Assisted living and other long-term care facilities in California are licensed and regulated by the California Senior Care Licensing Program, which has 14 regional offices situated throughout the state, including one in Riverside. Interested parties may contact regional offices to view the files of individual facilities.

Benefits and Drawbacks of Assisted Living in Norco

  • Although the cost of living in Norco is higher than the state average, this is mostly the result of higher-than-average real estate prices, which don’t typically affect those in assisted living facilities. The cost of groceries is slightly less than the state average, and the cost of health care is significantly less.
  • Norco gets more sun and less rain than the national average, making it appealing to seniors who appreciate the opportunity to spend a lot of time outdoors. With midsummer highs in the 90s, some seniors may prefer to spend the middle of the day in air-conditioned interior spaces.
  • Norco has a 2.3% higher property crime rate than the national average. However, assisted living facilities are typically secure environments where residents are less likely to be crime victims than their counterparts in private homes. Additionally, Norco’s violent crime rate is 6.4% below the U.S. average.
  • Informally known as Horsetown, USA, Norco offers a rustic ambiance with horse trails instead of sidewalks, hitching posts, and plenty of fairs, festivals and western-themed events. Many retirees enjoy this aspect of the community, although some may not prefer the community’s livestock-oriented focus.
  • Norco is located 49 miles east of Los Angeles, making it a good choice for those who like to go into the city occasionally. However, those who need advanced medical treatment typically found in urban environments may find Norco too far removed for a regular commute.
