The tour experience at Cristwood Park and The Courtyard was wonderful, I thought it was beautiful and very well laid out. They had a lot to offer, but the prices were just too high. The rooms were good, decent-sized, and they offered full kitchens. They had a library and garden, and certain areas you want to go with your dog are ok, as long as you clean up. I was very sold, and then we tried to figure out the cost and just couldn't make that work. And unfortunately, the ones that were more in her price range offered far less, especially than we're getting now. And it was quite a waitlist. It was clean, it was well- maintained, and had a nice layout.

Provider Response

Dear Colleen, Thank you for the feedback you shared. I passed along your compliments to our nursing staff. I agree, our staff is amazing; works very hard; and cares deeply about our residents. Blessings, Carolyn

I went to look at Cristwood Park and the Courtyard. I like the facility. It is very beautiful, but I did not see much diversity among the people that were there in the community. The staff was informative but not sensitive to the questions around diversity. They seemed like they didn't understand the importance of diversity. For my relative, that's a necessary component of what we're looking for. The rooms were nice. The menu looked very amenable. They had good amenities. When you describe the living atmosphere without diversity, I would say that would be limited for comfort.

Provider Response

Cristwood Park and The Courtyard have a good variety of apartments. I like all the greenery there. They have trails that you can go to. I have a religious background, but they're not inclusive with regard to gender and LGBTQ, so we struck that off our list. I can understand their values, but they believe that there's a marriage between a man and a wife. The new administration is more conservative than the one that they had before. We want something that's more welcoming both to staff and to residents. Unfortunately, that has come off our list. However, they have a whole refrigerated area where you can get salads or beverages. We picked a salad and a beverage which were complimentary, and that was nice. I haven't seen that in any other senior living community.

We liked that Cristwood Park had a pool, a restaurant-like dining room, and nice facilities. They had a gym, a pool, two separate facilities for arts and crafts, and lots of activities scheduled. The staff was super friendly and helpful. The apartments were large and nice. It was a lovely place. It was well-maintained and clean. The residents seemed very happy. Everybody was really friendly. It was the only facility my mom saw, and she knew right away that it was the place for her.

The facilities were great and consistent. What is most impressive is the care from the staff. Our mother fell, broke her hip, and was in the hospital for 3 weeks. She ran out of money, received help from the Good Samaritan Fund, and was welcomed back to Crista after being turned down by her insurance to go to a Rehab facility. When she left Crista, she was at the lowest level of care. When she returned, she was at the highest level of care! Crista took her back despite the difference and she went back on to Hospice. Both Crista and Hospice have worked together to give her the best care we could imagine. We are thoroughly impressed with their caring spirit and consistent direct care. Thank you to the Head Nurse, Tirunesh, Grace, and many others who serve the residence for allowing her to come back in and for the gracious gift of the Good Samaritan Fund to allow her to stay. She is likely days away from transitioning to her next life, but we are grateful children. Thank You Staff!

Cristwood Park has been wonderful. They're a very open and welcoming community. There's a lot of activities that my mom has participated in over the years. When my mom first moved in, she was a lot more mobile and was able to do more and go more places. Now she would have to move to a different building for assisted living. My family and I have not been very happy with what we've seen at the assisted living. It's set up a lot differently. We've just decided to look elsewhere for that care for her, but we've had a very good experience with the staff. The food has been OK. Over the course of ten years, they've gone through a lot of different chefs; some some of them have been better than others. She hasn't complained too much about the food though. It's actually been pretty good. The community is a lot bigger, and they keep it up very well. They have a very nice cafe on the first floor when you walk in, where residents can go and buy all sorts of different things and food. It's very nice.

The rooms were nice and the amenities were nice. I am disappointed with the care my grandmother received during this pandemic while she was on hospice. I witnessed a nurse care for my grandmother without her mask on, which put myself, family and other residents at risk. I recommend the facility ensure all employees understand and follow COVID protocols to minimize the risk to residents and family members visiting residents on hospice.

Wonderful place! Caring and competent staff who go out of their way to make my father feel comfortable and welcome and safe. From chatting informally to checking medicines to providing activities and day trips to checking in with me about his needs, the Courtyard staff has been fabulous. Dad is very happy there, and we could not have made it through a difficult time without their kindness and support. He had a choice to move in with a family member, but he wanted to stay at Cristwood. He loves the community of people, and he especially enjoys the dining room and the meal selections.

Absolutely horrendous care for my grandmother. We had family members around the clock to stay with her because it was necessary to ensure they properly cared for her. We made them aware of bed sores that were forming and they did nothing about it themselves. They wouldn't listen to us, they just dismissed our concerns and my grandmother developed a weeping sore that was painful and infected. One night a nurse tried to give her medication while I was keeping watch and I did not recognize the pills so I asked her to double check that they were the correct ones. The nurse told me not to question her ability to the job and insisted she knew what she was doing. I asked her the name of the medication and when she told me, I told her that's not my grandmothers. She got snotty with me and again said she knew what she was doing and that I wasn't a nurse. Thing is, I spent multiple years caring for my grandmother in her home. I know her meds. After insisting that my grandmother would not be taking the meds the nurse was trying to administer, the nurse finally gave in and double checked only to find that they were NOT my grandmother's. If I wasn't there, my grandmother could have died from taking another patient's medication. On top of this, my grandma was rightfully scared of being picked up and moved around by strangers while recovering from her bed wound. She was lifted without compassion or consideration and jostled around regularly as if she was an inanimate object being loaded onto a freight palette. DO NOT LEAVE YOUR FAMILY ALONE AT CRISTA SENIOR LIVING.

In 10 years of caring for both my parents, I found that the most important factor is not how a community looks, what amenities they offer like looking for a hotel. It is about the the service for our loved ones, their safety and care that is truly #1 at Crista. They have been updating their facilities and programs which is great but it is the staff from the intake people, reception, nurses, caregivers, facilities handy people, all of them that made it a place that I couldn't have done without! They are the best both in the Asst living (1 yr) and Memory care (2 yr). Thanks for everything Crista!

Crista is very expensive, but our visit was very good. The rooms were very nice and adequate in size. They serve two meals. They take bus tours, and they have a puzzle room and reading room. It's a very nice facility. The person who showed me around was very knowledgeable, friendly, and had a very nice presentation.

The Courtyard at CRISTA was a much bigger place than other facilties. It's part of a campus that has a rehabilitation center, a school, and a variety of other things. It's part of a ministry. They had several buildings and the assisted living place was pretty good. It seemed more institutional, and a little less comfortable, and social, which I think is partly because it's a much older facility. They have all the standard things like meeting places, a TV room, a game room, and a very large chapel -- because it's a Christian-run organization -- but they sometimes use it as a multipurpose room. It's very hard to find parking there.

CRISTA Senior Living is right across from CRISTA Ministries. The general appearance was fine, but I was not impressed with the way the staff interacted with the residents or the residents' families. The dining area looked fine. There were people walking around. They had a fundraiser going on in the parking lot where they had food and stuff, and people were milling around and enjoying that. The bureaucracy of the paperwork needs to be streamlined. The staff needs to be better informed about where the residents are and why they are where they are.

My mother-in-law settled in Crista. She lived there for 15 years, and she just moved across the street because she needs more care. It is very nice place. It is a Christian organization. They have lots of activities. They have good food. The care goes from totally independent to all the way to the end if needed. I have been there many times. They have sing-a-longs, bingo, and luxurious trips. They take them places. They take them to church and to shopping. I have eaten there many times, and they have very good food.

I haven't moved in yet, but I have found Crista in Shoreline. It is an independent living, then it goes to assisted living, and then to goes to medical care. It is a long term kind of commitment. I haven't moved in there yet, but the people that I talked to say it is a wonderful place to live. It is convenient to my family, it is reasonably priced, and I think I will be happy there. I spent the night there, and they put me in a two bedroom which is too much for me. I needed a one-bedroom. I guess I could use another room for an office and for my computer, but other than that, a one bedroom is ample. I live in an apartment anyway, so it is just like going to another apartment. They gave me a handout with the monthly events for the whole month of February for instance. They have all the activities for the whole month. I'm going to be very busy. Crista is a Christian owned group, and it is non-profit.

CRISTA Senior Living offers different levels of care from independent to skilled nursing. Their staff is caring. Their food is not fancy, but it's nutritious and served by many caring staff. The rooms are of varied sizes, and it's an older building. They are very clean, and it never smelled like anything. They offer a lot of activities. They encourage residents to participate. They also have transportation that takes the residents to the drugstores or to places.

My great grandmother, a woman who spent her lifetime serving as a missionary in Africa, lived in skilled nursing until she passed away. Our family was very happy with her care. All the workers are people of faith and it reflects in their care for the residents. I like the fact that they have all levels of care on one campus and offer a low income alternative for seniors who have run out of funding. This is the best option in the area for anyone who wants to live in a faith-based environment.

I believe Crista Senior Living does an adequate job of caring for it's residents. My grandmother lived her last five years in this Christian-oriented facility, and I was pleased with the care they provided her. Crista employees were familiar with most residents, though were not overly personable or welcoming. It seemed they were working only to the extent that their job required, but I was happy to see they were doing so with smiling faces and welcoming hellos. Overall I would rate Crista Senior Living as adequate.
