take upon a resident and a family during such a vulnerable and rough time.

My Dad was at Fort Vancouver Assisted Living for a week for respite care, and that place was awful. It's not bad, but it's older, and I wasn't impressed. It didn't give me a good feeling. The staff members were nice enough. He said the food was good. They had activities, but he didn't participate, and I didn't see any. I thought it was very expensive for respite care. It's needs to be a little cleaner, and they need to answer their residents when they need help.
