I visited this facility

I went to Sodalis Texas City. I had a full tour. They showed me a semi-private as well as a private room. I saw the cafeteria, the bistro area, and the garden, too. It all looked very nice. I'm looking for a private room, and their pricing is not the best for the budget that I have, but other than that, it was fine. They provide a small refrigerator and a sink. The room they showed me also had a microwave, but they don't supply any furnishings. You have to bring in all furnishings yourself like the TV, bed, chairs, and whatever. The person that showed me around was friendly and knowledgeable. She answered my questions. I was supposed to have a 1:00 appointment, I got there right at 1:00, but the director who was supposed to give me the tour was tied up, and she couldn't get to me, so the receptionist had to do the tour. I had to wait about 20 minutes before the tour started. The tour experience was fine.

I visited this facility

I toured Sodalis Texas City. I was a little apprehensive that it seemed like it was small, which is kind of a plus and a minus. I think they would have a better level of care, depending on how big their staff is. But I'm also wondering what kind of social activity they have with the people that are there. The place was clean, and overall it looked like a good place. The studio that I saw was pretty much like one big room with an area for a chair, seats, a big closet, and a bathroom. They showed me a couple of family sections, the kitchen, and family areas. They were going through some upgrades, so it would be interesting to see the finished product. The staff members that I met seemed pretty cordial and open. I didn't see very many activities going on.

Elmcroft of the Mainland seemed like a pretty decent community. It was just a very old building. You can tell it needed some updating and renovations. The room that we saw that was staged looked nice, but the other room that we saw looked run down and needs a facelift. Everybody that we met did a great job. They answered all the questions I had. We didn't get to eat any of the food. The dining area looked like an actual restaurant. We were there a little bit after lunchtime, so everybody was just done eating. I didn't see any activity going on, but they have puzzle games, they do daily exercises, and they have an in-house therapist, which is good. The staff during the tour did a great job. He can answer every question you have. The place needs some upkeep and needs to be painted. The rooms weren't in the best shape. It's a 30-year-old facility and is due for a remodel. I think all the facilities are running into the same issue. They're very short on people there. There's a lot of vacancies. You don't see a whole lot of people there because a lot of their rooms are empty.

I was pretty well satisfied with Elmcroft of the Mainland. The man I was with was really nice, and he answered all my questions. I had passed by it several times, and I never paid that much attention to it, but it's bigger than what I thought it was. It's older, but it's kept up pretty nice. The room that I was looking at was laid out pretty nicely. The staff said that they will rearrange things if you need. It's an older division, but it had really nice homes in it, and there is a church on the other side of it. It was kind of off in a corner by itself. The man who took me through the tour was pretty informative, and he did a really good job.

Our tour was so informative and pleasant. The living spaces are nice, spacious and roomy. I was surprised that there were several options. Our tour was the most professional and helpful one of the day.

I'm pleased with Elmcroft of the Mainland and I'm glad my father's there. We furnished his room. The staff is very friendly, and they have staff members that have a long tenure there. I like the way they engage and interact with the residents. The dining area is clean, and the food looks appetizing. He eats three meals a day and snacks. I ate there today and the fried zucchini was a little bit bland, but the ribs were very good, and they provide other food options. They have a full calendar of activities, ice cream socials, bingo, riddles, brain teasers, and field trips.

My mom is now a resident of Elmcroft of the Mainland and our experience has been fine so far. The rooms are OK, although they need a little updating. They have several groups that come in to sing with the residents, do talks, and basically do little shows for them. They also have crafts and other things, and they also take them on outings to different places, including to eat outside. They provide three meals a day, plus they have a snack tray out for them. They have a beauty salon as well. The staff is very nice and concerned about their guests; they're very attentive. What stood out to me is the fact that the place is very clean and the employees are long-term. My mother seems to like their food as well.

Cost continued to go up without warning sometimes. We got a call one day that grandma had been dropped off at the hospital and left there with no one from the facility staying with her. She had dementia so she could have just walked off. When we got there, it took us 45 minutes, she was in the ER sitting alone. The ER nurse said they had lost her earlier. She went to the restroom and did not know how to get back! The restroom was literally tight around the corner from her ER bed but she could not find it. Luckily she just sat down in a wheelchair near by until someone came looking for her. She could have walked out the door, alone. Someone should have stayed with her until we got there. I would Never do that to someone's mother! She had a cat and the cats tooth became infected. Instead of calling us they took the cat to an animal hospital. The animal hospital called us and we had to pay over $500 to get the cats teeth taken care of. I would like to have been given the opportunity to pick the cat up and take it to our vet. But no one called. Then the sad day came when we got the call that she would not make it through the day. As soon as she passed we were given 24 hours, until 5pm the next day, to get All things removed form the room or they would charge us for every day we did not remove it. It was like saying, "Thanks for all of the extream amount of money you spent with us over the last three years but now you need to get the heck up out of here". Forget the fact that we just lost our mother and grandma or that we have to make all of these funeral arrangements. Make calls to family members, newspaper for the obituary, funeral home, etc. It's exhausting enough without the added pressure of now having to find a trailer, moving boxes, someone to help lift the items, and find a place to store all of it in 24 hours. I totally get that they will need to make room for someone else's loved one. But a little sensitivity and a little more time would have been nice. Our last impression of the place was, "thanks for dropping by but don't let the door hit you on the way out". Not a good feeling when we are already going through so much. If you choose this place for your loved one just keep this in mind. They never mistreated her and the facility was always clean. But in the end it is a business and it's all about the money.

Provider Response

Trish, we are sorry to hear that this has been a negative experience for you. Our mission is dedicated to enriching the lives of the individuals who live and work with us. Elmcroft of the Mainland was very good. It was very nice, and my friend liked it very much. She said the food was good. She was pretty pleased with it. She was anxious to go back there. She had a little studio apartment, and she liked it a whole lot. They allowed pets. She had a little kitchen area. It did not have a stove, but you could put your microwave there if you wanted and a little refrigerator. It had a living area where you could place a sofa and a couple of chairs. It had two big closets, and I was impressed with that. It had a handicapped bathroom. The dining room seemed to be very nice. They had activities and things to do. They took them to grocery stores with their own little bus.

My grandmother was in Elmcroft, and the service was great. Everybody was very nice, warm, and welcoming. The location was fine. She participated in the activities. When I went there, they were having kind of a luau, and they were making little boats, probably just to keep them busy. We had a dinner there, and the food was OK.

Elmcroft is a nice place, but the rooms are too small. The staff was very nice, very helpful, and willing to talk. They had 2 or 3 different activities going on when we walked through the facility. They were doing table games. The activity girl was very engaged and involved.

My parents like the staff at Elmcroft of the Mainland, but the rooms were dated. They needed to be remodeled. They were just dark, and my parents didn’t like that. I like its proximity to where we live, and they had a good staff. It seemed like everybody was really nice.

Elmcroft was very neat and clean. The caregivers are very friendly, and the room that she was in was very clean and well-decorated. The food was good, and the grounds were well-kept. It’s fairly close to where we live, and it would be a great choice for our relative. The staff was great, and the facilities were very nice. It was one of the better companies that I visited.

Elmcroft of the Mainland was nice, but it was an older building, seemed a little dark, and the rooms were smaller. The staff was very friendly and helpful; we didn't have any problems with them at all. The dining area seemed like a nice, open place to eat. I suggest they make it more modern on the inside because it looked really old.
