I am a friend or relative of resident
I am friends with 2 of the residents at Grandma's place on 4100 Thomas Ave N, Minneapolis, MN. I am not impressed. The grounds are not taken care of and the building needs repairs. The lawn is not kept up at all, with lots of weeds and overgrown landscaping. The inside of the building is not kept very clean. The apartments are small, with good floor plan. Repairs are not handled in a timely manner.. This is an older building in disrepair. Most of the staff are very nice and helpful. There are a couple staff that are quite rude to the residents and guests.. I do not recommend.

The staff seemed polite and knowledgeable. The building itself seemed a little run down also in a "not so desirable" neighborhood. Seemed like there may have been a high volume of crime in that area. Though neither the residents nor the staff seemed to have an issue. Everything was kept clean and tidy though the building itself seemed ill lit and could use higher wattage bulbs in the hallways and rooms. In terms of amenities, there were none that I could see. But that is to be expected, no library or pool. But as said, I wouldn't have expected either in the first place. All in all, the staff seemed well trained and caring, the residents seemed happy but the building itself was a bit sub par. The rooms themselves were actually quite small, maybe 400 square feet or thereabouts. This one building was occupied by I believe 12 residents, so it was a fairly small building.

While looking at a place for my friend to live in Minneapolis, we decided to check out Grandma's Place "“ because of the cute name. We really liked the convenient location "“ since my friend is very active in the community. He's considering living further out, but this location is really ideal for him. The grounds were quite nice "“ well tended and ample. Plenty of space to stretch out and enjoy the outdoors, which is important to my friend "“ who used to play tennis semi-professionally. The facility incorporates physical exercise with many of its social activities. The dining areas look home-like and inviting. The food all looked delicious and the snacks we tried were tasty. The snacks are offered throughout the day which residents are encouraged to enjoy. The residents regularly participate in community and local events, many of which include library discussions, museum and art galleries, and other activities. The housing offered included spacious studios and apartment sized spaces with homey decors and convenient floor plans. The units were well-thought out as to the needs of a senior in about any capacity, from semi-ambulatory to more active, with full kitchenettes and easy to maneuver in bathrooms. The staff is kind to all residents and able to attend to any physical or mental situation. They also adapt their level of care according to the needs of the residents. All in all, we thought that Grandma's Place evokes both fond memories of grandparents, while suggesting a nice environment in which grandma herself may live in her later years.
