My mother has been in memory care at Chestnut Knoll since April of 2023. The staff and director are thorough, very friendly, professional and most importantly, caring and respectful of the residents as they live through their dementia journey.. In addition, the staff offers the same care and support to the families of the residents.

The food is excellent and the coffee is hot. The people are great. I'll try any activity they throw at me and I go to all the exercise classes. I play all the games (as long as they're not cards). We go on trips and bus rides. I'm very happy here!

When I think of Chestnut Knoll (CK), I think of hope in a crisis. My family had a very simple plan: move Mom into a nearby care facility so we could still enjoy lots of time with her, while she would have the 24/7 care her loss of skills required. We chose a well-reviewed facility nearby. They assessed her, and while Mom was very unwilling to move, we were assured this was common and that Mom would soon adjust. Sadly, that was not our story. Shortly after move in, we received a call that we needed to move Mom out; she was not a good fit. We moved her back home and hired in-home care. That also went poorly - Mom locked out any caregivers she did not like, and we still paid for the shift. She would not accept the needed care. My siblings were not liked-minded on what to do, and it was ripping us apart and stressing out everyone, including Mom. As I called around to the area care facilities, none would take her unless she cooperated. One provider told me that unlike other facilities, CK is specifically prepared to handle dementia behaviors. When I called CK, I was very honest with Julie with what our family was dealing with. Julie gave me the first hope I had in the crisis. The first surprise was that Denise from memory care was willing to come to Mom’s house and assess her; the other places wanted us to bring Mom to them. Once CK came into our lives, they knew what to do and how to do it. Convincing Mom to drive to CK did not go well, but even then, CK had an admission plan that worked. Once Mom moved into CK, she was given the necessary attention and time to adapt. Her behaviors came around. The first time I went to see her, I visited until dinnertime, and was happily shocked when Mom wanted to join her friends at dinner rather than see me off. Here are some of the benefits of life at CK memory unit beyond 24/7 care: eating three meals a day with ability-appropriate friends; on-site dental and geriatric psychiatrist appointments, no add-on charges for incidentals like laundry, monthly dementia support group, community events on-site - Mom loved those! Mom liked the staff - they knew her by name - and also liked the food. How do you say thank you to a place that gave you your mother back? Thank you, Chestnut Knoll!

My mother was in memory care at Chestnut Knoll. From my first phone call and meeting to the days after my mother passed and we left CK, we had nothing but exceptional care. Everyone is truly caring, professional and engaged. Denise is by far the best director for memory care. We had prior experiences of care for my mom and none were of the level Chestnut Knoll provided. They consider you and your loved one as family and they become family to you. We couldn’t have asked for a better place or people to care for my mom in her final year.

A year ago my mother experienced a fall, needed physical therapy & supportive supervision. Chestnut Knoll provided the Fox Physical Therapy Program, one of the best in PA.This enabled her to have therapy on site, while dedicated staff was available to oversee her medications, provide assistance yet encourage independence/autonomy with having her own room. She quickly became engaged in activities she loves all within walking distance: crafts, church, rosary, cards, bingo, movies, town hall meetings, and weekly field trips. She reports the food is delicious, 3 meals a day every day. The staff from various roles are very dedicated to her needs. Initially she was very skeptical of leaving her home and felt loss of control. A year later, she is self sufficient, and enjoys helping other residents and staff too! The entire Chestnut Knoll community has been a positive and amazing influence on her health overall! I can’t thank everyone enough!
