The average monthly cost for assisted living in the SLO CAL area is $5,800, which is $1,500 more per month than the national average of $4,300. The average for assisted living per month in California is $5,000, $800 a month less than SLO CAL. This amount is a reasonable increase based on the many benefits SLO CAL offers seniors.

The Cost of Assisted Living in Nearby Cities

Almost 95 miles to the east of SLO CAL and on the other side of the Coastal Mountains is Bakersfield, a more densely populated city. The monthly average for assisted living in Bakersfield is $3,613, much lower than the average for SLO CAL. The trade-off is being far from the coast and all the small-town amenities of San Luis Obispo County. North of Bakersfield and northeast of SLO CAL is Hanford averaging similar costs as Bakersfield at $3,975 a month. South of SLO CAL is Santa Maria, a smaller city with assisted living costs averaging $5,000 monthly and just south of Santa Maria is Oxnard averaging higher at $5,845. Venturing to the north of SLO CAL, seniors have choices for assisted living in Salinas. Still, the monthly average for assisted living is very high, at $7,100. Salinas has a very high cost of living.

Ombudsmen seek to create an atmosphere of respect and diversity as they support senior’s sexual orientation, gender expression, race, age, culture, disability and spiritual beliefs. The organization offers services by advocating for seniors in long-term care communities, investigating complaints and assisting seniors with paperwork. Central Coast Commission for Senior Citizens-Area Agency on Aging(805) 925-9554The Central Coast Commission for Senior Citizens is the Area Agency on Aging (AAA) for SLO CAL. This nonprofit agency provides an Aging Network including the federal Administration on Aging (AOA) and the California State Department of Aging. These groups along with the Central Coast Commission for Senior Citizens assist seniors with services such as aging information and referrals, transportation services, legal help, elder abuse prevention and includes the Long-Term Care Ombudsman.
