I am/was a resident of this facility

I have just become a resident of Arnold House, and I often asked for help and found that all employees were quick to assist me or find someone who could and often asked later if all went well.

I visited this facility

I've gone to Airforce Village I several times. The staff were all really nice and friendly. We've had meetings there and I've been invited a lot over so that they could talk to us about different things. The rooms are very small. You don't make your own meals. You end up going down to the restaurant on the first floor and eat all your meals.

I know you have to dress up or to be in decent clothes to have supper at the big dining room. But you can go to a cafeteria, too. You can wander around do what you want, but I just have more freedom and more space in my home. I like it because it's closer to town. I wanted to get into the new units that they built because it had more room and storage, but I don't have near enough money.

I visited this facility

The staff was very friendly at Air Force Village. But San Antonio gets hot in the summer.

I am a friend or relative of a resident

I really liked the building. It is a highrise with 3 restaurants. The sky lounge on the 15th floor was for fancy dinners and Sunday brunch, it required formal attire. Then there was a restaurant on the first floor (like a TGIF or Chili's in style), and then another restaurant that was cafeteria style. There were nice work out amenities, a weekly newsletter was clipped to my dad's door with the weekly activities, if new people moved in, social events. I thought that the staff seemed a little burned out, maybe they are not paid enough to take care of all of these old people that can be a bit difficult at times. I think the pay should be higher in order to get better employees, but the rest of this facility was great. My dad bought 2 apartments, he knocked out the wall between the two and he has a larger, airer space. They are trying this new concept of combining 2 side by side apartments into one, and adding more modern amenities. I was really happy that this is where my dad moved to, it doesn't feel like an old folks home, it feels modern and hip, it has a lot of fun social activities, it offers them a reason to get dressed up and mingle. They all wore name tags whenever they were in the restaurant or when they leave their room - so it makes it easier for them to recognize each other. The restaurant had nice pastries that my dad could take up to his kitchenette. He likes a slice of cake at night. They also had a nice welcoming committee made up of the older, yet mentally there residents that could help my dad get involved with his new surroundings.
