I am a friend or relative of a resident

We visited Harbor Oaks and we could smell the bleach like as if they were trying to cover up the urine smell. The smell was horrible. The rooms were terrible. The furniture was falling apart. They have no nurses. I wouldn't put my dog in there.

Harbor Oaks Elderly Care Home is a full service assisted living facility that caters to a wide variety of residents. Some of our residents are completely mobile, walking with or without walkers or assistance and go out to dinner regularly or are capable of still driving. Other residents need help with medications or reminders of when activities are or when dinner is planned, and further so, some of our residents require full assistance with all activities of daily living such as bathing, walking, grooming, dressing, toileting, diapering, cleaning, food preparation, and medicine management. The average age of our residents is 78, and some our most popular activities includes bingo, sing a longs, ice cream parties, church services, pet therapy, crafts, exercise classes, movies, and more. Residents are number 1 at Harbor oaks!

What programs or activities does Harbor Oaks Elderly Care Home offer to enrich residents' well-being?

At Harbor Oaks there are a multitude of activities and events that occur every day. Each day consists of 2-4 hours of scheduled activities or events. Of course, we have bingo, which is one of our most popular activities. There are also ice cream parties, exercise classes, pet therapy sessions with dogs and cats, karaoke, sing a longs, full church services that are uni-denominational (Catholics can have "bread and wine"), card games, the "Rat Pack" Dave, movies with popcorn, birthday parties, as well as seasonal activities.

Within walking distance of our facility are shopping centers, thrift stores, the postal service, restaurants, VFW, Eagle Club, barber shops, Dollar tree, and numerous other shops for our residents to visit and enjoy. There is a public bus stop within 100 feet of our building which can be utilized to travel anywhere in the county.

What transportation services does Harbor Oaks Elderly Care Home offer to assisted living residents?

Harbor Oaks has a fully functional van to transport any resident to their desired destination. Transportation can also be arranged through the Volusia County special Votran services for residents who choose to use public transportation. The management at Harbor Oaks will complete the paperwork, at no charge, for any resident who desires this service.

What makes the chef or dining program at Harbor Oaks Elderly Care Home exceptional? What kind of menu can assisted living residents expect?

Harbor Oaks is a family run facility that has owners who are 100% Sicilian, Italian. As you might expect, food is a priority! Our meals are fantastic. We are well known in our area to have phenomenal food at every meal. We have 3 full-time professional cooks as well as us, the owners, who are also fantastic cooks. All of our food is purchased fresh and home cooked meticulously to our rigorous standards. There is a wide variety of foods that we make, including breakfast favorites such as omelets, french toast , pancakes, oatmeal and a variety of cereals, fruits, toast, danishes, and drinks. Lunches consist of home made soups sandwiches, both hot and cold, puddings, cheeses, yogurts, and a variety of vegetables. Dinners choices such as baked ziti, ham, steak, roasted chicken, shrimp alfredo, salmon, burritos, and turkey with all the fixings are a very common sight and will make your mouth water. And no one can forget our signature home made lasagna, which would make nonna proud!

How does Harbor Oaks Elderly Care Home keep residents' families informed about their loved ones?

The staff and management at Harbor Oaks strive very hard to always keep communication with our residents' and their families active and open. The staff and management are always keeping tabs on all our residents to ensure their safety and enjoyment of their lives. With simple resident checks at regular intervals throughout the day and night most issues can be prevented or resolved quickly. We also utilize cameras, alarms and other procedures to keep our residents safe and our families informed. It is our goal for our residents to enjoy the best quality of life they can, and we are happy to be apart of that.

If Harbor Oaks Elderly Care Home accepts dogs or cats, what indoor/outdoor areas can they enjoy?

Harbor Oaks loves therapy pets. Unfortunately, pets are not permitted to live at the facility. However, we do allow pets to visit their owners anytime on our patio and concourse areas. This will accommodate even the largest animals. In the past, we have had dogs, cats, gerbils, ferrets, pot bellied pigs, cows, mini-horses and full size horses at our facility. They are all welcome to visit.
