I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

I had a really good first impression of the personnel that we're working with at Oakdale Heights Assisted Living. I felt quite confident that they would be able to take care of my brother well. The premises felt homey and it didn't feel like a hospital and it wasn't overwhelmingly big. They kind of addressed all my concerns right away. My brother now lives in a studio there. It is fairly spacious. Even if it's the smallest space that they have available, it's got everything he needs. It has a kitchenette with lots of storage space, a little living room area, and a place that's designated for his bed and a bathroom. He needs a lot of grab bars and they have a lot of that stuff in the room as well. The dining area was really good. It's not big, so he doesn't get lost in there. He says the food is fine and he's got special dietary needs. He eats gluten-free, so they make sure that he's accommodated for that. They have a fitness program, games like bingo and such, craft activities, musicians that come in and play music for the residents, and outings periodically. It's a nice place and it's kept up very well.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My mom moved into Oakdale Heights, and she's been there two weeks. She just started with dementia, so she's at a pretty low level and she's pretty independent and mobile. It's a very friendly community with very attentive staff. There's always somebody available to talk to if anything comes up. I've worked mostly with Amber, Lacey, and Debbie, and they've all been great. And then they have a maintenance guy there that helps you move stuff in, and his name is Kirk. And they're just all great and friendly. She got to sit out in the sun yesterday, and a few of them were out in the sun and trying to enjoy that. She's had a really enjoyable day. The dining area looks good, and the food is really good. They have three chefs, but all the food's been really good. She has a typical apartment. She's doing a shared apartment with somebody else, and they have two bedrooms, a living room, and a little kitchenette with a refrigerator and microwave. They always have something going on. Once a week they go on a scenic drive in their little bus. They have an available bus and every Tuesday, the seniors, if they want to, can go for a drive. They took them out to the lake the other day just to get out and about and go around. They'll take them to doctor's appointments for you if the family can't make it to pick them up and take them, which is a nice amenity. We've used that once. They have bingo and crosswords, and they have a common area with a TV. What I liked about it is you could bring your own furniture into the apartment. That way your family member feels more at home with her own stuff. They've just been so great for us. It's just a relief to know that she's safe because we can't be with her 24 hours a day. She does have a little bit of a memory problem, and so we just feel safer with her there. It's a little bit of an older facility, but I think they're now in the process of upgrading it, so I can't wait to see when they're done.

I visited this facility

The young lady that toured us around Oakdale Heights Assisted Living was excellent, very friendly, very knowledgeable, and answered all our questions, so we appreciate her. I couldn't find a single thing I didn't like about it. We're very pleased with them. The facility was spacious, clean, and there's a lot of light. The dining room was very attractive with high ceilings and high windows. They had a beauty salon, a craft room, and a medicine room. Everything was great.

I visited this facility

We took a tour of Oakdale Heights Assisted Living for my wife, and they had a pretty comprehensive staff. They had a nurse and a nice kitchen. They had all kinds of things like hobbies, and they had quite a few people that were assisting people in the facility. They had good representation and they were not short of staff. They had a very nice layout, it was easy to get around, and had elevators for people. They also had stairs, but they had people that went and brought you down to the dining room or if you're going to hobbies. They had church services, and they bring people to that. They also had in-room services, so if you were not able to attend dining service, they had people that took stuff to you from the dining room. They had a doctor or nurse on call. They had a salon for women to get their hair done, and at a small gym. Everything was pretty much locked down. The rooms were nice, the studio apartment was nice. They had Jack and Jill bathrooms and, where you had two people in a room, it was very nice. It was a well-kept facility, and it's very close to the hospital too. The staff is very attentive. The place is very clean and very sterile. They clean everything all the time, and they have a service that cleans the rooms.

I visited this facility

I think Oakdale Heights is a pretty good facility. My mother-in-law has a beautiful room which my wife had remodeled to look just like home. But what my wife's concern is that her mother's dementia is getting worse. I think this place eventually is going to say that they can't take of her anymore. The problem is it's just an assisted living facility and not for dementia. As long as she can get around and do everything, they are not going to kick her out. But what my wife is worried about is that if her mother's dementia gets a lot worse, they're going to say we have to find somewhere else. The have a lovely dining room. I have tried the food, and it is passable. I've never had any that is good in any of those places. It is very secure. They lock the doors at 6 o'clock at night and much later during the summer. But the minute it gets dark, the doors get locked. They have night staff and so forth. The staff is absolutely great. They are doing a good job. It is a very good home.

My parents are up in Oakdale Heights. I think it is a great place. I love it. The food is good and my parents are happy there. They seem to be well cared for. I have absolutely no problem with them. I am recommending them to others.

Maybe i just haven't visited facilities for the ultra rich with 24/7 individualized care and resident gourmet chefs, but i can't think of any assisted living facility I would rate as five star. It just isn't possible for them to accommodate so many diverse needs and still provide optimally for each individual, while remaining financially feasible. I can, and do say that Oakdale does an incredible job. Over the past nine years, it provided a wonderful environment for my mom and both my in laws, with a range of problems, my mom with ongoing stability and incontinent problems, my MIL with Parkinson's, and now my FIL with progressing dementia. Through it all Oakdale has made it possible for my husband and I, as primary family caregivers, to maintain our sanity, knowing that our parents were well fed, clean, and active to the extent possible; that everything was okay if the phone didn't ring. Most importantly, they treat their residents with dignity, respect, and with a patience I wished I possessed. They treat them as individuals. My mom has now passed on, but I will never forget the joy with which she would regale me about the variety of fresh berries, her special passion, with which they presented her almost every morning. I only hope it, or a facility as caring, will be there for me.

This facility is very nice, the people are nice and all the residents seem to be happy and having a nice time. The outside as well as the inside of the facility are beautiful. They have lots of fun activities some that include Wine & Cheese Pairing, Cinema Excursion, Bingo, Bible Study, and Picnic at the Shasta Dam, just to name a few! They always have move in specials and if for some reason you cannot make it there for a tour you can take a virtual tour of the facility from there web site, and they have so many Amenities some of which include, Beauty Salon / Barber Shop, Library and Activity Room, Restaurant-Style Dining, Wood Working Shop, Scheduled Transportation, Rose Garden & Walking Path, and much much more! If you are looking for a facility for yourself or for someone you love i would say all in all this is a great place. I've been to this place on several occasions and I would definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a assisted living facility.
