Bentley Suites by Serenity Care Health

I was disappointed with Bentley Suites by Serenity Care Health. It looked to me like it was a converted apartment building into a home and it was just very small, almost depressing. I didn't like it, but the lady was very nice. The staff seemed like they were friendly. They were mostly out in the courtyard. I was on the second floor because I had to go down some stairs and they don't have an elevator, but they have a lift that takes people up and down. Their TV room was small. Their kitchen was moderate. It was a humble place, but it was almost too dark. I went about 11:00 and it just seemed the sun was being blocked, probably because of the ginormous buildings around the place. It didn't seem very, very warm, but it was OK. It's kind of pricey because it's Santa Monica, but for the extra thousand, I'll send Mom to the other facility instead.

Bentley Suites was not acceptable to my friend. The rooms were not good. They did have activities, but it was a very small place, and it was expensive. The dining area wasn't fantastic, but it was alright. However, the staff members were very accommodating. Cleanliness was near the top, but not quite. One of the problems with this though -- as with many of the other communities -- is that they didn't separate the Alzheimer's people. They had the residents sort of in the same area.

Bentley Suites wasn’t the right fit for my parents. It’s kind of like a halfway house, not assisted living that would be proper for my father who has Parkinson’s. They’re going through renovation so it looks terrible from the outside but it’s like an old apartment building. There are maybe 16 units and the kitchen is in the back. Some of the windows are bordered up right now. My parents live close by so it would have been a convenient area. The residents there can get on the bus that stops right in front. They seem to be happy but I feel that they are in a different position than where my dad is and what my dad needs.

Bentley Suites seemed to be very good and seemed to be an excellent group. The location is fantastic. The administration seems good to excellent. It’s a very positive thing. The price is right for the services. However, my girlfriend’s father does not like the meals all that much.
