We enjoyed speaking with the manager at Sabal Palms Assisted Living & Memory Care. He was very informative. It was not our first pick because it had a little older atmosphere so it didn't have a lot of activity and vibrance, but it was fine. The manager gave us a good tour and the room was nice and the place was nice. They could use a little more refurbishing in the common area. The couches there were kind of worn-looking a little bit, but generally, it was good. Every apartment that he showed us had been all refurbished. They had new carpet, new flooring, and new paint. So, they looked good. The manager was very informative and very friendly and nice. We enjoyed the tour.

Sabal Palms Assisted Living & Memory Care was very nice, and it would have been perfect. I thought everything was wonderful. It was very fancy, but that's not my mom's style. The guy did a wonderful job touring us around. He was nice, very businesslike, and very professional. The rooms he showed me were beautiful, but then it was apparent that none of the furniture that he showed us came with the room. So, it made no sense to show us a beautiful apartment and then to find that it was unfurnished.

Provider Response

Thank you for visiting us, Debbie, and taking the time to write a review. It may be helpful to know that assisted living communities usually furnish a model apartment so guests can see how much furniture it allows for, and provide ideas for placement. We hope you will visit us again soon and would love for your mother to join our community family!

I went to tour Sabal Palms Assisted Living & Memory Care. I thought it was an excellent place. It was very well-maintained, nice, and clean. The activities were well labeled, so you would know where you were. I was impressed with the staff. They were very knowledgeable and helpful and seemed to know what they were doing. The only thing I would do in addition, if I was going to go there, I would certainly want to take a meal or two to see if the kitchen was good. I did see the menu and it seemed very attractive, and they had excellent food choices on the menu. Everything else was good and very well-organized. The residents were actively doing projects and seemed to be enjoying themselves. I didn't find anything that wasn't excellent there. It's an older place, but they have maintained it well and it appeared to have recently been repainted and fixed up.

Sabal Palms Assisted Living & Memory Care is a very well laid out facility. The facility is really first class. We got a tour of the place. We really like the spaciousness of the rooms and the appointments. We saw a well-appointed model room. The bathrooms are large, clean, new, and fresh. They had a big living room and a TV room. They had a dining hall breakfast area. It reminded me of Marriott. It's really well done. I was impressed. The staff asked a lot of questions about my brother-in-law. My sister was there, and she was the one answering them. That is where we discovered that his weight is a problem. They didn't have a Hoyer lift and several other things; it made us doubt as to whether assisted living would be a viable option for him. I learned a lot just from the dialog with the lady that gave the tour.

I visited this facility

We toured Sabal Palms Assisted Living & Memory Care. It was right up there with the other places that were Ritz-Carlton type; it was beautiful. They had chandeliers in the entrance to the lobby. Their dining room looked like you were walking into an Outback Steakhouse. They had individual lighting at each table hanging from the ceiling. It was probably the nicest we've seen. They looked like they had plentiful staff. The lady who took us around was very knowledgeable. Everybody that we walked past either said hello, waved, or did something to acknowledge us. I heard them talking to their patients, and they were very upbeat. They were very nice, all of them. It's only a couple of years old, and it's in a nice area of town. The grounds were beautiful, very well landscaped, and the rooms were nice. They had a courtyard, a salon, a gathering area for people to play cards, and another area where you and your family could have a special occasion, like a birthday party.

My visit at Sabal Palms Assisted Living & Memory Care was a very good experience. The staff who showed me around was very good, and she was wonderful. The place looked nice. I would have loved to have brought Mom there. The problem was, that my mom needs an attached seat in her shower, one that was bolted into the wall. They did not have that and could not provide one. That was the only factor that turned us away. The facility seemed very nice, and the staff was interacting with the residents, which I liked. It had a lovely movie theater and it seemed to me that most of the residents were out and about rather than just sitting in their room with the door shut with no interaction. I was impressed with that because I think at that age you kind of need some interaction or you're going to turn into a zombie. Everything I saw, I was very pleased with. The staff were all great. They were friendly, perky, and energetic; I was very impressed with them. The only thing I noticed was that there was not enough parking, because when I got there, I had trouble finding a place to park, it was full. It needs help in the parking department.

We saw Sabal Palms Assisted Living & Memory Care. It was nice, but I think it was overpriced for what you got. The staff were nice and professional, but they weren't as polished as the other ones. They were good but not as good as the other ones. As far as the facilities go, they had the exercise room and the full dining room. They were okay. The rooms were nice and well taken care of, but yet I felt like it was a little higher price for what you got.

My sister is in Sabal Palms Assisted Living & Memory Care. It's fine, but it's a little much for what she needs. They keep it pretty clean. Her room is basic, but it's very nice. She brought some things from home and we bought her bedding and decorations for the walls. She seems comfortable there. She has Down's syndrome, so she needs a little extra help. I'm not happy about the fact that she's so far away from all the main activities, but they have a schedule of activities for the residents. They have a theater room, a gymnasium, a couple of dining rooms, a library, gym equipment, and physical therapy room, and a few different seating areas. It's got a few levels, and she's on the second floor. They could improve on trying a little harder to accommodate her needs because she is an adult with Down's syndrome. I'm not big on the place.

Sabal Palms Assisted Living & Memory Care is a newer facility, so the physical appearance was a little bit better than average, but the room sizes were smaller, and the number of the amenities and the layout did not appear nearly as resident friendly as what I saw in other places. The staff was very pleasant, but they were not nearly as transparent with their pricing schedules, or as forthcoming with the details. The dining room was very basic. The facility has only been open for a couple of months, so it's new, but it is more that they did not put the money into the facility by choice, and that was the business decision they made. It's much more basic. They weren't speaking much in specifics, but more in generalities in terms of like their daily activity to keep people busy and engaged and active, but it just didn't have a lot of the specifics in the formal layout and construction that the other facility had.

Kathy's mother, Shari, has been with Sabal Palms for about 18 months or more. She was there through the entire Covid ordeal and a number of months before Covid. She has loved it and we have been so happy with everyone. Brett is a great director and kudo's out to everyone on staff. Before Covid, we enjoyed many "happy hours" where we would go and be with her mother for music, snacks and even glasses of wine! The kitchen and dining area are beautiful and the food is great. It is kind of like someone living on a cruise ship, without the water. lol. The staff has always been very helpful when we have needed something extra and Rick the maintenance man goes out of his way to be a blessing also. We simply cannot say enough as to how pleased we have been with Sabal Palms. Joel and Kathy Davisson, Palm Coast, Florida

Choose carefully for your loved one. The facility is only a few years old and well maintained but in my estimation is not the most important consideration. In my estimation, its management and staff that are most important. Once you get past the facility's appearance and its maintenance, affordability, food, cleanliness, activities it's the personal care provided to your loved one by the staff especially one on one care. Keep in mind, it's the care that you can no longer provide that the staff must now substitute. Consider the covid-19 protection provided.

My mother is at Sabal Palms Assisted Living & Memory Care. We like the staff and the location. I took her there. I've been in the lobby and to one of the conference rooms. It's really the extent of what I've seen of the actual location. It's beautiful and very well maintained, and the residents that I saw all seemed happy. They gave me an example of the current activity calendar, and they have quite a bit available. It's the best place for her because she's safe there.

My aunt likes Sabal Palms. It was really nice. It looked new and fresh. People were friendly and the staff who helped us with the tour was very helpful. She showed us around, we saw some group doing activities, but my aunt doesn't seem to be interested in any activities. The room was very nice, too.

My tour at Sabal Palms was wonderful. It was very nice. I was impressed because there was a lot of help there, and a lot of interactions between the staff and the people living there. It was just a really nice place. It was very calming-looking and there were activities for everyone. It was really close to home. The staff who gave us the tour did great. I think it was the director that walked us around. She was knowledgeable, she knew all the patients, and said hi to all of them. It was nice to see that she knew all the residents. The rooms were very nice and pretty spacious for two people.

The rooms at Sabal Palms were excellent. They had an exercise class every morning, take them out to different environments and the bank, and had painting and movies. Everybody was very friendly, helpful, and caring. The residents were very happy and love being there.

Sabal Palms is nicely appointed and shows well. We transferred my mom from a nice assisted living facility in Orlando to have her closer to us for frequent visits. It didn't take long to figure out that this facility was mis-managed. Constant staff turnover, improperly or untrained staff, lack of any activity /stimulation in memory care. We had several meetings with management with no resolve. I finally contacted the corporate supervisor who did not follow through or even respond within her promised timeline. These fragile residents were robbed of dignity and understanding. My mom regressed rapidly and we finally made the difficult decision to move her yet again. Fortunately she is at a caring and giving community now. She is not afraid of staff anymore and is more calm and settled in her new surroundings. There are some great employees at Sabal Palms, but unfortunately without proper leadership.

My mother was a resident at this community for several months. The building looks amazing and has a wonderful location. The food is not very good, bland with little to no flavor. The care givers are ok at best. This place was not what we thought it would be.

Sabal Palms didn't have any odor problems. My mom enjoyed her stay in this place tremendously. She had a nice big bedroom, then she had a living room and dining area in her apartment. Everybody there was friendly, but she asked for help with getting in the shower and no one showed up, so she went ahead and did it on her own. She also enjoyed the food and the people, they played bingo, and they had a theater rooms where she watched movies. I was kind of disappointed with the handicapped area of her room, but at least her shower had grab bars that she could hold onto. The community was brand new, and the elevators were very nice. It had a large area for residents to walk, but the staff would also push them in their wheelchairs if they really had trouble walking. They had a snack bar downstairs, but it mainly had coffee and cookies.

We didn't have a good experience with Sabal Palms. The kitchen staff and the food was good, but the nursing care for Mom's level didn't quite meet my expectations of what was promised. She uses oxygen and they were not capable of handling that when she was there. They have different levels of care, and they need to be more in tune to that and to what kind of nursing care they provide. The rooms were adequate for her needs. She was in a studio and it was a pretty good size. They had movies every day, bingo, arts and crafts, once a week an entertainer came in, there were wine days, they had a residents committee where they talk about activities and things they want, and they had weekly outings to church, to different restaurants, and to go shopping.
