My overall tour experience with Springfield Place was very nice. They were very cordial. We had lunch, and we looked at an apartment, and it was very impressive. The layouts were quite nice. The surroundings were quite nice. The ambiance was good. I think they have 24-hour assisted gyms, community activities, and outside activities. They're very good. Everything is very good. The main attraction there was their restaurant. They have a very nice restaurant, but it was way too much for us. It was gourmet. The staff were nice. We were escorted by a salesperson, and they were always good. We had lunch there and it was very good. It was excellent, but way too much for us. They had like a three- or four-course lunch, and normally we eat a sandwich or a soup for lunch. They had dinner five-course meals, and normally we would have one plate. Breakfast was full service of sausage and eggs, and we normally eat a bowl of cereals, so it was not us. Some people would like that though.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My father has moved into Springfield Place. His room is nice and it has a nice-looking hardwood floor. He's got a little kitchenette, refrigerator, and a nice walk-in shower made for the handicap. It's got handrails around it. The bathroom is large. It's got a nice heat lamp in there. He gets cold a lot, so he just turns that on and it helps out. The lighting is really good in the room. He's on the second floor and he's got big windows that look out into a bunch of trees and stuff. It's a nice room and he's really happy with it. It's plenty big enough for one person. My brother told me he had some minestrone when he went there and he said it was the best thing he ever had in his life. He said the food was great. My dad is a fairly picky eater and he said that the food they have there is really good. They have a morning exercise program for everybody willing to participate. They have a little workout room with some stationary bikes. They have a list that they print out and post at everybody's door to let them know of upcoming activities, what's available, and what they might be interested in. They have a lot of different things for the people in that community. They have musicians come in and live music sometimes. I was there one day when there was a great guitar player. Right now, they're kind of on semi-lockdown because they had a few COVID cases pop up, but they were really on that. They got it under control. It was pretty impressive how they were on to that so quickly. They've been great. The staff is great, easy to talk to, really nice, and very helpful. They made everything a very easy transition. The place is very nice inside. It looks like it's kept very clean. It's a beautiful facility. It feels very spacious and big there. I didn't even realize how big it was in there until I went in and was pretty amazed by how big and open it feels in there. I like the facility. I think my dad's done a little bit of the exercise stuff. They have very reasonable prices.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

Over the last few months, I have researched a variety of care/living options for my uncle, including at-home care and senior community living. I was immediately impressed when I researched Springfield Place in Petaluma, CA. The staff went out of their way to answer questions and to provide any help needed before, during, and after the decision-making process of whether or not this was the right location for my uncle. Once he decided that this was where he wanted to be, the staff helped in every way possible to get him moved in and set up in his new home, including personally going to Kaiser’s medical offices when we were having trouble getting some of the required forms signed by the doctor. Without their help to navigate Kaiser’s medical system, I think we would still be waiting on those forms long after I had to return home on the East Coast. The staff had excellent covid protocols in place that made me feel like my uncle would be as safe as possible. They had a great set of documents to help me organize what was needed to move him in quickly and efficiently. Their facilities staff was helpful in hanging a few pictures that I couldn’t manage. The front desk had a welcome sign up for my uncle during his entire first week there. The other residents made a point to come introduce themselves and to say hello. There was a notable mix of residents who were at various stages of care and mobility, and they were often out in the common areas talking and socializing with each other. There was a guest room that I was able to use for a couple of days to help make the transition a bit easier. The food was surprisingly good, and I’m rather picky. I was expecting cafeteria level food and was delighted to find that the food was restaurant quality....and better than a few restaurants that I went to during my stay. They have a variety of rooms layouts available, all at different costs. We went with a large studio with a large den, and we used the den as a bedroom. This apartment that we chose doesn’t have a window in the bedroom/den, but it does have two large French doors that open into the living space making it feel bigger and brighter. We were able to fit a lot more furniture and “stuff” than I had imagined due to the extra closets by the bathroom. I know a lot of people are concerned about the costs of senior care facilities, but at Springfield Place we got the apartment, the assistance of the facilities team, the nursing staff, laundry assistance for towels and sheets, the front desk staff, three meals per day, heating, electricity, and community activities all within the price of the monthly payment. When you add all of that up and then add on top of it the fact that you know that your loved one is not alone and that there is someone always around to make sure they are okay.... the price seems more than reasonable. The price does increase a little depending upon the level of care that your loved one needs, but even that seems reasonable, especially after seeing how well the staff cares for those who need additional levels of care. All in all, I am very happy with the experience and am really glad that we found Springfield Place. Plus, as my uncle says “It’s close to the golf course!” :-)

We went to Springfield Place. It was assisted living, but they did not offer as much, and you couldn't age in place there. They had bigger apartments, which I liked, but it did not feel so cramped. If you choose to stay in your room all day it isn't like a dorm room. They had similar activities like book readings, happy hour, exercise, and art classes. They had a salon in the facility and a library.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

I am writing this review so your loved ones will hopefully not have to endure what my mom did at Springfield Place. When we were making our decision on where mom should live in independent living, the only information we could find were online reviews like this, what the sales staff told us, and my mom spent a brief stay at the residence. My mom lived at Springfield Place for over five years. She liked her apartment, the grounds and walking trail, the décor of the building, the activities and the mid level staff and residents. She felt like the meals were sometimes good and often marginal. The turnover of chefs was high. There was a norovirus the first year she lived there and several people got sick and all were quarantined. There were three general managers, two sales managers and two nursing managers during her stay at Springfield Place. The mid level employees had longevity and they put their heart and soul into the residents. The worst part was that the nursing manager, Sonia, delayed Hospice in giving pain meds to my mom for three days towards the end of her life. My mom was in such pain because of this that she hit her alert button and the paramedics came on a Sunday morning, just three days before she passed away. My mom was active and enjoyed good health most of the time she lived at Springfield Place. She was denied good care when she needed it the most. I hope you consider our experiences when making your decisions and I hope that this sort of experience never happens to your loved ones.

I absolutely loved Springfield Place. My mother hasn't moved in yet but I've been getting her things moved in a little at a time. The community is absolutely amazing. I've gone in unannounced four to six times and every time I go in, all the residents are doing their own thing, whether they're playing cards or board games, or doing puzzles. She hasn't even moved in yet, but she's already been made to feel extremely welcome. It's an assisted living community, but it's all apartments. There are people to help if you need it, but you're pretty much on your own. The apartments are great and very nice depending on the size you want. There are different sizes for the one-bedroom and two-bedroom apartments. I ran into a new resident who actually moved here from Montana specifically for this community. The staff is amazing. The residents are great. I would definitely recommend it to anyone. My mom was absolutely amazed when we did the tour. Their menu changes week-to-week, month-to-month, and it's pretty much a restaurant menu. You have lots to choose from for each of your three meals a day, and snacks are available at all times. If you go to their website, with the exception of the model apartment, every picture you see on their website is 100% accurate and representative of what you get when you get there. It's right between my home and work. Any time of the day or night, I can get there in less than five minutes. What you see is what you get there, absolutely. Staff, residents, and everything are absolutely amazing. I have no problems recommending it to anybody. I went in four times unannounced, and I got the same thing every single time. The staff looked happy, and there's more than enough. All of the residents are very happy doing their own thing, and everyone's very social.

I really adored the woman I spoke to at Springfield Place. Stacy was a lovely, knowledgeable woman. She knew everything that was going on, called all the staff by name, and knew everybody’s job and what she was supposed to be doing. I felt like it was extremely well-run. I am 72 and most of the people were quite a bit older than I am, however, so the activities were more for really senior citizens. It was very nice, clean, and well run. We ate lunch, and the food was good. I felt that I wasn’t ready for that yet. For the most part, the residents were in their 80s and 90s. I had a really good feeling about it, however. They didn’t have grounds, so there weren’t a lot of nice places to walk. It is right in town. I think it is really a well-run place. I even got a note from Stacy that says I am welcome to stay for a couple of nights for free if I want to, which I thought was very nice.

Springfield Place was wonderful. However, they did not let us know upfront or right away that they did not take people with dementia, and my friend is in the beginning stages. We were ready to move in, and then, three days before, they said "Whoops! You cannot come because you have dementia." That was really disappointmenting how the way they handled that. The room was beautiful. My friend wasn't excited about the people who assisted her. She did not think they were that nice, but the main lady who greeted us was great. The activities were great and in wide variety. The dining area was beautiful.

Provider Response

Hi Linda, Springfield Place is delighted when a prospective resident wants to join our community. And like you, we are always saddened and disappointed when the final assessment is not what any of us could have imagined. Your story below is not unusual – assisted living communities occasionally discover medical issues that prevent a move-in. As difficult as this is, the reasons to reject the move-in are based in California laws and the community’s ethical standards. I am so sorry for the disappointment, and I welcome a conversation with you so I can explain everything to you in detail. Thank you for taking the time to write, and feel free to call me at the community to discuss more. Sincerely, Becky Monday, General Manager

Springfield Place was the best. It was a really nice facility. The people were very nice. It looked like the people there were communicating with each other, and they seemed to enjoy it. They seemed to be a lot going on and a lot for them to do. That was our No. 1 choice. They had a variety of rooms to choose from, and that was nice.

I visited this facility

We went to Springfield. We were not attracted to it. We saw people just sitting around. It did not look like it was very active to us. They had an exercise room and a gym, but it just did not seem active, it did not seem the kind of people that we would be interested living with. What was more important to us was the community itself. It wasn’t our kind of ambience.

Provider Response

Thank you for taking the time to review Springfield Place. I’m sorry to hear that we’re not the environment for you or your loved one. As an assisted living community, we strive for a “social” over a “medical” model. However, it would never be our intention to indicate that we are active around the clock. There are times of the day when our beloved residents are engaged in games, lectures, social hours, outings, and meals and conversely, just like at your own home, there are times of the day that are quieter, peaceful, and a time of rest. We assume that you visited during the quieter time. We would welcome you to visit again and attend one of our fun community functions. This may demonstrate the other side of active that you are looking for. Feel free to reach out to me directly with any questions. Thanks, Becky Monday, General Manager

Springfield Place was more of an inclusive care facility, and it was very nice. They had a beauty salon and a library. There were activities going on like bingo and card games. The staff was very nice and friendly. They seemed very caring.

Provider Response

Thank you for taking the time to let us know how we’re doing at Springfield Place. We’re happy to hear that you enjoyed the amenities and activities you saw. Beyond the beauty salon and library, we have our dynamic activity room where our residents get stronger with exercise, get smarter with lectures, and get more engaged with games including Bocce Ball. If you were unable to dine with us during your visit, we would welcome your return to taste one of our delicious meals. It is always a pleasure to show off our community to others, and we greatly appreciate your taking the time to report on your findings. Please come again real soon! Thank you, Becky Monday, General Manager and staff

Springfield was very nice, but it was too much to spend $6,000 a month. We liked the director and thought he was very nice and competent. We ate with a very nice couple. The apartments were nice, too. It seemed to be well kept.

I was not so impressed with Springfield Place because they didn't have memory care. I just met one person there who was the director. I think she was just pitching in for the marketing person, so we didn't get the best tour. The place was nice, but the dining area did not impress me as much as the other places I visited.

Springfield Place was great, and the tour guide did a wonderful job. There were a couple of different rooms. One was larger than the other, but both were nice. The staff was great, personable, and friendly. They had an activity room, nice dining room, library, a gardening area, and nice walking paths.

I liked the fact that they have a number of clubs that a person can be a part of in Springfield Place. There seemed to be a number of common areas. It was clean, it was nicely landscaped, and we will be interested in Bible studies that they have. We had a 9-year old golden retriever that might be approved as a therapy dog. We were interested in a two-bedroom, two-bath; it was nicely arranged. The dining area was very nice. The staff was very helpful. The monthly cost was a bit high.

We found Springfield Place for our parent. The rooms were really nice and big. They were well appointed, and it didn't smell like a hospital. The staff was very nice. I liked that it was close to where he lives right now. It was a mile away, my brother lived there, and it did not smell like most of the other place smelled.

Spring Field was remodelling their dining area and it was truly nice. They have a very nice back garden setting. I was very impressed with Scott. He showed me a couple different options where my mom could stay and taking into consideration her dog. The people around seemed to be happy and there were a lot of activities. I feel it’s going to be a good place for mom.

We did check out Springfield Place and the facility was cheery. It had good vibes and that is very important. We ate there and the food was very good. We looked at a couple of apartments and the living room was exceptionally small, but it was on the bottom floor. They were really trying to help us out in any way they could. When we went upstairs, some people were playing poker or cards. We also went to different rooms were you could do crafts or watch movies.

Springfield Place is a wonderful facility! The staff is wonderful, very cheerful, and very enthusiastic. Food is great! Health and wellness department is always on top of things and same goes with all of the departments; they all work together to make residents feel welcome and at home. I visited this facility

We visited Springfield Place assisted living facility as an option for my aunt in the region. The grounds were well kept, for parties and other social gatherings. The park-like setting had many trees, benches and walkways for seniors to enjoy safely. The spacious windows let in plenty of light which made the place seem even bigger than it was. The private units were very well-designed and spacious. The fitness center had the latest equipment and they also offer instruction and classes. The dining rooms were very elegant, but still comfortable, as were all of the activity rooms and lounges. The food was what you could find in a five star restaurant, with service to match. The library was stocked with many great books. The residents looked like they were all active and occupied with an interesting activity. The planned outings include visiting many local restaurant favorites and numerous cultural venues. This is a very well thought out senior community, with everything a person could need. The decor was stately, but not stuffy. Definitely one of the better facilities we've seen in the region. Anyone interested in a beautiful place to live should check it out.
