I thought Maplewood at Orange was great. The staff was very nice, very open, very talkative, and letting me know everything. They were getting ready for a production of snowflakes or something that night. It was like a dance or something like that. Very, very nice, very clean, very well-kept rooms. They had lunch for us, my mom said they were good. I gave her the lunch because she didn't come with us. She liked it. They were having lunch when I came. And they explained that if she couldn't get downstairs herself, they would either bring up a wheelchair and bring her down, or send food to her room. They had a beauty salon, a fitness center, and a PT place. They had arts and crafts and a library. They have a patio outside with a garden. You could see it through the dining room. There was nothing dirty, it was very clean.

Maplewood at Orange looked like a palace. It looked very clean. They gave us a cake in there and it was delicious. The cook explained everything to us, explained the menu and how he cooks and he just explained the basics for us to understand that they take care of the people with their needs. The staff during the tour was good. The apartment she showed us had somebody in there. It was a two-bedroom, and it was pretty nice. She did her best. They have an exercise room and a nice library. They have other activities on the board for the seniors, like a big room where they can sit down and watch movies. It's almost like home. It's a nice place.

Deciding to change the living situation of a senior in your life is tremendous. For both the senior and their family. Maplewood’s staff is there for both. You are greeted from day one as part of a big family. They are continually checking on your senior to make sure they are engaging, having them interact with others they feel your senior will be compatible with. And the family, they give you the tools to make the transition the best it could be understanding how difficult it is. Every staff member has a smile on their face and you can sense the positive atmosphere as soon as you walk in the door.

Beautiful community and kind staff. My father is loved by everyone here and really adapted well to the change. It certainly wasn’t easy but we are grateful to all the staff at Maplewood

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My wife has moved into Maplewood at Orange. Well, two things; I wasn't happy with the room she got, and the TV has snow and I'm paying for it. She doesn't like being there anyway, she wants to come home; but she still has hallucinations and stuff like that, so it's impossible. The only thing that bothered me was, they showed me a different room, and then she got this two by four. They said, "Well, there was no other room available." They got a snowy picture on the TV and I'm paying $80 a month for that, so I'm still after them on that to fix the thing or do something. When we looked at it at first, we thought it very nice; and it was near where we live, so we can drop in and look very easily. That was the main consideration at this point. Then they did come down in price because I said, "Well, I can't afford that." So, she came down at the price, I pushed it and pushed it; so that's why she's there. As far as I can see, they're pretty good; but I think they give you a lot of baloney to make you feel good. They make everything sound so good; they say, they come in every hour to check them. But they don't come in every hour to check people at night. Then I'm paying for Med management; $795 for Med management. They'll come over with the pills, and if she doesn't want them, they walk away, that's it. I know they can't force her to take them. That's a big thing with her, though; taking her meds. But if she takes her meds, she's a lot better. I thought when they said they had a med manager, there was a specific person or something like that, but I hear it's not. The food is pretty good, I got to say that. She doesn't like memory care, you don't get many activities. She should have been on the next level, and that's what we were arguing about. I said, she should be in where they have a lot of different activities. They're always doing something. You go in there and watch these people sitting in a chair, half of them are hanging over the side. They couldn't care less what was going on. My wife is active, and you got to keep her active. If she doesn't want to do something, I know she won't do it; but they got to go in and try to get her out of the room. I can't be there 24 hours a day, it's a shame. I don't get involved too much with the staff, I mean, I'm involved with people in the upper echelons, but they're not people that are on the floor that take care of the people. They're marketing people, and they're pretty good. They take a lot of time, but again, you get, and you find out later, "Oh, we do this, and we do that", give me a break. My granddaughter was up there till eight o'clock one night; she says nobody ever came in the room to check or anything like that. Again, the TV doesn't operate, right; and that's my TV. I had to bring mine over, and that's a new TV. That's the other thing. They don't give you anything; you got to bring your own towels and linen. We brought our own furniture for crying out loud. They have stock in the storeroom, they can put furniture in there if you want, but God knows whose furniture it was or is. I needed an end table and a lamp, which they gave me. As far as the shower stall is concerned, that's another problem I have seen in practically every place that I went to visit. They use a curtain only, and the water comes out from the shower onto the floor of the bathroom. I mean, people could slip and slide on that. It's absolutely stupid. Why the hell they don't put a little lip or something on the doggone thing? Maybe they figure somebody's going to trip over. I don't know. But they have the water come out all over the floor, that's craziness. When I take her out of the room and go into the other room, or to go to have her eat, that's the other thing. People are out there eating, and she's in a room. I happen to be there; so, I took her out into the room, they always say, "Oh, you want to eat?" What do you mean she didn't want to eat? I got to say, my wife is not the greatest patient in the world, but she knows pretty much that's what's going on. The food is very good; most of them are very good. It's a beautiful place, and that it's well kept. As far as the structure is concerned, everything looks good, looks freshly painted. It's clean, and they have a patio and things like that outside. The structures are good, but as I said, there's one particular room I didn't like. I never see anybody doing anything. They say they have activities, but I haven’t seen them.

Maplewood at Orange has exceeded our families' expectations. The care and kindness they have shown my Mom and our family has been exceptional. Maplewood at Orange in my opinion is unlike any other community in the area. We feel peace of mind, with their 24 hour nursing. Their apartments are spacious and there are always activities going on. I would recommend Maplewood to anyone looking for the next step for a loved one.

Review of Maplewoods, Orange, CT. The decision to move to a senior residency can be difficult. There are many things to consider when making that decision, but the most important consideration is staffing. Kind, knowledgeable and responsive staff are key to a successful experience. Maplewoods staff: housekeepers, maintenance, nurses, receptionists, aides, cooks, dining staff, care coordinators, and directors are skilled in making Maplewood residents feel comfortable and at home. There are many reasons for choosing Maplewoods of Orange for my mother, but the one that stands above the rest is the way she is treated. When I hear staff addressing my mom just as her grandchildren do, “Hi Mama”, I know Maplewoods is the place for her.

I looked at Maplewood at Orange, and it would have been a good choice, but they have no room available. They have three levels of care: assisted living, memory care, and intermediate level, where it's secured at night. It's weird that they do pricing per service, but I lean toward all-inclusive pricing. They try to do a farm to table option where they source more local ingredients.

Maplewood was exceptional, that would have been our top choice. It was a modern facility with different levels of care, which was important. The location was opportune for us and very elegant. They had a 24-hour on-site nurse and served three meals a day. They gave us a nice apple pie. The cost was astronomical.

I love Maplewood; I thought it was very friendly, modern, and a lot of sunlight. This was a beautiful place. Robyn was good. The food was very fresh and tasty. I would have thought it would be good having my parents eat there; I would have felt they would be in good hands. Nothing was too salty and it felt conscientiously prepared. The rooms were nice. They had an exercise room. They had a person that comes and helps and a nurse on call. They had a calendar of activities like they took the residents to trips like the casino and to the theater. It seemed great. If I could afford it, I would put my mom and dad there.

Maplewood at Orange was nice. No problems with the location, or the property itself, and the people there. It can be a very nice place to stay. The rooms were in good condition. Even though it was winter time, there were some very nice areas out there. It’s in a single community or all-in-one building type of structure.

I am a friend or relative of a resident

My mother move to Maplewood at Orange last May of this year. I choose this facility because a good friend recommends it and when I go there, I am very impressed with people working there and the residents. It is a good fit for my mother with her health and her dementia. She has a studio apartment and it is a very good accommodation with enough space for her. The food tastes excellent. The only thing I have a little concern about is that they are not diet specific if people have certain need, but in general, I think it is healthy, organic food and it tastes delicious. They offer her to be able to be on the current neighborhood both for the memory loss clients as well as for other residents within the building. She has access to everything there. It is a very good thing for her and everything is working well. I think I will recommend them to anyone. It comes with a cost, but it is certainly the best place for elder people with memory loss that cannot be accommodated in their own home.
