I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My mother-in-law moved into The Residence at Pearl Street 2 weeks ago. She is very comfortable and very happy there. So far, they're doing a nice job. It's a very beautiful and clean place. It was a former school, which they've done over. On the inside, they have a lot of really nice common areas with television or tables for playing cards. They have a big and beautiful dining room with sunny windows. They also have daily and weekly activities, including going shopping which they do once or twice a week. She's been able to attend church services. Right now, they're doing it televised in the residence. And then someone brings over communion for them, which is nice. She has a studio apartment with a full bathroom and a little kitchenette that has enough room for a table and two chairs, a 2-burner stove, a refrigerator, and a sink. She has a big common room that's large enough for her bed, a chair, a TV, and a big walk-in closet. They offer meals there - breakfast, lunch, and dinner. But she can make herself food if she wants to. They have a beauty salon and a library, and there are washers and dryers on site. Since it's assisted living, there is an attendant that comes by every day if you need someone to help you with your medication. They bring people in to do various things like music. My mother-in-law was telling me that they had someone playing the piano and they were playing music from the 40s and 50s. She says the food is good, but she doesn't rave about it.

My mother-in-law is in The Residence at Pearl Street. They have good assistance that she needs daily, which is the main thing right now. She's only been there a couple of weeks. They have Bingo and different entertainers come in. We're still trying to get her to do all of those things because it's something she's not used to. They have three meals a day and snacks available. We haven't needed to get transportation to the doctor, though it is offered. They do housekeeping and laundry for the sheets and towels once a week and they have a hairdresser that comes in. You can get podiatry and dental also. They go shopping and grocery shopping, and they will take them for a meal at a restaurant. She does have assistance. She is in a wheelchair and she gets help bathing, getting dressed in the morning and at night, they take her downstairs to her meals, and anytime I email or call, they're very responsive.

Our mother, Liuda, moved to the Reflections Memory Care at the Residence at Pearl Street April 2016 from a nearby rehab. The staff there explained things in a way that was easy to understand. They kept us informed about her condition and always treated Mom with respect. When Mom insisted on staying in bed all the time, it was the staff that finally convinced her to attend cooking classes, exercise time and weekly trips on the bus to get an ice cream or go on a picnic at a local park or just take a ride on a rainy day. Mom also enjoyed all the meals there and the beautiful outdoor garden filled with flowers. She felt like she was treated like a queen. Unfortunately Mom only lived in Reflections for five months before passing. The staff gave her the quality of life and care that was exceptional and support for the family.

I visited this facility

I liked The Residence at Pearl Street, but the price was outrageous. For a one-bedroom apartment, it was $6,000 a month and a studio was $5,500 a month. The staff was fantastic. They had housekeeping and everything that I would want. I can’t say anything bad about them.

I visited this facility

We're very familiar with Longwood because it was our backyard for 50 years. We all went to school there, myself and my siblings and now my kids all went there. It's now turned into from an elementary school to an assisted living but very limited assistance. It is less expensive and they have a wonderful, wonderful dining room but I don't think that they have an activity schedule. I would say sanitation was top notch. We have many friends that are there and they are all pretty pleased with it. I've only visited a couple of people there but I would say that the 1-bedrooom apartments are probably a little larger.

Longwood Place was nice and had just been renovated. It was very clean. The staff was very welcoming. They seemed pleasant and knowledgeable. They had a lot of activities and they had game rooms. However, you had to pay $3,000 before you could go in.

I visited this facility

I went to visit this facility quite a few times and saw that the landscape has pretty flowers and very well maintained. The staff is friendly and helpful when I went inside for an interview at the dining hall. The dining area is very professional with white napkins and very nice dishes which looks like a very nice restaurant. There was a very large living room area where were people singing patriotic songs and playing the piano, remembering veterans... There was another quiet seating area where people were talking or reading, like a library. Every area of the assisted living area was very well maintained, orderly, and clean. I have a friend who liked the facility so much that she has signed her mother-in-law up to live there. They also have days where they have a van that goes shopping and to the mall. Of course, they have their own private room with porches and itis like an apartment like setting. The staff are friendly and there are many activities for the elderly to be involved in.In my personal opinion and when I have to be in an assisted liviing facility,I would prefer a gym with lots of things to do.like racquetball, basketball, swimming pool area because it is important to keep active. However, there are activities at the Senior Center in Reading like yoga, Rumba dancing, etc... they have activitiesona dai,y basis at the Senior Center as well. Overall, this is a really nice place and large facility, caring and well maintained facility.
