Promise Pointe at Tampa Oaks

Promise Pointe at Tampa Oaks is five years old. It's bright, airy, sunny and happy. I was very impressed with that. It's a little bit higher class of people. They're more golf course people. They were a little bit better dressed. They were out and about. They had just finished an exercise class, and they were going to do a pumpkin decorating in the afternoon. It was beautiful. The problem with that one was you had to walk five miles to smoke. That was the biggest downfall of that whole place. Nevertheless, it was very inviting, and the facilities were nice. The staff who gave us the tour had been there since day one. He was very happy there. He loved the people. He knew everything about it. He could answer any question. He was very good, and I didn't feel like he was trying to sell me anything. The studios were all about the same amount. They're all between 335 and 355 square feet at every place I looked. But this one had a little bit nicer kitchen area than the one at the other place. The bathroom was good, too. It had a nice closet. They had a hair salon. There were several game rooms and several family rooms. In the lobby, there was a seating area, so you didn't have to entertain in your room.

I toured Promise Pointe at Tampa Oaks. I like the fact that there were two levels of memory care. They have standards and Bridges for the two levels of care. The room they showed us was empty. It looked clean, but there wasn't a whole lot of space. The other thing that I liked was that it had a window. The staff who toured me was very informative and warm. I connected with him. I appreciated his knowledge, expertise, and patience. I sat down and ate lunch.

My aunt moved into Promise Point at Tampa in November. The place is really beautiful. The food is good. We like everything about it, that's why we chose it. We kind of went and looked around, and that was the nicest place that we saw. It is modern and well-kept. The staff is friendly. We've had good arrangements with the administration and they've been very courteous in helping us do what we needed to do. They took the residents on outings. They play cards, and they bring in service dogs. The sitting room is beautiful where they can come out and have coffee while watching TV. We searched around and at the price that we could afford, everything else was much higher.

My family member was a resident at PP, on the ALF side, when the place was first opened. Back then it was run by the original manager who was a caring person, and PP seemed to be a great place-all new, clean, and beautiful. The level of care and concern for residents and their families was great. When COVID hit, all staff were concerned for the health and mental welfare of the residents. They immediately went into lockdown. Residents were kept in isolation for protection. However things got hard for management, and before long the manager left. Since then PP has not been the same. The new management has not been as successful as they would like to think. From my own experience, communication with family members is inconsistent and at times non existent. Many personal items belonging to my family member have disappeared. Due to COVID they are always understaffed which is why my family member, and Im sure others have fallen. As they reopened, I saw that my family member's unit wasn't messy, but filthy at times and infested with bugs, crawling up and down the door frames. This as due to trash being left behind and not removed in a timely fashion, and the floors not being spill free. Now my family member has moved to Memory Care side and needs much more assistance with self care, and shows signs of confusion at times. The Memory Care at PP is far more isolating than the ALF during the pandemic. Residents due not have access to telephones (regular landline) unless they use a cell phone (which is extremely difficult now and requires some tech savvy which my family member no longer has, and which was an item that "got lost" in the ALF right before COVID hit. It truly saddens me that not one staff member can return a phone call or make it possible for me to speak to my family member. Myself as well has another family member wants PP to be our family members forever place.... Truly... many things to think about.

My mom was placed in the memory care of Promise Pointe at Tampa Oaks. They're very good. I go over there and visit her and everybody is really professional. It's a good area that's very clean, it's a really secure area, and they seem to have a good amount of staff there, from what I can see, that takes care of the patients. She's been in there for a little bit now, and it seems like they're doing a very, very good job. They kind of let them make their own friends, it's not like they keep them isolated. They're all in their very nice community area. We had a discussion about the things that she's fond of and she likes, so she has a dietitian, so they have certain things that they give her, and certain things that they can't, and she looks healthy, so I'm pleased with it. They do mental stimulation and all that stuff, they have nice big tables, and they've got an area where they're grouped together, and they do puzzles. It's expensive, but for the money I think it's worth every penny.

We went to the Promise Pointe at Tampa Oaks. It was very nice, and was 8 miles from her sister. The views out their windows were beautiful. On each floor they had really nice, open reading rooms that you could go in and read or play a game. I asked them to think about the last state inspection, and it was perfect. She said they have never had anything bad. Their rooms were bigger and nicer than the other place. You have a choice of meals, and I like that very much. They have crafts, bingo, and movies.
