I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

I have a friend who's in St. Paul's Villa right now and the community is excellent there. They're having a few staffing problems. They're having problems with help; it keeps changing and some of them don't always know what they're doing because they haven't been trained. And she also said that the food from when she moved in there, the level of the food, and the quality of the food has gone down quite a bit. They have movie nights where you go in and they all watch older movies that are from the 40s and 50s. They have sing alongs, and they get together and play games. As far as activities, they probably have more activities than the other place I toured, so if you're an active senior, it's an excellent place to be because it's very social. I wish they had a little more outside areas, but basically, this facility is really very good. In terms of value for the money, it costs a bit more.

I visited this facility

St. Paul's Villa appears run down, and there were repairs that needed to be made. Some of the staff members were indifferent. We saw a separate room with a shared bath. The dining room was quite nice. They had it setup for a fiesta day with a Mexican theme. It was cute.

I visited St. Paul's Villa, and it was really nice. I liked it, the staff was very nice. I dropped in without an appointment, and they showed us the whole place. They had a variety of shared rooms, and also private rooms. They were having a music activity when I was there.

St. Paul's Villa was older, neat, and clean, but you have to park far away. It's close to downtown and shopping and restaurants. I had a good lunch there. They had a room where you could have parties, a nice weight lifting room, and a dog park. They had good-sized rooms.

I visited this facility

I was not impressed at all with St. Paul's Villa. I did not like it because there wasn't an outside area at all, the bathrooms were not accessible, and it just didn't feel welcoming. The staff was nice and welcoming, but the place did not feel vibrant. It felt old, the people there did not seem happy, the rooms did not feel nice, and the views were horrible. I thought their price was more than what we would expect for what we saw.

I visited this facility

St. Paul?s Villa was very nice but a little expensive. To me, the residents' rooms were large and had private bathrooms, but they also appeared dark. I felt that it did not look like it was designed for memory care, and if my father was more social and more independent, this place would have been more appropriate.

The person who I knew there at St Paul's Villa had two rooms, which were connected. She had two bathrooms, two kitchens, a sitting room, and a bedroom. She was a little bit better able to care of herself. It was pretty large and very secure. They had bus trips, recreation rooms, and three meals a day, and you could bring a guest in. It was very pleasant.

I visited this facility

St. Paul’s Villa was very pleasant and nice. I am very impressed with the people there, and also they have a lovely restaurant which is always nice; you don’t have to cook for yourself if you don’t want to. They were all very nice people; I just can’t afford it. The place was very clean; it was like living in a 5-Star hotel. It was really lovely. I am very susceptible to bad odors; it was very clean and no smell. The atmosphere was very friendly.

I thought the staff of St. Paul Senior Homes and Services was very accommodating. Elizabeth -- their admissions director -- actually met with me on a Saturday morning, so that was really convenient for me. For someone who needs a weekend appointment, sometimes it is really hard to get, but she is there on a weekend -- which is great -- and you can really walk around. She gave me a great tour. I just thought it was a terrific experience. They have independent and assisted living as well as skilled nursing and hospice care, so it is really total care, which is really nice not to have to move your parent around too much. They have a salon, and they have non-denominational worship services onsite. They have a piano in the assisted living, so they have music and a piano player comes in to the large entertainment room. There is private outdoor space like a courtyard in both the villa and the manor, which is nice. The location is also great. It is a walking distance from Balboa park and to museums, and the airport is five minutes away if a guest is flying in to see a relative.

I am a friend or relative of a resident

I already placed my husband in St. Paul's Villa (St. Paul Senior Homes and Services). He has been there for a month now. I'm happy with the facility, and I think my husband is beginning to settle in pretty well. He seems to be doing well, and I'm pleased with the care he is getting. I felt that all of the people that I talked with and I had dealings with were very caring and helpful. They wanted to assist me in whatever they could. They're very giving of their time in explaining things. So I was pleased with all of the people that I worked with there. Everything is always very clean every time I go in. I check my husband's room, his bathroom, and his clothes, and everything is always neat, tidy, and clean. His laundry is done every week. It is clean and well taken care of. It is an older facility, but it is kept up very well. My husband seems to participate in everything. They have things going on all the time. He seems to enjoy going to all of them, particularly the music program that they have. It is a really nice place. It is an urban facility, and there are no grounds or gardens. They do go out walking everyday, but they walk just in the neighborhoods, but they did take them to parks for picnics.

St. Paul's Senior Homes is in a multi-story building. I liked it very much, and I was impressed by the people there. It's nice but it's also an assisted living facility. The people in memory care are locked in their floor and they can't come down.

Step grandmother was staying here on a temporary basis until moving her to arizona. She was in need of help due to a fall during last feburary and severe dehydration, while living here she had been receiving physical therapy but not through this facility directly. The location was clean, maintenance staff, clerical (receptionist) was friendly and guided my family and I to her quarters quickly and promptly with a smile. There was a large public cafeteria but I hadn't explored all the amenities, I knew there was a game room and that is about all. It didn't seem like an abusive facility like many other senior homes appear to be, but then again I wasn't the one living there.

I visited this facility

While my family and I were considering moving to California, we visited various facilities and St. Paul Senior Homes and Services was one of the facilities we ended up touring. Because my grandfather wasn't too comfortable with the idea of moving out of our home, St. Paul's outstanding and generous employees informed us of their St. Pauls PACE program. The program offered us a way for my grandfather to live at home while a caregiver would come to our own home and give him medications, check ups, prepare meals, and care for him in a way that our family sometimes would be unable to do because of schooling and work. Although we decided against moving to California (and staying in Arizona), the outstanding staff and volunteers of St. Pauls really extended a helping hand to us and assured us that if my grandfather were to be part of their program, that he would be in great hands. We had no doubts of that and there was an instant trust between our family and their employees. We loved the idea of the living at home, and while we decided to stay in Arizona, I definitely would recommend St. Pauls to anyone living in the San Diego, California area because from my familys experience, we definitely loved it. The best part is that we were able to donate money to their program in order to help them out, in turn of them helping us out as well. Definitely 5 stars!
