I visited this facility

Seminole Shores Assisted Living was nice. It was clean and up-to-date. The staff was nice. They had a courtyard where they could go out, which was kind of enclosed, so people that were in memory care could go out and enjoy some fresh air. The staff was good and tried to be as helpful as possible and answer questions that you had. The cleanliness and upkeep were good.

I visited this facility

Seminole Shores Assisted Living was nice. The living atmosphere was good. We liked the layout of that place. It was just one level and there were two separate wings of the building. The dining area and the staff were all nice. They also had a nice handicapped-accessible bathroom and different activities. It was very clean and very well-kept.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

The admin staff will tell you what you want to hear, when you arrive it’s very different and they only do the minimum. The aid staff for the most part is very lazy and sometimes takes 15 minutes to arrive. The food menu is very limited and visitors can not take their relative to cafes. If resident wants water they must ring bell not get it themselves. Activities are very limited and changed or deleted at the last minute.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My father spent nine months in Seminole Shores' memory care unit, until his death. We spent a great deal of time there with him, so we saw a lot over nine months. There were some very good med techs, and a couple of good aides, but the majority of aides seemed to be just punching the clock and putting in their time. They weren't there because they cared about the needs of the patients. While the food was good, many residents needed help eating; some couldn't eat at all without help. But the aides, in general, were more interested in chatting among themselves and eating their own meals. When we would pull the call button for help with my Dad in the bathroom, it was often 20 minutes or more before anyone would show up. Aides frequently would not make eye contact with us or greet us in the hallway or dining room. We often felt unwelcome. There is next to nothing in the way of proactive dementia care there. A very kind and energetic activities gal came in regularly, but she couldn't possibly work with all the residents. The only thing that qualifies this as a dementia care unit is that the doors are locked so no one can “escape." The ratio of staff to patients may meet some regulation (and I even wonder about that), but clearly there needs to be more and better trained staff. I would not recommend the memory care unit of Seminole Shores.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My mother in law afflicted with dementia lived at SS for two years, well taken care of, on the whole, by a well trained and attentive staff. In the last few months, her health began to decline and she became semi-bedridden. Then she was taken to Mercy with pneumonia. While she was there the family was infomed she would not be readmitted, as she was requiring too much staff attention. In the course of the family's discussion with management, SS hung up the phone. So the family was left suddently face with finding for an alternative living arrangement. While the search went on, my mother in law was kept in the hospital just for a place to stay...at what cost I hesitate to try to imagine. Finally an alternative living space (for 14 days) was arranged. Bottom line: if you need a place for your ageing loved one, the staff at SS will take good care of them for a while. But if they get sick, perpare to have them out on the parking lot by a management who care more about profit margins than their responsibility to the human beings who had been entrusted to their care.

My wife has moved into Seminole Shores. It's a good place, all on one floor. It is also very close to my home. They have good memory units. Food is not gourmet, but it is pretty good. They have entertainment once or twice a month, and sometimes they have music or singing. They have larger rooms, which are bright and cheery. I think Seminole is one of the higher priced ones.

I visited this facility

Seminole was absolutely lovely. It was a wonderful place. My sister's friend was staying there and she was very happy. I felt like she was very well taken care of. There was an adorable and very comfortable room owned by a lady who was 100 years old and it was her 100th birthday when I went there and she told she would go out dancing that night. That's how well they took care of their residents. However, it was way too pricey for us.

I am a friend or relative of a resident

It seemed like a very nice place to live, with friendly staff and a clean living environment. The apartments were nice, and the patio was a nice place to hang out. The only thing I did not like was the smell. I wasn't used to it, so my first time visiting it was a little bothersome. Besides that though, they had a living center, with a big tv, a beauty salon, and other things like that from what I saw.

I visited this facility

I visited my grandmother in this facility. She always wanted company and it was hard for her to adjust to the new settings because she had always lived in her own home and took care of herself. She broke her hip and had to get help at Seminole Shores for assistance. This facility helped my grandmother very much and helped her be able to take care of herself again. The staff was very nice and the amenities were ample. Her apartment/room was very well furnished and the staff checked on her often. I would definitely recomment this facility to anyone who needs help for a loved one. The whole place is very well put together and the people are taken care of.

Friend or relative of resident

My grandmother has been a resident of this facility since 2009. The place looks pleasant, is very clean, and includes good security features. Numerous activities for residents are also available throughout each week. However, the care given by staff members varies greatly in quality. Some employees are very conscientious and remember to check in on my grandmother often. Other workers sometimes fail to provide her with her special drinks, transport her to the dining room for meals, or make sure that the telephone is placed within easy reach of her chair. We once visited the facility to find that my grandmother had been left alone in the dining room long after the end of a meal instead of being taken back to her room.
