I visited this facility
Hopkins Manor is a small community with about 45 residents. There's a lot of individual attention that's included in the price. They have a full-time pharmacy technician who takes care of all the medications for the residents. The cook is outstanding. The staff is very caring with several people on duty all night long including an assistant manager. They also have a number of staff who live in the community, so if there is a big need of help, they can mobilize their people very quickly. They have a variety of room configurations, like some people share a room and a restroom and others have a private bedroom with a bathroom and shower. It's a very caring place. They have a number of people who volunteer. A piano player comes in, another guy sings every Friday, and on Sundays, they have other entertainments. There's a professional exercise physiologist who comes in once a week who leads chair exercises, and then there's a couple of residents who lead the exercises every day. They have beauty time where they polish their fingernails, do their hair, or put on lipstick. There are a lot of little things that are really nice. It's an old house that's been converted for this purpose, so there are some navigation challenges. But the challenges are compensated by the careful attention and care given by the staff.

I am a friend or relative of a resident
Both my grandfather and great grandfather were quite sociable so they managed to stay mostly in good spirits, but I think my grandfather felt he was too young to be there and he could get quite depressed during his time there. I noticed that they were usually participating in the many events they had scheduled there though, different types of games or music events in their main living room area. The staff seemed accommodating and kind enough to the patients but my grandfather never really liked the food, he enjoyed to eat before he was living there. There were some problems with him and other patients though, some patients with dementia or another mental ailment would get into arguments with them and the workers there and put him into bad moods occasionally. It also took him a bit of time to get adjusted there, he was still quite mentally sharp, it was mostly his physical body that needed help so I think he felt that he didn't deserve to be there in a way. But the good care and atmosphere helped to alleviate that problem. Overall it seemed like a quality home.
