When I came to Atria West 86, I saw that there were very tall yellow flowers, but they were almost dead. And I thought that's not a good first impression. They should have been changed or kept fresh. I thought that the benches that you sit on and the rugs that you walk on in the downstairs part were quite dowdy. They seemed a little dusty and they didn't make my heart sing. Then I was brought into a room and given snacks, and they were wonderful. The food that I was given was wonderful and they're all very fresh and very good choices. They were sort of hors d'oeuvres kinds of things. And the woman who showed me around was very nice. She was in kind of ragtag clothing, not a nice pair of pants. We went up to see the rooms and they were okay. I didn't think they were great. Some of them were nicer than others, and some of them had more space than others, but I wasn't sure I'd be able to afford the spacious ones. I met a lot of people, and they seemed nice, and they said, 'Oh, I hope you're coming here. It's wonderful here,' and that was nice to hear. I didn't, however, spot anyone I thought I would naturally be friends with. It seemed quite Jewish to me, which I'm not. But for like girlfriends, I didn't see anybody who I thought had had the kind of background I had. I grew up in New England, I'm quite educated, and I was married to a famous playwright, so I went to the theater all the time. It just didn't seem to be my cup of tea. Besides that, I felt too young. They showed me what I think is a television room, people sitting around watching television, and that was okay. The furniture wasn't wonderful, but it was okay. And then they showed me the library, and that was inadequate. It didn't have literature. It had travel books and encyclopedias. There was so little shelf space there, that they couldn't possibly have had a good collection of books. So that was a disappointment, too, because I'm an avid reader. They need to improve on a much more pleasant greeting hall with things dusted and cheerful-looking. They need to improve on caring about the flowers, so you don't walk in and see almost dead lilies. I thought the library was completely unsuccessful, but I don't know what they could do about it except build more shelves or have somebody who knows about books come in and give them a better variety.

We had a very nice tour at Atria West 86. We were given a tour by a woman named Kim. She was extremely friendly and personable. The atmosphere of the building was extremely lively and friendly. It felt like a community; it did not feel in any way like a hospital or that type of facility. It really felt like an apartment building, but with more of a feeling of community. There were lots of gathering spaces. There was a beautiful terrace on the roof. It was a very careful balance between nurturing independence and providing support. The outdoor space was very nice. It's very expensive, but it's very nice. That's the only thing. I wouldn't encourage anyone to go there who thinks it's not going to be expensive.

Mom was at Atria West 86, but we took her out of there. We had a bad experience and I have nothing good to say about them. The administrative people were terrible. They were only good at sales. I went to customer service and I never heard back. The sales people were fantastic, but they over promise. The turnover on the staff was unbelievable. Every time you called and asked for the assistant director, there was somebody different. The lower level people who work there are good but unhappy. If you have a problem, they don't address it. They didn't know when the doctor was coming. They had some decent programs, and they took them places. They had movies and the restaurant was good. Mom's room was a disaster. The window didn't open properly, and they never fixed it. As much as we told them to fix it and offered to pay for it, they never fixed it. The entrance way was too narrow for wheelchairs, and the hallways were also technically too narrow.

My father lived in Atria for two years during Covid. The staff did an incredible job with a very tough client - really above and beyond. They also had an astounding success rate for containing Covid - at an assisted living facility in New York City!!!! My father improved immensely and is now living independently again. It's expensive, but truly the best of the best.

I am fairly new to Atria West 86th and has been living here for 2 months now. It has been absolutely positive. The staff are caring and helpful. They are available to help as needed. I am receiving ADLs support with bathing and dressing, which I need help with. In regards to socialization activities, they have plenty of activities to do. In fact, there's too much. I'm busy with my day and the activities keeps me active. The facility brings me joy that I transitioned from respite stay to permanent.

I've decided to move into Atria West 86th for the support and medical attention that I needed. I have been residing in the community for almost a year now and my experiences has been amazing thus far. I made the right decision to come here not only for daily support with my ADLs but also to socialize with others. I felt isolated living alone before, but now I have made friends with my fellow residents. The socialization activities has been wonderful. This is a great place to live.

I am a new resident of Atria West 86th. My husband and I moved into the community on August 16, 2022 from Michigan. The move was a huge transition for my husband and I. Part of the decision to move to this community is to be near my daughter. We are still acclimating to the routine and appreciate the care and support that we are receiving. The quality of the food is great. Most importantly, the staff are wonderful. We benefit from services including the socialization activities in-house as well as the outings. Overall, we like it here as our new home.
