Cedarfield looks great when you arrive. My mother loved it. BUT, she went there for the care she was SUPPOSED AND EXPECTED to receive when she needed help taking care of herself and medical care. Mom spoke up when she was given shotty care. She spoke up when other residents were treated terrible as well. There was not enough staff to handle that many residents “because of money”. WHAT A JOKE. The nurse gave her wrong medications, they dropped her multiple of times and she got cuts which were not taken care of. If she rang and rang to get help to the restroom, they didn’t come. My family was always there asking for better care, meetings with the head of nursing staff, to no avail. We spent so many nights and days there because of the lack of care. She got an UTI, doctor never prescribed the medication, she was dropped, we weren’t called, a friend (former nurse) dropped by to see mom and made Cedarfield take her to the hospital. She had a broken elbow. Without the meds for the UTI and the surgery for her elbow mom she never woke up. Cedarfield’s heinous lack of care is why my mother died. IF YOU WANT GOOD QUALITY OF CARE, DON’T GO THERE! They should be investigated.

We've chosen Cedarfield. It appears they have all that we need. We simply have a deposit and we know a number of couples and single people that live out there. We feel comfortable, and that is our best selection. We did see a model room of one that we would most likely want to get, and there's a good setup for what we need. The staff is friendly, courteous, and attentive. Another reason we chose it is because it's a continuing care community. We evaluated the living facilities in the future, and that is our best bet. They've continued to reach out to us before we officially joined to give us health or home discussions, and we attended one or two, but it's very nice that they reached out and sent us these letters and things.

I have family members currently living at Cedarfield. In the time of this pandemic Cedarfield especially needs to review its management polices and those leading this community. In this current acute time they are allowing residents to come and go from the facility without quarantine upon their return. They are also only supplying 1 meal per day to their independent living population while at the same time charging them 20% to do their shopping. This seems outrageous since they certainly are not providing other amenities the residents were promised from the start. As a member of the medical community myself I am aware of policies of other life care communities in the area including Lakewood Manor where 3 meals a day are being provided and residents are quarantined upon their return if they leave the campus. These most recent failures are more symptoms of developing management problems at Cedarfield over the past few years. My family have been residents for over 10 years. In the past few years Cedarfield has been on a continuous decline it seems in all areas. I have seen it in the care provided, services provided to residents that were promised at the start and especially in the quality of food services provided. Management is NOT responsive to resident complaints, but boy are they good at patting themselves on the back. Hopefully, upper management at this company will catch on soon. If you are considering Cedarfield, please compare reviews of those that are recent to those of years ago. Think over your decision carefully. It will be one for the long-term. You do not want to be in the position of seeing your relatives unhappy, feeling unseen, unheard and invisible in their senior years as I now must. This is NOT life my relatives invested their hard earned money in nor were promised.

You have no control. I have a dear friend that was in a cottage and ready for assisted living, but these “people” wanted her in memory care. There was no choice according to them. How could you put someone in memory care when they obviously weren’t ready? Why wouldn’t they Just try it? but they would not even give her a chance.There is a neurologist, a neuropsychologist, a cardiologist, and a social worker at St. Mary’s Hospital, all said she should be in assisted living, but Cedarfield wouldn’t agree. This should be an eye opener for anyone thinking of making arrangements for Cedarfield. It’s such a shame at the end of your life. My dear friend believed in Cedarfield and had lots of money and thought she would be treated humanly. I am so disappointed with what has happened here. I would never tell anyone to go to this facility. Once you have signed up for this care and given your money it is hard to change the program. If only they would have given my dear friend a chance. I am so disappointed and sad for my friend.

Hermitage at Cedarfield had all levels of care, including skilled nursing care, which a lot of communities didn't have. We also liked that it's a non-profit place. The staff members there were wonderful to work with. It's at the west end of Richmond, but the grounds were gorgeous. They had everything, including physical therapy, a nice gym, grill, library, and a pool, and they wwere also in the process of renovating. They had a new dining room that just opened up. The pricing is expensive, but it seems worth it. I found nothing at all that they could improve.

I had a luncheon meal at Hermitage and also visited a friend inside one of their villages. Everything was very nice. I will say their main building needed painting and I was not impressed with the maintenance of the place. The staff was very good and very polite. The food was also very good.
