I am a friend or relative of a resident

We chose Isabel's Care Home because it was small. They didn't have any patients that were in hospice and my brother is only 72 years old, so he is very young to be in a home and I didn't want him to be around people who are already in that situation. The care providers were very thorough during the interview and since he has been there, I am very pleased with their care of him. He is always perfectly groomed, always fed, and while he wants to come home, of course, but he has nothing negative to say about them. It is as if they treat him special, but they treat all of their residents special. My brother is diabetic and has dementia, so anytime they do his blood level for me, what they do is hold the instrument for him and they call me every time to let me know what it is, as if I had to go there and give him insulin. They don't have to call me; they didn't have to do that, but they do. They don't have to call me if it is normal, but they always call me. If we wanted to take him out of the room to go somewhere, they already have everything packaged for me; his equipment, diapers, a change of clothes because we have gone over that before when we had to go somewhere and now they just automatically do it. The rooms are small, but they are fine. They don't spend a lot of time in the rooms because they don't let them spend a lot of time in the rooms, which is good. There is room for a 30in. TV, and there is a dresser and night stand. Everything is new, we provided the hospital bed, and I provide the diapers and things of that nature, but otherwise I think everything is fine. Their dining room is fine, it fits everybody, and you could see some kitchen into the dining room. I go very often at mealtime just to see what they are feeding him and they feed him really well. I like the fact that they are in all different stages of aging and types of things that come with aging and a little dementia, on top of all the other ones, but they are not so old that he would feel like he was put in there in die. They all are mobile, he is the one who has less mobility than anybody, and they are all very nice. I speak to every one of them when I go in, and then the care providers, I just think they are above excellent. I think it is nice that they only have rooms that are for one person. You don't have any situation where you have to share a room. They have two restrooms there, and then they have a gentleman and a woman on the staff, so that the gentleman takes care of the men's hygiene needs and the woman then deals with the women's. I like the setup of the house. I like that there is a little kitchen nook, so that if there is only a couple of them that want a snack or something, they can sit in the nook. Then, there is a large dining table for everybody, and there is room for company. If any of us wants to sit and have dinner or lunch with him, we are allowed to, we're invited to. Right outside the dining room is a TV area, and nothing is enclosed. It is always an open lay out, so they are always seen. I like the fact that they are never in situations where the workers are relaxing in one room and everybody else is in another room.
