Menorah Plaza is huge. They have a lot of staff. They've always got people there that are competent to do whatever needs to be done, which I love. They put a lot of effort into making it a nice place for your parents to relax, enjoy and socialize. The staff who gave the tour went way above and beyond. I would give them top marks for that. One of the things I liked was, they have a lot more medical staff there than some of the smaller places that couldn't afford to do that, so I liked that. I liked that they had a lot of events, and they had a lot going on. This is a much bigger community and there are advantages and disadvantages to that, but it's very nice. They have kind of like an age-in-place thing where you start with independent living, and if you need assisted living, you just move across to the next building, which is connected by a heated tunnel, and then suddenly you're in assisted living. I like that. I felt like they had probably the best medical options that I wanted because my in-laws need that. It's gorgeous.

Other

Menorah Plaza is an excellent choice for those with low incomes. The apartments are comfortable and cozy. We had a one bedroom but I believe they offer 2-bedrooms as well. The building itself is spacious with lots to do including a large dining area where meals are served as well as a small gift store with toiletries and snacks. We also thought it was great that they had their own physical therapy room for folks in need of that service. We took comfort knowing that there was a controlled buzz in access system for security purposes. Activities are engaging and there are always events happening which is great! Finally we would like to thank the staff who were great and accommodating. You can certainly tell that staff care for the tenants. There are not many options like Menorah Plaza in the cities and everything they offer. Our experience was great and we would certainly recommend it to anyone interested.

This is a great option for folks with lower incomes and need a comfortable apartment home. There are very few options in the twin cities that offer the programming and support that the team at Menorah Plaza offers its tenants. Our experience was very positive and we would recommend Menorah Plaza to others needing this type of housing and support. The rooms are a standard HUD square footage as allowed by HUD. I think ours was 540 sq ft. There were also 2 bedroom apartments available. The staff were very accommodating and there were staff that could speak other languages to assist with those tenants of a different nationality. There is plenty of common space, there was a small convenience store and there is even a space for physical therapy if folks needed to regain strength. There were many activities and the calendar always had something going on. There was a buzz-in system so it was nice to have the added limited access entry system.

I am/was a resident of this facility

I have lived here for almost 8 years. Resident care and management have gone downhill for the past three years. Food was such a source of complaints that the menus were made optional. Many now go without proper food rather than throwing what is provided in the garbage. The insulation in this 30-year-old building is terrible. During the past several winters one is lucky to get apartment heat up to 60 degrees. The majority of the staff, all levels, do not speak English well enough to maintain a meaningful conversation. The worst problem is that the Sholom Association has been converted to a corporate-mentality business which is cutting services to make money and no longer cares about its residents. If one has a complaint, the message is, "Move out if you don't like it", To be heard, a complaint has to move in steps up a military-like chain of command, then take the same steps back down for a corporate-approved answer. This building was founded on the Jewish values of kindness and caring for the elderly. Now Sholom Corp. is a "shanda", a shame on the Jewish people of Minneapolis.

This facility was poorly managed. The staff barely speak any English and are very difficult to understand. They are inconsiderate and rude. The meals left much to be desired and usually consisted of bland sandwiches and may be a little applesauce - there was no consideration for special dietary concerns. Water was always shut off for maintenance and one time we went months without real hot water - until the city inspector threatened a visit and then the water was "magically" fixed. During a medical emergency a staff member came up to my apartment and proceeded to tell me I was okay and I should just take it easy and rest - I had excessive bleeding and was extremely dehydrated - I was able to call a friend to bring me to the ER. Their red emergency "buttons" are a joke and staff do not take them seriously. Moving out was a complete nightmare. Staff came in the middle of the movers moving my stuff out and later "fined" me for leaving stuff in the apartment and not cleaning - no other walk through was done after I had everything cleaned up when the movers were finished. Staff further went on to charge me additional fees for repainting and new carpet stating excessive damage - even though there was not a spot anywhere on the carpet. I would advise against investing time and money into renting at this facility - there are many other apartments that offer basic amenities and honestly care about their residents physical, mental and emotional well-being.

I've only been here in Menorah Plaza for about two weeks now. I've looked at several places and this one really caught my eye. I like the way it was setup. I don't feel crowded. I love my room. It's so nice and clean, they put new carpeting in, and I've got plenty of closet space. It's all been repainted. I've got two nice and bright windows. I got a nice little kitchen, with refrigerator, stove, and lots of cupboards. It really is a nice place. The people that work here are very friendly. They just help me out whenever I need it.
