I visited this facility

Asbury Heights had everything that any other place had, probably even more. It was nice. The staff was very friendly and got to me quickly and gave me all the information I need up front without me having to ask questions. They've got everything, memory care, all the way up to independent living. They've got little houses onsite or single-family homes. It's less than a mile from our house and he likes it. It is really important to me that my cousin feels comfortable there, and he has some friends who already live there.

The Asbury staff were true champions of the residents providing daily care with cheerful demeanor, making the villas a home not a facility. The rooms were very nice and gave plenty of privacy. The Activities staff were constantly providing the attention that the residents crave and were always trying to give stimulation to our mom and always went the extra mile to include her in activities and to keep all the residents engaged. Before covid, they had organized outings for the residents to go to lunch, shopping, or sightseeing.

My mom moved into Asbury Heights. It's very nice. The staff members are very nice. Her room is nice. They don't have too many activities because of the virus. They only have bingo, they go outside, they watch movies, and stuff like that. The food is good. She likes them. Asbury Heights is very expensive. They have a garden that has benches; it's a big circle. The facility is very clean. They have community rooms, but no chapel.

My parents moved into Asbury Heights. It's very well-managed and the staff is overwhelmingly nice and helpful. In general the activity calendar for the seniors is very good and has a lot to offer my mom and dad.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My mother, who has been a resident for approximately 8 months, although receiving good nursing and aide care, in my opinion does not get enough attention/information from the administration such as the social workers, care coordinators, etc. AH seems to me to make "arbitrary" decisions concerning duration of patient care - WITHOUT contacting/coordinating with the family. They need to remember that the family NEEDS TO BE CONTACTED (AND APPROVAL/CONSENT OBTAINED) prior to making an edict about patient stay duration OR changes in patient status!

Provider Response

Our goal is to keep residents and their family “in the know” when it comes to the care we are providing. Our Administrative Team is investigating your concern and will be contacting you.

I think Asbury Heights is a very well-run facility. There is a lot of staff and a nice, clean, open floor plan. They have an activities director who does things, like sing-alongs.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My mother paid a buy-in that promised a 90% return on that fee due upon the resale of her apartment unit after she vacated it in February, 2015. She passed away on March 1, 2015 and her apartment has not been reoccupied, meaning that Asbury owes us, interest free, $143,000 after two years! We have already paid the PA inheritance tax due on this sum to realize a 5% discount due for timely submission.. Due diligence should be observed by those contemplating the buy-in options offered at Asbury, for a refund may be a LONG time in coming!

Provider Response

The time it takes to refund entrance fees is contingent on a new resident’s occupancy of the former resident’s quarters. When a member of our Sales Department discusses entrance fee options with prospective residents, we first and foremost encourage those prospective residents to consult their financial planner to best determine which option makes the most sense for their specific situation. All potential Independent Living residents work closely with an Independent Living Advisor who reviews our refund policy throughout the sales process. The policy is reviewed one final time before the contract is signed. Asbury Heights makes every effort to return the refundable portion of entrance fees to all residents who leave their living quarters in a timely manner and will continue to do so.

Asbury Heights was great. The rooms were clean and accessible, and I'm in a wheelchair, so that is important. It was definitely a higher-end place, so you will have lesser worries than in other places.

Asbury Heights a beautiful facility, but it didn’t have the level of care that my parents needed. You would have to contact somebody to come in. For somebody who wants assisted living that is in good health, I think that would be a place to go. If you need help getting up in the morning and help with dressing, it’s not as economic as it sounds.

Asbury Heights is a nice place but it's a buy-in, and you have to put a few hundred thousand dollars down first. They only feed you one meal a day, and I wasn't impressed with it. You pay a monthly fee to live there, so the cost is a little too exuberant.

I visited this facility

One of the reasons I did not choose Asbury Heights is that the ratio of caregivers to patients is 10 patients for every caregiver, and I didn’t feel that that was going to be sufficient care for my dad. For other people are not as severely impaired as him, it would be OK. It looked like a beautiful facility. The people that I spoke with were very nice and spent a lot of time with us. The rooms were fine. It was a newer building. The eating areas were very nice.

My experiences with this place have been absolutely awful. The staff did not treat my family member with respect as she had to wait hours to use the restroom, we had to make multiple requests just to have her washed once a week, she couldn't reach her call button on multiple occasions to get help, and the list goes on and on. They treated my family member like she wasn't a person for her last days here on earth. Bottom line, if you are looking for a place for your loved one, please don't take them here.

Asbury Heights was very nice and we liked it, but it was $2,000 more a month, and my mom just doesn't have that. I wouldn't mind living in there, but I don't have the money either. The dining room is nicer than where my father is now, but the bedrooms weren't quite as nice. I was only there for an hour. The girl who took us on a tour -- I believe her name was Jennifer -- was very friendly and very nice.

We have my mom in a nice place at Asbury Heights. We're fine with this place. It is a faith-based community and it is a lovely place. It is also quite large. They have nursing care and memory care. They also have private villas that people can go to. It's a nice community. I'm also very happy with the staff there. Food is good. My mom never complains about the food. She has only been there for three weeks but it is a good experience for us.

We visited Asbury Heights. It is a nice place to live. The environment is very nice. The staff is very helpful and accommodating. I like best their very nice rooms. However, they could improve on their nursing home facility. It isn't as nice as the others we looked at.

Asbury Heights provides different housing options, from independent living to full and Alzheimer care. The facility is located in a quiet Pittsburgh suburb. St Clair Hospital is less than a mile from the facility. Asbury Heights is very clean and feels more like a home than a nursing facility. There are sidewalks to very nice sitting areas throughout the grounds. The amenities are wonderful, it has its own beauty and barbershop, diner, post office, game rooms, and much more. When visiting Asbury Heights there are plenty of activities for you to do with your loved ones. The staff is attentive and patient, with full focus on the full care patients at all times. The staff that I observed had bonded with their patients. The staff also plans many activities for the residents, there are movie nights, dinner parties, game nights, and for residents living in independent living there are off site activities planned. After visiting many other facilities I found Asbury Heights to be a caring well run home that I highly recommend.

I visited this facility

The facility was very clean and smelled nice and the staff was friendly. They had a common area with a snack shop, post office and second hand store. All of which I liked very much for my mother. The main problem were with the rooms on the Assisted living floors. They has 2 floors for Assisted Living, three units for Nursing Home and five floors of independent living. The assisted living floors the majority of the rooms were one room with no bathroom. You had to go down the hall to use the toilet and/or shower/bath. I did not like this at all and either did my mother. They had afew rooms with bathrooms but they were always being taken by residents waiting inhouse to move from a non-bathroom room to a bathroom room. Desided not to have my mother move in there.
